    IC60 “Cap” Blown Off

Nope no freezing temps here for a few months. But out of curiosity, what might a freeze indicate? But thanks. To clarify, it sounds like you are saying this just appears like something caused the circuitry to short out, and doesn’t resemble the effects of a gas build up… correct? Here are a...

    IC60 “Cap” Blown Off

The power is wired to the filter relay on an intellitouch automation system. So it’s only getting power when the pump is running. But that’s why I’m wondering if maybe the flow rate from the pump got so low that the pump could have almost been considered to be functionally “off”, and the flow...

    IC60 “Cap” Blown Off

I recently had my IC60 fail somewhat violently. I came home to find the top portion or “cap” of the cell laying a good 15-20 ft from the equipment pad with a burn mark on the inside of the cap and a small puncture through the black membrane inside the cell. Very similar to the images in this...

    Taylor Borate Test Strip Problem

    70. Everything else is about where they should be for salt water I believe. Tests from 2 days ago (taken shortly after adding acid hence the PH… it’s back up to 7.8 now).

    Taylor Borate Test Strip Problem

Thanks. I had seen that before. I’m generally opposed to test strips, but figured borate levels may be the one area I could make an exception. Oh well.

    Taylor Borate Test Strip Problem

Good idea… tap water (city pulls from both ground and surface water) test kind of hints at a pinkish shade for the bottom end of the spectrum… not confidently though. At the very least, something about my pool chemistry is causing a difference.

    Taylor Borate Test Strip Problem

Thanks. FC is currently at 5ppm. This is what a “new” strip looks like, in case the color could indicate if they went bad. The seal on the bottle didn’t seem especially secure, so perhaps that’s it.

    Taylor Borate Test Strip Problem

I just converted to salt water and was planning to add borates to buffer PH rise. I ordered the Taylor borate test strips off TFTestkits. My water should have no borates right now, but 3/3 tests so far are providing a strange result. I followed the instructions on the bottle exactly, but I’m now...

Increased filter pressure after adding acid?

Is there any reason that after adding muriatic acid to the pool, filter pressure may increase? I’ve noticed this happen every once in a while. My pump runs on low 24/7 (and high for a few hours as well), and I have a spa spillover. Once the flow over the spa starts reducing to a trickle, it’s...

    Estimating TDH From Pump Curve?

I was more interested in calculating flow. Not for making adjustments for turnover, mostly curiosity and to make sure it is in spec/optimal when running the heater for example.

    Estimating TDH From Pump Curve?

See it now. Ah okay, I was mistaken thinking TDH remained constant across different RPMs. That makes sense, appreciate it!

    Estimating TDH From Pump Curve?

Thanks. Since I don’t have a way to measure flow directly, the idea was maybe I could find the RPM where flow goes to zero (water stops returning from all jets) to figure out the TDH, and then use that value against the curves to estimate the flow rate at higher RPMs. That make sense?

    Estimating TDH From Pump Curve?

Would it be valid to estimate TDH based on the pump curve and the RPM in where water from all return jets seems to stop? Not trying to achieve exact numbers, just ballpark. I see tons of sources using head to estimate flow, but not the other way around. Seems intuitive, but I’m a little...

Any hazard installing a smart relay to control pool lights?

I was considering installing a Z-Wave dry-contact relay to provide additional control of the pool lights, and to tie them into my home automation system. I have used several of these to control landscape lighting, flood lights, etc. and while I can't think of any danger, I wanted to check if...

    Mortar Repair on Spillover

Anyone have any recommendations on the right way to fix some deteriorating mortar between flagstones on a spa spillway? Having trouble finding if there is a "right" type of mortar or compound to be used for this. Of course I'd like to be able to decently color match it to the existing mortar as...
