    Replacing a Polaris Booster Pump

I had to replace mine last year. The original from Polaris had a housing around the shaft area where the motor connected. there was an open area on the sides. The pump seal started leaking and filled up this area. Some of the water found its way into the motor. I drilled a drain hole in the...

    Need recomendation for a Timer

Intermatic timers suitable for pools are often sold in the box stores (HD and Lowes) as hot water heater timers. The only thing relevant is the voltage and amp ratings. If you have a 220V pump, your timer needs to be 220V and an Amp rating that matches or exceeds your pump. Many pool stores sell...

Overnight FC Not Holding and Other Questions

I have both Ben's 234 kit and a Taylor K2006 kit. Ben's scoop is definitely larger than the scoop Taylor supplies. I believe this may explain the difference in instructions.

A not so new idea for Black Algae

I got this idea from a post on the poolforum and a product google found. I saw a post about rubbing black algae spots 3" trichlor pucks. I also saw a product for attaching one to the end of your pool pole. The product was about $28 plus shipping. I went to the hardware store and bought $3.18...

    SWG and Bleach

I have been shocking the pool with bleach to deal with an Algae problem. When I do this it seems the the SWG shows a higher salt reading. Is this normal, or does it indicate a problem? I never noticed this before, but maybe thats me.

    Sand Filter how to check?

I have a Hayward PRO Series 244T sand filter. I am starting to see a small amount of sand near the returns. I had a filter with broken laterals when the pool was first installed, and this not near that amount of sand. This filter is on its 3rd season. How can I check the filter to see if and...

    pool pole

I have the blue fluted one like you describe. The plastic collet that you tighten to lock the position has cracked at the end and now spreads as you tighten it. It will soon fail and no longer work. Mine is 2 8' sections. I can use one section in the shallow end, but will have to have a new one...

    pool pole

I have one of those standard pool poles that the builder supplied when my pool was installed about 3 years ago. Its failing. The plastic screw collet that holds the pole extended has cracked and is fast approaching the point where the pole will no longer lock in the extended position. I am going...

    cleaning SWG cell

I have a Goldline unit. It is connected into the piping with a pair of threaded collars, one on each end of the cell. You are supposed to imerse the cell in mild acid solution up to, bot not over the wires. Has anyone found a "trick" to do this easily. A container that fits well? I wonder why...

Just as well. I am sure if my wife saw me putting something labeled "roach poison" in the pool she would go nuts.

    Borates, boric acid

Reading the sticky, I see that you should add borax and acid to bring the PH back inline. Reading another thread, I saw where one of the commercial products now includes boric acid so that the product is PH neutral. I have some boric acid that is sold here as a roach killer. The package says 99%...
