    Pool Opening

Yup. I’ll just slam the ever loving Darn out of it once I have some semblance of CYA. I’m familiar with the process as I did it last year as well. Thanks again for the clamp recommendations!

    Pool Opening

agreed entirely! sadly, i dont have the right set of clamps to take out the bypass and reinstall the salt water cell (i tried). i brushed the entire pool and ran the robot for about 4 hours. then put in 2 gallons of 7.5% bleach and CYA granules to get it up to around 70. will keep it running...

    Pool Opening

Just uncovered the pool. It's going to be 88F here today and pool is at 62F. Noticed a good growth of green algae starting. Pool guys are coming to get it started next week but I was curious if it made sense to throw a gallon or two of bleach in now while i brush the algae etc to prevent...

    SLAM done, what's next?

thanks my man! pH i am not concerned about and i have also learned to keep liquid chlorine in the laundry room just in case after this episode! I have granuale CYA so I will test that today to get it up to about 70 based on where it is now.

    SLAM done, what's next?

So I was having issues with FCL dropping randomly which indiciated I probably needed to do a SLAM despite the water not being very cloudy. Imagine my total lack of surprise when I failed the OCLT multiple times which indeed confirmed my suspicions. It took about 8 days and a lot of bleach...

    Time to SLAM?

Thanks, and it'll be safe to swim this Friday afternoon even with FC levels up, correct?

    Time to SLAM?

Good morning, gods of pool chemistry! I've been testing my water regularly and it's been a pretty great summer so far with lots of friends coming over to enjoy the pool. My latest test was yesterday morning and these were my results: pH: 7.4 FC: 2.5 TC: 2.5 TA: 60 CYA: 50 CH: 140 The FC was...

    Sanity Check?

Alright, so my water was looking great pre-Memorial day weekend. I tested on 5/23/24 and these were my results: pH: 7.3 FC: 6.0 TC: 6.0 TA: 60 CYA: 60 CH: 140 I was having a group of 15 people over this weekend so I went ahead and added about 36oz. or 7.5% chlorine bleach to get the pH up to...

    Sanity Check?

thanks for all the comments. i am using a FAS-DPD test. i typically try to keep the CYA around 80/90 during the summer. salt cell via the app is saying instant salt is around 2800 now at 38%. it typically stays around 3200 and 32%. and yes, i know the hayward app is not truly an accurate...

    Sanity Check?

absolutely. i got the CYA in to raise it up to 70/80. going to let that do its magic over the next 24-48 then check chemistry again before adding anyting else. appreciate the help!

    Sanity Check?

    Sanity Check?

Also, I have people coming over this weekend and all next week who will be using the pool. I'm aware adding the CYA will lower my pH probably to at least 7.0. Based on my TA, what should i add to bring it back up to 7.3-7.4?

    Sanity Check?

Just tested my water again today. It's 72F out and the pool is 74F. These are the results: pH 7.3 FC 7.0 TC 7.0 TA 40 CH 140 CYA 50 First thought is I'm going to raise my CYA to 90 using the old pantyhose and granules method by the jet. I probably need to grab a bag of salt as well to keep...

    1 Week after Opening

Hey everyone! checking in 1 week after opening the pool and taking some initial stabs at getting the chemistry going for the season. It's been circulating on a regular program for a week and I have yet to clean the filters thanks to the continued oak tree pollen. Here are my readings currently...

Test Results - Party on Saturday

I just ran to Leslie's and apparently everyone is out of reagent. The Chlorine was 7.5 a month ago but I added some salt and never lowered my SWCG. I'd assume we're good in my opinion.

Test Results - Party on Saturday

Hey everyone! I've been doing this pool chemistry thing on my own this summer and have my 4 year old son's birthday party this weekend. Pool looks great and we've been swimming in it all summer. I just took some readings this morning at 10AM using my my K-2005 test kit (excluding FC/TC/CC which...

    CYA lowering pH?

ive been running the pump on medium since i did it for the past 2+ hours. all i have is two main returns from the pump. i did go around with the pole and broom and aerate and also used myself a splash test dummy for 10 mins. i didn't bother me at all tbh, we plan on showering right after and...

    CYA lowering pH?

I took readings of everything using my K-2005 test kit (excluding FC/TC/CC which i used the FAS/DPD test) yesterday at 1030AM and this is what I had: pH: 7.5 FC: 7.5 TC: 7.5 CC: 0.0 TA: 80 CH: 210 CYA: 30 Salt: 3171 (using SWCG reading) Per the math, I added about 4.5 lbs of CYA moment ago via...

Alright, here's the update. I took readings of everything using my K-2005 test kit (excluding FC/TC/CC which i used the FAS/DPD test) yesterday at 1030AM and this is what I had: pH: 7.5 FC: 7.5 TC: 7.5 CC: 0.0 TA: 80 CH: 210 CYA: 30 Salt: 3171 (using SWCG reading) So far so good. I then did...

thanks for the feedback. that's also why i came to this sight, for the knowledge and support. i just added some more LC to get my FC levels to about 6.5-7 based on my current CYA reading of around 40. the test kit was ordered tuesday so it probably wont be here until monday or so. i have...

Tired of Leslie's. Ready to do this on my own.

I'm going to add my CYA today and get it up to a higher level of around 70+. I am not opposed to adding more chlorine either. I'll check the chart to see where I need to land. As far as the salt number, I get that right from my SWCG through the Hayward OmniLogic app. It's the reading for...

Tired of Leslie's. Ready to do this on my own.

Alright. So I took some more readings today using my own test kit and this is what I got: Free Chlorine: ~4-4.5 *Total Chlorine: ~4-4.5 *Combined Chlorine: ??? pH: 7.6 Total Alkilinity: 95 Calcium Hardness: 225 **CYA: 35 Salt: 3196 Notes: * to be honest, this step makes no sense to me as i...
