Huh? No winter cover for cold climate?!!?

So this idea went over like a lead balloon with husband. He reminded me of all the sludge we take of the cover in May. I could not dispute that (we're rural, lots of dust as well as the pines to the west, the hickories and poplar to the south and east not to mention the forsythia and other...

Huh? No winter cover for cold climate?!!?

I came to the forum to ask about water that seeps through the winter cover which becomes a PIA to drain in spring - usually taking a third of the pool volume with it which results in needing to add high TA well water and me fighting pH for half the summer. First thread I saw was NO cover over...

PoolBoy Johnny lost a match with pine trees

We had a wicked, but brief, storm blow through yesterday leaving a bunch of vegetation in the pool. I didn't realize the bulk of it was pine debris, only saw the leaves and branchlets. The good news is the Evo 614 IQ does fairly well with leaves. The bad news is Johnny ate a whole bunch of pine...

An inside joke - what i named our robot. Our roomba is James, so i can imperially announce "home, James."

    Unexpected consequence with new robot

Welp, i stopped using the pucks on June 10. PH gradually wafted up to 7.6/7.8. Didn't shoot up over 8 until the end of July when i started using Pool Boy. But I'm using that to my advantage - a fluff of acid at night, pH down to 7.4 ish on the morning, room PoolBoy, pH back up again. TA now down...

New EVO 614i Robot Pool Cleaner Review

I used to use something like this in the spring when junk from the cover would fall in (before we finally bought a cover pump and figured out how to get the cover of without dumping crud in the pool.) Hook it up to a garden hose and it starts a venturi. Just make sure the bag is tied on right...

Switching from Trichlor tabs to Liquid Chlorine

Buy several Walmart 81 oz jugs of 7.5% bleach - read the ingredients, straight sodium hypochlorite, nothing else. Figure out on pool math how much you usually need per day and she can put it in the stream of the return line. Easy. She really should know how to manage the pool as well as you...

    Unexpected consequence with new robot

I'm laughing - our whole pool season is maybe 3 months! And after a very brief heat wave tonight's temps are down in the 50s with next week's highs only low 70s. So this is the beginning of the end for us. Pool always gets too cold by the 2nd week of August for any but the most determined...

    Unexpected consequence with new robot

Thanks. Yeah - tested my house water last night. TA is 300. Usually fill water is not a big deal as we are in western NY and usually get lots of rain in summer. We were supposed to have our new liner installed later summer 2021 but we had such a wet summer that the installer was way behind. Then...

    Unexpected consequence with new robot

We're lowering the pH slowly each dose of acid is half the previous dose and then we wait half a day. I'm down to 7.5 and I'll probably wait a day between additions to allow pool to fully mix - long time ago I calculated that it took almost 24 hours to completely filter the whole pool with EC 60...

    Unexpected consequence with new robot

I was planning on using the protocol for lowering TA in hopes of getting more stable pH in the mid 7.4-7.6 range. Is this not the way? https://www.troublefreepool.com/blog/2019/01/18/lower-total-alkalinity/

New EVO 614i Robot Pool Cleaner Review

I've used my 614iq 4 times now. I'm surprised, once I got the app connected to our WiFi, how good the machine holds onto signal - we have abysmally poor internet here, using a cell phone device in house. I was not expecting to be able to use the app without major hoops but have been successful...

    Unexpected consequence with new robot

I received the Evo614iq from Marina pools last Monday, started using it Wednesday (thunderstorms the first two days, didn't want to fry it first time out🙄.) Our pool has well water fill giving us a TA of 180 initially, now down to 140. For the first 3 weeks, i use TRICHLOR tabs to add CYA than...

Why does my pool seem to need additional chlorine?

Optimal FC level is a function of your CYA level. This app will give you the info you need https://www.troublefreepool.com/blog/poolmath/

Why does my pool seem to need additional chlorine?

You're in New Jersey? If you are getting lots of rain like we are, that will dilute your CYA. And, my experience is, rain brings in algae spores, airborne dust and pollens.

    Looking at robotic cleaners

I did email. She got back to me this morning, evo614iq ordered. She sold me when she said it had a lift function that her 85 yr old mother can use. Wi-Fi connection might be a problem, none out there, hoping i can use my phone as a hot spot there. There's 2 places around the pool where i can...

    Looking at robotic cleaners

Thanks. Hoping it takes care of my back problem - i have lumbar stenosis and arching my lower back puts pressure on the spinal nerves in that area. The vacuum pole is long, I'm short, my pump has great suction despite being from the early 1990s and i end up wrestling that pole with my back doing...

    Looking at robotic cleaners

Contacted Marina pool and spa, initially with thoughts of explorer e30 or Nautilus cc but after reading your review, the 604 as i didn't plan to leave the robot in the pool. But than Margaret suggested the 614i as it has a lift function that even yet 85 years old mother can use by herself. Sold...

    Looking at robotic cleaners

Yep, read your review. Likely going with the EVO. But probably skip the wifi version, i won't be scheduling it, will be removing it to shed after ever cleaning. No way husband would tolerate seeing a robot in the pool continuously. I have my trusty little red wagon for transport. How long is...

How and why did you find TFP?

Way, way, way back, I was searching for how to manage persistent algae. And the guys name was Ben on a different pool forum. After a while, Ben dissipated and TFT sort of arose somehow from there. I continued. I check on now and then when I have a situation I've not faced before but I've been...

    Rather pleasant conundrum

Just got the pump/filter going. Cover came off last 5 days ago. Normally I have it going immediately but the pool looked good, the weather wasn't and life kept getting in the way. Possibly vacuuming tomorrow morning but thunderstorms forecast. Have an aversion to long aluminum pole in water...

    Rather pleasant conundrum

I thought I did on the second sample but I may have been impatient. I'll bring one in tonight and let it sit for an hour or two. House temp is currently 75⁰. Will go down as it gets dark. So maybe on top of the fridge.

    Rather pleasant conundrum

I have a huge pail of TRICHLOR tabs. I find that 1-2 weeks running pump with chlorinator gets the CYA up where i want it. And I don't have to go to the hassle of dissolving CYA etc. I just don't understand why my chlorine levels have stayed so optimal for almost a week with almost minimal loss...
