Yellow Flakes on the bottom of hot tub

yes, our well water is hard, but no minerals including iron. I don't log very often into Trouble Free, but knowing it could have helped, I will start. Muriatic acid had no effect. These particles are extremly fragile, Not slimy (moldy) so I don't think it's bits of plastic tubing, nor is it...

Yellow Flakes on the bottom of hot tub

I am getting these yellow flakes on the bottom of my hot tub. I changed the water before it got too cold (November) and will change again today, but they keep showing up! I use 1/2 household softend water and 1/2 well water (no minerals) to fill. I use acid and bleach only.

Need to shock, but ALK is still raising PH- should I wait?

yes, thanks. I did read the SLAM article, but it was not clear if the PH should be stable. I will SLAM asap at 7.2 PH. MSP, MPS or PMS? so many acronyms! Yes, it is postassium monopersulfate. I wont be using it. Thanks, once again. PS. I often try to send MS folks over here to get...

Need to shock, but ALK is still raising PH- should I wait?

My CYA was 60; I replaced 1/3 of the water to get it to 40. My PH climbs to 8.0 and ALK is 175 and I've been using muriatic acid to lower it. My FC is 2ppm and CC is .4ppm. 2,000 gallon pool. To shock the pool, using bleach, I need to raise the FC to 16 (per chart), but should I wait until I...

Using sodium hypochlorite in Master Spa swim spa vs Dichlor

Yes, my warranty reads exactly the same way. I agree, they are constantly selling product in an advice giving way. I will continue along the path I am on and re-read the pool school information on a more regular basis, as I always pick up another golden nugget. I came here before I got my...

Using sodium hypochlorite in Master Spa swim spa vs Dichlor

Thanks for your prompt response. MS "experts" have conflicting recommendations. One theory is Dichlor daily and potassium peroxymonosulfate weekly. Others are doing the EXACT opposite and calling both ingredients "shock" interchangeably. It is always good to re-read the Pool School...

Using sodium hypochlorite in Master Spa swim spa vs Dichlor

I have been using Dichlor daily in my 1,895 gallon swim spa. My CYA is at 50. Due to this, I wanted to switch to sodium hypochlorite and the forum (run by sales people) had a fit and said it would void my 10 year warranty. The warranty will be voided with CALCIUM hypochlorite. The confusion...

    Sky high ALK

My source water has an alkalinity level of 300 ppm. The pH is 7.6 ppm. CH is 200. The calculator recommends muriatic acid to lower PH. 1985 gallon swim spa- not yet filled. Should I worry about the high ALK or just work on my PH? Thanks
