    Pool cloudy after NO Fos

I am totally perplexed as to why it’s not dissolving. What is the substance if it isn’t the milky water coming from the filter when I spray it down or the white substance in the bottom of the pool. Can’t be a coincidence

    Pool cloudy after NO Fos

The pool conditioner is white and milky yogurt like substance. The water washout everytime I clean the filter is the exact same white milky substance. I believe the no phos is brown- no brown in the pool at all- I don’t think I ever purchased this or added it to the pool- got my chemicals mixed...

    Pool cloudy after NO Fos

Update on this, was not "No Fos" that caused this. IT was a product called "Leslie's - Instant Pool Water Conditioner Plus, 1 Gallon". I poured the entire contents of the bottle directly into the skimmer and the Crud wont's dissolve and has clogged my system as described above. Has anyone else...

    Pool cloudy after NO Fos

Good suggestion. Can I remove the filter while vacuuming to waste to avoid it getting caught on the way out?

    Sand Filter w/ Glass Media

To my pool service guy's credit he steered me to replacing the sand filter with a cartridge system which many on here have endorsed. If there is a true crack in my sand filter that is likely what I am going to do. I am going to investigate this so called crack tonight!

    Sand Filter w/ Glass Media

I am going to administer this test tonight and post the results! I am learning once step at a time- gotta filter the propoganda out of my system!

    Sand Filter w/ Glass Media

Yeah, I was just noticing how mine pales in comparison to other members and the more I learn about this it really needs to be filled out in better detail. I will go home tonight and make sure this gets updated.

    Sand Filter w/ Glass Media

I am currently using a taylor test kit (K2006). Poor filtration doesn't affect pool chemistry or cause cloudy water? PH & Alkalinity have been steady throughout so not sure how algae could be the issue unless I am missing something. Is there another test to determine if it is algae? Also, I have...

    Sand Filter w/ Glass Media

Interesting, that's good to know. Every swim university and online video source I have ever seen stated that the granulars are rounded off due to erosion and need to be replaced but if not that's another thing I don't have to pay for!

    Sand Filter w/ Glass Media

I am leaning this way but the investment is tough to swallow. If my fiberglass filter is leaking and needs to be replaced this would be the time to do it.

    Sand Filter w/ Glass Media

Yeah, I have monitored the chlorine on a daily basis but the chlorine is being eaten up to quickly which I believe is because the filter isn't doing it's job. I have had cloudy water with every testable chemical within range-frustrating!

    Sand Filter w/ Glass Media

Zero doubt its sand. If I remember correctly the manufacturer of the sand states it needs to be replaced every 3-5 years, are you stating that was a sales gimmick? May I ask what your basis is for not needing to change? Interesting, the cartridge filter represents a significant investment but I...

    Sand Filter w/ Glass Media

A, let's say questionable at best, pool service guy is stating my TR60 Pentair pool filter has a crack at the base causing a leak (filter is original at 15+ years old but has never leaked) but due to the age it very well could be true but aside from that I have been have recurring issues with a...

    High CYA everyear

Interesting, the water is currently crystal clear but it sounds like copper could still be present. Yes, I feel like joining this forum will change how we do everything and enhance our swimming experience. I really appreciate the education and insight.

Link to tablets we use: Member's Mark Chlorinating Tablets (40 lbs.) - Sam's Club Having a hard time finding exact ingredients, my coper reading was high and I have never known how metal is being introduced into the pool- maybe the tablets are the culprit. I believe everything you guys are...

    High CYA everyear

Yeah, as you put it that way may be I am making too big a deal of it. You use 2 cups for 24Kgal. I have 14K gallon so probably need 18 ounces and will need which means a 1 gallon bottle will last about 7 days. (20) weeks of summer x $4.63/bottle = $92 worth for 20 bottles. Might be the path of...

    High CYA everyear

When my father owned the house/managed the pool, the trees in the backyard were much shorter and provided essentially no shade = pool was hit by direct UV light daily. He bought shock & chlorinating tablets from Sam's Club, nothing more advanced then that. I am not sure what the ingredients were...

    High CYA everyear

This was a very helpful video. As I listed, my FC is at 14 PPM with a CYA of 169. The chart in the video shows CYA at 100 requiring 11-13ppm of FC so it's safe to say 160cya/14ppmFC that my FC is too low in relation to my CYA. Does this mean all I need to do is add non stabilized chlorine shock...

    High CYA everyear

I appreciate the reply. Is there really no solution outside of adding chlorine everyday? I read where somebody said if I ditch the tablets, a pool exposed to direct sunlight would need daily chemicals but with an automatic pool cover wouldn't that significantly reduce the dissipation of the...

    High CYA everyear

Hello all, I have owned a pool for 8 years in North Eastern, KS and with the help of my father (owned the home/pool previously) we have kept it going reasonably well. A recurring issue every year when we open the pool is CYA levels off the chart requiring the draining of water replenished with...
