Can I use trichlor floater while pump is out of service?

Thanks! I kinda figured as long as I can mix it up real well in the pool it would be OK I forgot to add water is crystal clear.

Can I use trichlor floater while pump is out of service?

Waiting on electrician to fix pool pump GFCI breaker so pump has been without power for days. They won't be here for 3-4 more days. I have trichlor pucks and a floating dispenser. Can I use that to keep some chlorine in the pool? Wife wants to swim, but I'm saying it's not sanitary. It's a...

    Water boatmen, wife got stung/bit

Thanks, I assumed it was the predatory ones that have the nasty bite. There has been a steady supply of nats/tiny bugs in the water. But again the water is crystal clear. Whatever bit her was not readily visible, tiny things that carry an air bubble with them. 2-3 millimeters at the most.

    Water boatmen, wife got stung/bit

Sorry to be blunt, but she got bit on her lady parts. I flushed heavily with vinegar. She has a very high pain tolerance and it about brought her to her knees. Said it felt like a wasp sting. What I don't understand is I just went through SLAM and yet these tiny guys are still in the water...

Replaced filter sand and new VS pump, now have to backwash weekly

That's a great idea. Water is crystal clear, test results good but I may be on the verge of fighting something as the water is really starting to warm up to upper 70s. Hit 81 today. Best to nip it in the bud.

Replaced filter sand and new VS pump, now have to backwash weekly

But of course. Tis the TFP way. It's early in the season and we're not using it as much as normal. I told folks to stir the water around! On reflection I've got way more pollen, a new pump, new sand and I don't have a baseline of filter pressure. But filter is doing it's job.

Replaced filter sand and new VS pump, now have to backwash weekly

Yeah, I'm thinking it's just added load on filter via pollen and likely better filtering. Test results. CYA 50 - yeah, I use pucks and know the danger of doing so. FC 6-7 CC 0 TA 120 pH 7.6

    GFCI tripping any ideas?

I'd hire an electrician to troubleshoot unless you want to replace breaker yourself as a troubleshooting step. I can do basic DIY eletrical stuff but not panel work. They replaced breaker with the panel hot!! They spent a good 2 hours troubleshooting. My new intelliflo VS pump basically...

Replaced filter sand and new VS pump, now have to backwash weekly

It's a hayward sand filter. I never had trouble with filtration but when having pool company redo plumbing and adding new VS pump I said go ahead and replace the sand since you have to remove it anyway to do the work. Sand was maybe 7 years old, pool repair guy that I trust said 5 years is...

    GFCI tripping any ideas?

I recently went through this. Only two conditions - you have an actual ground fault or the breaker is worn out. I experienced both as water was leaking into a pool light conduit, thankfully not from pool but rain. My breaker was 20 years old and would trip/not reset as I had reset it at least...

Pump breaker immediately trips even with pump switch off

Thanks for the help. I guess whatever water causing the ground fault dried up (my guess). Breaker is holding and pump running. We did have some bad storms yesterday but I’ve never had trouble with this circuit.

Pump breaker immediately trips even with pump switch off

Thanks, I wanted to know if I should frantically try to get a pump installed for a party this weekend or just wait and see if things dry out. Could the pump cause this? I guess only way to know for sure is unwire the pump. Which I figured I was doing with the switch.

Pump breaker immediately trips even with pump switch off

Never had the breaker trip before. A 220v/20a GFCI breaker in house panel goes to a junction box outside near pump with a switch in the box. This j-box is then hard wired to WhisperFlo 1hp pump. The key here is the junction box has a switch used to turn pump on or off, just like a light...

How to repair a large vinyl tear in corner?

Thanks all, I can easily get big pieces of liner and don't care how it looks so I'll just patch with cement.

How to repair a large vinyl tear in corner?

I have a 10" horizontal tear in the corner gaping maybe 1.5". The liner is old and this is the first sign of failure otherwise the integrity is good. Can I just use a patch of liner material and some cement that comes with a patch kit? My only concern is the thickness of the vinyl is very...

Pretty sure I have mustard algae - HELP

For reference and others..... FC - 16 (sunny day no additional Cl added) CC - 0 No more staining, sun has set for a while now. Water and pool are sparkly. SLAM successful but I think I ran into an iron/metal thing when I elevated FC

Pretty sure I have mustard algae - HELP

Thanks again Texas, I'm leaning metal now based on water tests just performed and what I tested today before sun up and looking at my log. I'm not losing any CL and no combined chlorine, been that way for 24 hours. You guys really pointed me in the right direction, thank you. It's that the...

Pretty sure I have mustard algae - HELP

Thanks Texas, I really appreciate the help as I thought I knew what I'm doing pretty well but this has me stumped. History of the pool is I've never had any metal staining problems or anything else that couldn't be solved with a shock/slam. In fact I've rarely had to SLAM the pool during the...

Pretty sure I have mustard algae - HELP

Thanks Texas. The chairs I'm talking about are plastic chairs that are built into the pool and covered by water. What has me puzzled is the water is clear and an hour or two after it gets dark these plastic chairs are covered in a deli mustard stain that I can't brush off. It all started when...

Pretty sure I have mustard algae - HELP

Been slamming for 3 days CYA 45-50 TA 130 (I use trichlor) pH - 7.3 FC - 22 CC - varies during the SLAM, 0 - 2.5 I've been maintaining FC 20. My CC has been as high as 3.0. During the day the water is crystal clear but there is mustard colored stuff on my vinyl liner, think dark brown...

Green Pool - High Phosphate Level

Yep. The pool has too much CYA. The only option is water replacement. The advice given here will make your pool troublefreepool. The most common cause of trouble is over stabilized. Too much cya. And once trouble starts with high cya it's difficult to impossible to combat. Pool stores tell...

The wonders of GE silicone #2 and leaks

I've been dealing with a leak at one of my returns for two years now; mostly kept it in check. It finally got so bad that I was losing 2.5" of water everyday this year after my niece picked apart my previous repair work. My local pool store is good, he's a builder. Kept telling me to go get...

    Balanced, now water feels "different"

It's probably the pH. You're a little out of the recommended range of 7.5-7.8. I can always tell when my pH is a little off when I open my eyes underwater, if it's 7.6-7.7 then no burning. At 8.2+ your water was more basic (as opposed to acidic) which may have "felt" better on your skin and...

Going on vacation for 3 weeks

The care taker could use the color matching OTO or DPD chlorine test just to make sure there is some adequate FC in the water, if not then double dose.

    Pole holes

I'm very happy my pool that came with the house I bought had an old school aluminum pole. No problem putting some force on that thing.

    Pole holes

The more I think about my redneck roots if you have a bicycle innertube slap that around the pole, hose clamp around that, drill, done and secure.
  29. S

    Pole holes

I'd take a hose clamp, screw it on and drill through that. A hose clamp as in a metal strip used to join water hose or secure flexible tubing to a rigid tube/pipe. It has a screw that engages slots in the metal strip around the pipe. For more security of the holes use some extra liner between...

    Unexpected low CYA

Sounds like a leak. Do a bucket test to be sure.
