Main Drain - How can blowing it out leave it water-free?

Air locking the main drain with a solid valve has always worked for me. Any pool that I close and reopen in the spring is testament to that as when I open the drain valve you can hear the rush of air coming into that plumbing as the water is now pushing the air out. After doing an airlock...

    Advice on winterizing ledge bubblers

Depth is usually around the 2nd step.. maybe 10 inches under water at normal skim depth. But lowering water for closing to just below skim, maybe 6 inches at the time of closing. We tend to get an inch, maybe two, of ice during the winter. My pool sense tells me to blow and plug, although...

    Advice on winterizing ledge bubblers

Bubblers haven't been very common here, yet seem to be popular these days. I'm curious how TFP views this. Either .. lower water level below them, blow, antifreeze, plug.. Or.. blow, airlock, done. Since these tend to stay under a good bit of water, freeze may not be an issue...

    Is my pump dead?

With pump power off, try manually turning the motor shaft. Accessible on the rear of many pool pumps. Did it feel stuck, then turned after you gave it some strength?

input on a good cordless bluetooth speaker

I've had two ue booms.. good battery life and sounded perfect... until I got two Harman/kardon onyx studios.. excellent sound quality, but directional and battery might last 4 hours depending on volume level

    New construction

A straight, rigid 2*4, four ft level.. duct tape level to 2*4. The longer the 2*4, the easier it is to check level between several blocks, prolly no longer than 12 ft though as too much flex otherwise. Choose the lowest block and dig all blocks to that level. May want to use a smaller level to...

Pump speeds to use new suction side cleaner.

Before going thru completely abandoning the main drain, I'd inspect the main drain gate valve further, may even just replace it... See what happens Polaris 380 is a pressure side cleaner that is designed to work in conjunction with a booster pump. If the pool has proper flow coming into the...

Skimmers are not pulling in water to the Pump - Problem fixed!

Google eyeball seat removal tool. There are a few to choose from. This will also help you removal the eyeball seat as sometimes those will remain in the wall after removing the retainer ring and eyeball. Though for your skimmer plug, you may need to fit this tool in the groove, then apply force...

Need advice on compensation request - total dishonesty and installation issues

I'm sorry, I misunderstood. A new liner along with whatever openings and closing you can get. You may want to contact the liner company thru a warranty claim as well.. and they should repair this one ASAP, if a repair is really possible. Cold winters/holes in a liner near the bead.. not good

Need advice on compensation request - total dishonesty and installation issues

As far as using the pool this year, that's a fair expectation.. assuming certain criteria.. which is always subject to change based on weather, and unfortunately these days, availability of materials. So on that basis a new pool owner isn't going to have much leg to stand on unfortunately...

    General pool build questions

It may be hindsight at this point, but your best bet may have been to add a lateral system feeding a sump well. 1 or 2 trenches dug just below subgrade of hopper, from the hopper leading to a sump well. Continually pumping the sump during the build would've kept you from having to deal with water.

Need advice on compensation request - total dishonesty and installation issues

Please clarify.. "give winter cover". Are you saying they are going to provide a solid safety cover and install free of charge? And generally speaking, 1 year opening and closing has been included in build contracts for companies I've worked for.

    General pool build questions

Perf sump pipe plumbed back to pool pump, alot of work for little reward, if any. This line could be, from an elevation standpoint, 50,70,90% empty? Your pump will have trouble with this. Sump well outside the pool will address any need to remove ground water. Jimmythegreek, a fine plan, one...

    General pool build questions

By 2 ft over dig do you mean you dug the deep end 2 ft lower than its finished elevation? If so that's quite a lot. If you haven't filled this in with gravel yet you're definitely going to want this to dry out and raise and compact 4 to 6 in at a time. This water does need to be addressed...

    General pool build questions

Age old question there, glue on threaded PVC fitting? From what I understand, the plumbing industry answer is no, do not glue them. Use a non hardening sealant. That being said, I've dove many pools checking for leaks and a glued thread joint on a main drain was never the culprit. If you're...

    General pool build questions

It's been a few years, but hopefully I'm remembering correctly the few hundred Ive built. In a nutshell.. Start by placing and straightening the bottom of a long wall. I used rebar or concrete stakes to pin the walls in place, on the inside of the wall, at the corners and throughout the middle...

Neighbors revoked previously agreed upon access

We decided to build our pool just after covid hit. We are adjacent to a green space, that I was given HOA permission to use to get materials to our yard. As it turned out, the scheduled delivery of my pool shell got bumped up, and didn't coincide with my excavation timeline, so I craned the pool...

    Is this light safe?

Yep, those lights are meant to be wet all around them. Even a very proper install with no visible gap will allow water behind the light by design. Assuming correct wiring and bonding, should be safe. Conduit behind the light niche is a very common area for a leak. A simple dye test will...

    Help!! Plumbing Leaks!!

Possible that the leak is sufficient to cause this error, but it would have to be a pretty significant leak I would think. It could also be that the leak is causing some flow fluctuations inside the flow switch, causing intermittent errors. If this were a service call I were on, I'd recommend...

    Help!! Plumbing Leaks!!

Repairs can be made on the fitting, but I wouldn't consider any of these repairs to be permanent I wouldn't say that. What I'm saying is that when you go to replace this plug just turn the pump off. I don't mean to tell you anything you already know but anytime you're making these type of...

    Help!! Plumbing Leaks!!

When you remove the filter plug, some debris may flow into the threading of the filter plug port. Be sure to clean this port of all this debris before installing the new plug or it may mess up the threads or just leak.
