    Apera pH reading counts up

So to counter the temperature decrease do you rely solely on the the pH increase to keep CSI happy? Do you adjust TA at all in winter? I think I remember you saying you don’t add TA increaser at all ( yet your TA is at 80). ?

    Apera pH reading counts up

Have you noticed any difference in readings in where you retrieve your sample? My first sample was at surface level and the second was at arm's length in the water. The second seemed to be where I was expecting the value to be. Does this make sense?

    Learnings from a TFP follower

It is mind boggling how the ones that work in the industry are the ones that seem to be most misguided. I'm still undecided on this. Is it a deliberate ploy to sell more chemicals or is it genuine ignorance as to how pool chemistry works? If there was only one fact that the pool shops should...

    pH chart compensation for CYA

OK, Thanks for that. So would a change in the TDS have much of an effect? Where I'm going with this is I'm thinking my pH issue from the other thread is to do with me over reading the pH. According to that chart a TA of 53 and a pH of 8.0 has a perfect CO2 equilibrium. I tested my water tonight...

    pH chart compensation for CYA

The chart at the bottom of the pH TA relationship wiki is based of a CYA of 30 ppm. https://www.troublefreepool.com/wiki/index.php?title=PH_TA_Relationship How much different would this chart be with a higher CYA? in particular, 65 ppm.

    Unexplained pH rise

So when you say that you add acid less frequently in winter, is this because the pH rises slower in winter or is it because you don't mind the pH being slightly higher in winter? Is it that you want the pH higher to counter the CSI change due to water temp?

    Unexplained pH rise

So do you regularly test for TA? I read in another of your posts somewhere you don't add any TA increaser? What is your fill water TA?

    Unexplained pH rise

That was me adding Calcium. There are so many conflicting views and opinions on pool care. I read somewhere that keeping the CSI from being too far negative is prudent in a FG pool. I at least like to keep the CSI above the -0.6. In winter with the low water temp and the low TA, CH is a way to...

    Unexplained pH rise

So you wouldn’t see a problem if my pool sat at say, 8.0? I didn’t think it would be possible to reach a point where I no longer need to add anything to keep TA stable? Given my fill water TA is 30 ppm wouldn’t it gradually decrease? To be honest, and I say this respectfully, the TA minimum of...

    Unexplained pH rise

I just added 500 gm before, my TA was at 45ppm. It’s difficult for me to give you an accurate quantity over a long time period. It might be 1 kg every six weeks. I know I should be more diligent in recording amounts Do you think the distance the SWG is from the return could be a factor?

    Unexplained pH rise

My fill water has a TA of 30 ppm and a CH of 80 ppm. No, the CH of the pool doesn't increase over time. I do add TA increaser/Baking soda on occasion. I add it when it dips down below 50, I try to keep my pool TA at about 50. The SWG would be about 15m from the return jet. My LSI is normally...

    Unexplained pH rise

My gut feeling is this is the issue. I've rigged up a system when I can get an exact quantity, I'm gonna see how this plays out. So my range has been between 7.7-8.0. You don't see an issue taking that range up to 7.8-8.2 ? As a permanent change? I'm sure I would use less acid, I just thought...

Thanks, before I get everyone onto an investigation I might become a little more specific in adding the acid. I have a pH probe in line that used to control an acid pump. The pump failed so now I'm just manually adding it. When I see the pH has risen to 8 I get a bucket of pool water and...
