Suction side vacuum to drain pool

Thank you for your input neighbor. I am an totally newbie and got scared about draining the pool completely from some of the posts here. I can order the pump and have the pool drained and refilled quickly (have one of those sprinkler valves which add fresh water quickly) but just have been...

Suction side vacuum to drain pool

Can I use my suction side vacuum to drain my pool. I have a cartridge filter and I can connect a hose to the pressure relief valve to a sewage drain in the backyard. Has anyone tried this? Can I do it to replace 20% of water every day for a few days in order to lower my CYA?

Just reporting that the outside outlets pictured in the post above are indeed GFCI protected. The TEST button was in the breaker box and I was able to successfully determine that I can use those outlets for the sump pump to drain the water. Now, I need to research if there are any other...

Kitchen is 40 ft away. Bathroom one is much closer.

That's a great idea. The outlets are inverted because there is a switch right of it. I'm going to test them out with switch and then TEST the bathroom GFCi and check them again. Will report back in the morning.

Yes, I did add the initial 5 drops. If I didn't my CH will be even more.

The panel above the outlets is the breaker box for the pump. I am going to be doing a remodel soon and will switch all outside outlets to GFCI compliant outlets.

Attached is the picture of what is in the housing. But, I have a door 5-6ft to the right of that outlet for downstairs bathroom and it has a GFCI outlet with TEST/RESET buttons so worse come worse I can run a 12 gauge extension cord from it to the pump. GFCI is not an issue anymore.

I did open the outlet and checked that there are no TEST/RESET buttons.

The outlet is within the housing which is circled in the picture. It does not have the TEST/RESET buttons.

I did the 10ml when I reported CH to be 400. Also, I didn't add R-0012 prior to R-0010 and R-0011. I just did the 25ml test, and I believe CH is around 300. Here are the pictures from 25 drop, 28 drops and 30 drops total after adding 5 drops of R-0012 to start off the test.

I don't have the speed str. I will go ahead and measure tap water again making sure I keep the the bottle vertical and let the drop form instead of squeezing it out. Be back after the test.

I'm already looking into buying a submersible pump. Will be doing the drain when temps cool down to consistently below 80. Was nor researching if I have a GFCI outlet for the submersible pump. I do have outlet installed close to the pool pump and filter but have no way of knowing if it's GFCI...

Thank you for your input. I will certainly lower the CYA to acceptable levels soon. I do not intend to use the pool until that time and just want to prevent the algae from spreading. Will I be able to use any type of algaecide until that point in time? I do intend to switch over to TFP...

Thank you for your input. I have never had algae in past 6 years and this started a month after I started taking care of the pool myself. It seems like the pool service person was controlling it somehow while using just 2 chlorine tabs a week. Maybe I'm not brushing the walls enough? Again...

Here is update from today. Last night FC was 2ppm and I added 2 gallons of 10% LC. This morning FC level is 20.5ppm. I have brushed away the algae stains rather easily this morning. Since the water was crystal clear other than few algae discoloring, and from the advise above, I am concluding...

The pool man has been using tabs forever I think. I moved in 6 years ago and he always used to puts 2 of them every week and we never had a hint of green. I have continued to do that since couple of months ago when I decided to start taking care of the pool myself. I will switch over to LC as...

That's a little comforting to hear that it could be regular algae. The spots are probably 2% in area compared to the rest of the pool. I will slam it to a high level. I wish I had run into TFP before Leslies. I have a huge stock of tabs which I will use until I'm ready to drain the pool...
