Plumbing improvements during VSP upgrade - looking for advice

Another question if you are able to help - when cementing the diverter valves in place, any concerns with PVC cement going into the valve area? Do people usually remove the guts of the valve during gluing? I highly doubt they did when plumbing my setup. Just wondered what was common practice...

Plumbing improvements during VSP upgrade - looking for advice

Thank you for the replies and help. Also, I was editing my post while you were replying: Regarding that item, could it be a water bond instead of an anode? And if so, I assume I want to keep that in place?

Plumbing improvements during VSP upgrade - looking for advice

Thanks so much for the input! You gave me confidence in my plan. I guess that is an anode and I never researched them until now. I read that it is traditionally placed between the filter and the heater, not sure how critical that is - mine is obviously before the filter. If I remove it, that...

Plumbing improvements during VSP upgrade - looking for advice

I am looking to upgrade my 1hp single speed. I am thinking of jumping to the Calimar 3HP, which could be overkill but I have a lot of pipe length and elevation change so better be safe than sorry. Given the price, its a no-brainer. Yes, this pump might be Crud but I am ok taking the chance on...

Calimar 3HP VS Pump port size question

I have been looking into this pump as well and found this thread. FWIW this was the response I received from Pool Supply Unlimited: "It is in transit and orders should be getting shipped out in the next 10days". I am on the fence about buying a cheap pump, but given how significant the...

Water level in FG pool + vacation question

Just got back from my trip. Water is clear and the level was at the top of the skimmer from rain but not horribly high. I am pumping down to a reasonable level now and running my robot. Quick check shows chlorine is super high, 10 ppm. pH is high, but one drop of acid demand brings the...

Water level in FG pool + vacation question

I don't have anyone, and I am the only one I know with a pool.... but I have a buddy who is smart enough I could trust him to stop over and take a quick peek. Things like cleaning the basket, checking the water level would be simple enough. chlorine just is what it is, nobody could help me...

Water level in FG pool + vacation question

I have no overflow method, presumably it would rise above the FG tub and onto the edge of the concrete. Which seems bad. With crazy storms you could get inches of rain at a time, or without them, evaporate. For now I will just pump it down such that we could afford another crazy storm... but...

Water level in FG pool + vacation question

I will start by saying I did some searches on vacation prep, I know its a well covered topic. We just got a lot of rain and the water level is just a couple of inches from the bottom of the 4" concrete decking around the pool. Over the skimmer. Highest its been. Typically I would pump this...

New pool house build & flooring selection: salt water compatibility

This is a somewhat obscure question. We built a poolhouse on a concrete slab with a vapor barrier underneath. Ohio weather with temperature fluctuations, and its an unconditioned space. We are exploring a waterproof vinyl click-lock tile (the solid core with less expansion/contraction due to...

First spring. High water table. When to pump?

Yes we have a 12" pipe out near the deep end, and yes finished off with a skimmer lid. The opening is barely large enough for a pump, but it fits. Since I have a high water table I always have spare sump pumps around. Before they poured the concrete I actually ran conduit and 1-1/2" PVC...

First spring. High water table. When to pump?

Thanks for this. They backfilled with small gravel all around and "massaged" it in as they went. They backfilled at the same rate they were filling with water so the two levels went up together. I believe I have a main drain? There are two suction ports near the bottom of the sidewall in the...

First spring. High water table. When to pump?

Appreciate your response. To be clear, I am not draining. I am basically asking under what circumstances do you need to pump around the pool. In other words, should I be concerned at all if my water table is 3' from the water level in the pool? 2', 1' ? At what point should people care...

First spring. High water table. When to pump?

Hello all, this is my first spring as a pool owner. We have a high water table every spring, my two sumps in the basement run non stop for around 3 months, then they are dry the remainder of the year. We have 100% sandy soil conditions for what its worth. Right now the water table is about...

Struggle to lower pH after salt water conversion

As an update, I left the cover off most of today. I tested pH just now and its 7.6 on the Taylor color scale. Not sure if it just took time for everything to kick in, or having the cover off for a period of time helped. All my levels are perfect now !!! I definitely learned a BUNCH with this...

Struggle to lower pH after salt water conversion

Ok thanks. Yup, definitely don't have those. Only knobs I have turn the waterfall on/off and the neck water in the captains chair on/off. No knobs which control anything with the jets.

Struggle to lower pH after salt water conversion

    1) pretty sure I don't have air controls ? Its a Bullfrog spa. Had to google that. 2) honestly, and this is sad, I can't remember the last time I was in it. Now that cold weather is here, we intend to use it more... which motivated me to convert to SWG 3) no - I will google and begin to...

Struggle to lower pH after salt water conversion

https://www.troublefreepool.com/calc.html Also used previous test results and recommendations from my local hot tub supplier / pool shop. They do testing and print out a report of what to add. Generally the TroubleFree Calc linked above seemed aligned with corrections I had made in the past...

Struggle to lower pH after salt water conversion

Hopefully the attachments work. One picture I am holding up to the window / overcast sky so its backlit naturally (5785). One is with a white cabinet as the background (5786) Sky background for sure looks 8.0. Indoors I could argue its maybe closer to 7.8. Notably nothing like 7.6 IMO Up to...

Yes I will tomorrow, I assume I can attach on here.... I will attempt. FC is steady at 4.0 each day once I dialed in the generator.

Struggle to lower pH after salt water conversion

thanks. as an update, my TA is now 50, but pH still looks 7.8-8.0 to me. "hot pink" is how I would describe the color via the Taylor kit. I will wait it out a bit and keep an eye on it. At this point I have put quite a bit of dry acid into the tub, and the TA has gone down for sure.

Struggle to lower pH after salt water conversion

Again, I can't thank you enough for the insight. So, after adding 1.9oz (weight) of pH reducer yesterday, my TA is now 60, and pH is less pink... but certainly not orange like you start to see at 7.6. If I could guess I am around 7.8 or slightly lower. Given your last advice, I have a better...

Struggle to lower pH after salt water conversion

Ok I have slowly dropped TA to 70ppm (just rechecked it after trying to lower pH the past few days), pH still bright pink on mt Taylor kit. So tonight I will "shock" it down, I will use the calculator to jump from 8 to 7.0 pH. Edit: the calc is saying 1.9oz by weight or 1.2oz by volume of dry...

Struggle to lower pH after salt water conversion

Thank you for this. the place I bought my spa from always recommended a higher range on their test reports (I test on my own now), and I have always been using that as a target. So, with new water I always add alkalinity increaser / baking soda... and I probably should not be doing that. I...

Struggle to lower pH after salt water conversion

Hello, I have a 450G hot tub, ~4 years old. Once I got my new IG pool with SWG, I loved it so much I decided to convert my hot tub with the Saltron Mini. It was worth the $300 to me to give it a shot. After I replaced the water recently, I got the salinity to 2400 per the recommendation from...

First closing - did they do it right ? Concerned.

Hi all. Pool installed this year, first closing. Latham fiberglass 16x40. 1 skimmer, 2 main drains, 4 returns, 1 cascade waterfall. Tanning ledge, typically 12" water depth. 2 returns are at the back of tanning ledge, 2 bubblers on the tanning ledge. Closing crew did this: pump water...

New IG pool install - startup / balancing question

I appreciate this. Full test kit should hopefully be here Friday, and the reason I have been cautious with adding too much CYA. The pool math calculator suggested 8 pounds (to get to 60), and I put in 4 pounds, so I should be safe. Nobody put anything else in the pool, so I am good there as...
