New Pool Build - Early Planning Stages

Main drains are not necessary, and are only one more thing that can fail and cause problems. If you need to drain the pool, use a submersible pump. No need to have potentially 100' of buried, inaccessible pipes. I put 3 lights in my pool, and have turned them on maybe 3 times. Once again, it...

Looking for recommendation on shocking my saltwater pool

When I test cya, I do not use the cap that came with the bottle. I have found that squirting the reagent in to the test tube causes bubbles and is distracting. I pout it from the test tube into the cylinder, glancing at the dot. When I think I have a reading, I pour it right back into the...

Be careful with Clorox Pool salt.

Yes. I always dilute salt or calcium in a bucket, and let it rest before I put it in the pool. If it does not look right in the bucket, dont put it in the pool.

    Rails

I have that exact handrail. Ours is installed on the pool deck. We put our pool in during covid, it was all that was available. It came with those exact mounting bolts. And yellow plastic anchors. I hope that is not what they used to install it, but it probably is. I took ours to a...

    Concrete pad sinking/sunk

You should consider flowable fill. You could probably mix up your own on site. The advantage is if you have to do it again, you can. https://nesmea.engr.uconn.edu/wp-content/uploads/sites/2933/2020/01/nesmea05_kuell-meyera.pdf

Concrete or fiberglass pool in Katy, Tx

Regarding plaster vs. fiberglass, I have a 2 year old fiberglass pool. I'm not really happy with it. Its out of level, even though the installers with their fancy laser level said it wasnt. It is. The tracks for the auto cover (strongly suggested) really magnify it. And I would have been...

Concrete or fiberglass pool in Katy, Tx

Don't get hung up on the word "salt". You will be using a "salt water chlorine generator". Focus on the word "chlorine". The salt water chlorine generator (swcg) simply introduces the chlorine into the pool. The chlorine is what sanitizes the water. The other TFP approved means of sanitizing...

    Muriatic Acid Question!!!! *pic*

Just be careful with the acid and you will be fine. Safety glasses are a must. No respirator required, just hold your breath and turn your head the other way if you get a whiff. No need for accurate measurements. Get an empty gallon jug, and do some practice runs with water. Pour the water...

Need to reduce chlorine generation below level possible with SJ-35 controls

Water is lazy and will take the path of least resistance. Period. It will not partially flow through a swcg and a bypass. It will be one or the other.

Please help! Pool lost a foot of water

You are going to need a pump that can pump the water off of the cover faster than it can accumulate. They are out there, but they are pricey. Might be worth checking with the pool builder

    Anybody use a Nest thermostat?

Nest thermostats are marginal at best with forced hot air, lousy with hydronic heat, and simply do not work with steam. We will not service an hvac system with a nest thermostat .

    Pool company’s closing method

I leave the risers installed as well. Its either that, or lower the water below the returns, not good with a fiberglass pool. But I wonder with the concrete collar, and the weight of the concrete deck, if it would hurt to lower the water to blow out and plug the returns. Or some kind of box...
