    First time opening pool…and algae!

So with my experiment, I let the water settle and then brushed the water with my finger and the dirt I put in there pooped just like in the pool. It seems to me our issue is dirt and not algae Thanks for all the responses

    First time opening pool…and algae!

Just an update. The “poof substance” is still there. But I did retest my cya after letting it get to room temp and it was 40 vs the 70 I had been testing it. I never thought that would make a big difference. Any other tests that should be run at room temp? Also I cleaned my cylinders and now my...

    First time opening pool…and algae!

Not on the walls. I’ll try and get a good pic of it although it is hard to see until brushed. It was very widespread to start with. Every brush of every area of the pool would result in puffs. Now it is just on the elevated horizontal surfaces. I don’t notice any pollen on the surface of the water

    First time opening pool…and algae!

I’ll check around for Paul on another surfaces but I haven’t noticed any? But our allergies are going crazy. Also where we get a lot of build up is on a ledge that has a bubbler and a waterfall flowing onto it so if it is pollen I would think it would be pushed away by that.

If I just let my chlorine levels get down a little bit word if it was mustard algae, would it start blooming more the lower the chlorine gets?

    First time opening pool…and algae!

I’d love for that to be true. Is there a way to tell for sure? This morning I only lost 0.5 FC but CC was 1.0

    First time opening pool…and algae!

I could be wrong but I thought I’ve read that the higher chlorine is needed for the MA specifically I’ve been above regular slam levels for 2 weeks brushing daily

    First time opening pool…and algae!

First time opening the pool and got the water cleaned up but noticed what I believe is MA on the floors and benches and sun ledge. Cya 70 TA 140 Got ph to 7,4 before slamming After passing SLAM I noticed the pooping during brushing. I forgot that if it it’s mustard algae you have to increase...

interesting. thanks all for the info. it will definitely give me something to consider next year @Turbo1Ton , being in tulsa, does it ever get cold enough to cause issues when pumping at a slow speed? Do you ever kick the heater on when its going to be very cold?

wow...your electric bills must be pretty high. Even at low rpms, that will add up fast.

To your first point, that may be why they said don't lower the level as we have several ledges and steps that would practically make it impossible to not leave the water level at a horizontal surface. As for your second point, they are responsible for repair with the first year so I don't think...

@Turbo1Ton so how often do you run your pool pump in the winter? Do you only run it for freeze protection? or do you run it a bit every day?

You very well could be right and I'd be lying if I said I didn't think about covering it and still maintaining chemical. Just trusting the pool company as they say they have a similar setup to our in their personal pool and this is how they do it.

I see a big difference in maintaining a 530 gal spa vs a 27k gal pool. To me, it seems easier to deal with slamming vs constantly checking the chemistry and adjusting. And also adding in keeping it clean. We have quite a bit of trees around us. Plus I'm saving a lot on electricity by...

What is the risk of the water freezing on pebble finished plaster? The pool company said that it is a lot easier to repair the tile than letting it freeze and damage the plaster

Thanks for this great information. It appears that it isn't a big deal if just running the spa, but for the pool, basically don't heat the water once it gets down to around 50F?

By closed, I mean I got the chemical levels in line, added polyquat, and had the pool company come and blow out the lines and install the cover. I could be wrong, but I don't see the little splash over as anything to worry about I have automated valves but the actuators were turned off and the...

    New Spa Owner (Spillover)

Hello, I'm a new pool owner and this is my first experience with having my pool closed and the spa running through winter. I've read a lot on this site for maintaining a spa but one thing I can't find is if people with a SWG continue to run the SWG with the spa, or just turn it off for the...

    First time closing

First time closing for me. I think I am just going to pay the pool company to close for me this first time. One question I have is what do you do if the pool is only a couple months old and the pH still increases to where I am adding acid twice a week? I live in Oklahoma, so we do get below...
