Opened yesterday, Day 1 and Day 2 photos

Hi, everyone. We were late in opening up, so just did it yesterday, and for the first time ever water was green! Yesterday's readings: FC=0 ph=7.2 CYA=23-25 Color=light gross green. A good amount of debris got in also when we were getting the cover off. So according to the chart, I added...

Does pump need to be on high when adding chemicals?

We just opened our 27' AG pool yesterday. My husband has shoulder problems and will have surgery soon, so he's having trouble doing what we'd need to do to allow the pump to run on high (apologies, I'm not sure if it's called priming, or what. It's unscrewing the clear lid off the place where...

Holes in AG winter cover -- patch?

Hi-- We just got the AG pool ready for closing, and put the cover on & all was going well until our golden retriever came up on the deck and boom, jumped on the cover. There are about 8 small holes we see from his nails. Will a pool liner patch kit to work on the holes, or do we need to rip this...

    Shock or maintain this FC?

Hey, everyone. Thanks for everyone's help last year. We just took off the cover yesterday, and for a few glorious seconds the water looked crystal clear. Then the cover, which we hadn't cleared of leaves like we should have, got a little out of hand. We managed to pull the cover off, but that...

    Order of chemicals/ready to close

Re: shocking, that's true. Thank goodness I've never had to shock the pool all summer :) You think the TA is ok to leave at 60? I'll deal with the Ph first, then how long before I can add the bleach?

    Order of chemicals/ready to close

We have cleaned out the pool. Ladder out. Skimmer plate is on. All that's left is taking it to shock level and circulating that through the pump, then covering (also disconnecting pump & hoses, etc.). Here are today's chemistry numbers (obviously pre-shock) FC: 4 CC: 0 Ph: 7.7 TA: 60 CYA:45...

My pool man -- closing photo!

Yes, the water's pretty cold here in Kentucky...what can I say. I am proud of our sparking water, if I do say so myself. :)

    Partial drain or not?

We're starting our first closing tomorrow. Is there a preference as to whether we drain below skimmer & return or use plugs & leave water level up? Thanks!

    Removing steps and ladder

We are finished swimming for the season. I'd like to go ahead and close, but for the sake of a good opening next spring I will let it go for awhile until water cools down. But in order to access the pool and stir things up well, I need to be in the pool--which is now a temperature problem. Yet...

    New to it all!

You hear it a lot, and I can say it's true --- get the largest you can afford $$-wise and space-wise. We bought at 24' this summer, and after delivery but before install we changed our minds and returned it for the 27' (52"). The reason we got 52" instead of 54" was because of our daughter's...

    Solar cover AG pool question

Thanks. We have a blue one, so we will use it at nighttime. Right now the temp is maybe 79, so we'll see if it's possible later today to swim. Brrr.

    Solar cover AG pool question

It's been so hot this summer we haven't needed to use our solar cover (this is our first summer with pool). Silly question, but does the cover draw in heat from the sun & then retain it, as in should we put it on this morning to get sun all day and take it off right before swimming at 5 pm...

    Borates, Ph-, CYA, bleach

Thanks. Do you like the borates? So far I seem to tell the most difference in the feel. My hair felt softer as soon as it got wet in the pool. I don't think I imagined it.

    Borates, Ph-, CYA, bleach

Yeah! I found someplace last week that wanted $60 for the size I needed then about the same $$ for shipping! That's when I just went w/Proteam. Next time I will use this place. :-D

    Borates, Ph-, CYA, bleach

    proteam, i mean.

    Borates, Ph-, CYA, bleach

The TA was in line before I added the protean supreme plus. It was at 80.

    Borates, Ph-, CYA, bleach

Still afraid of MA. I know it's irrational, but I am klutzy & would rather deal with a powder. It's why I was willing to use the most expensive method for borates, Proteam Supreme Plus. Though, unfortunately it's not real neutral, as it advertises.

    Borates, Ph-, CYA, bleach

I'm fine tuning some things in the pool, and my question is: at night, when I come home from work, is there a "best order" of adding chemicals? *I need to add more ProTeam Supreme Plus to get my borates up to around 50ppm. Right now they are a little under 40 because I was adding in two...

    CYA reading ?

Re: CYA reading ? PHOTOS ADDED I thought I would post some photos of a CYA test I did tonight. I did the best I could with the photos, but it wasn't easy. Autofocus didn't like it, and neither did my eyes manually. From top to bottom, we have CYA 30, 40 and and 50. Let me know what you think.

    CYA reading ?

The hose on the side of the pool in the avatar is from the day we were filling it. I just haven't changed it!

    CYA reading ?

    Thanks, will do!

    CYA reading ?

We definitely haven't had heavy pool usage, dogs, dirty feet, etc., issues. I am dumping what seems like a lot of chlorine into the pool each night. Starting most days around 8 FC, coming home to anywhere between 5 or as low as 2.5 FC. Yet pool is crystal clear and CC is 0. It's been very...

    CYA reading ?

The pool is almost three weeks old now, and it's going well. You have been so helpful. Early on, we got CYA readings of 50-55. Then, I'd say it read more like 45. We went several days without checking, and now it's more like 35-38. My husband and I each independently read it the other night...

Water teeny bit less than perfect

That's what we were thinking with the Intex SWG -- if it worked well enough, and lasted even just one season (hopefully more) it would be a cheap way to try it. After a couple years of this pool, we may wind up with one. In the meantime, I am happy to report that there was absolutely no slimy...

Water teeny bit less than perfect

Linen, I had talked here about an Intex SWG so that's where I thought you got it. I think if we decided to do SWG we need something with a bit more oomph than the Intex SWG for this size pool. (But mainly right now we're warranty scared). It is a hard-wall, and thanks for the return tip. I'll...

Water teeny bit less than perfect

Thanks for the help, everyone. Re: Intex system, were you talking about the SWG? We chickened out on using an SWG because the pool warranty says "any use of saltwater" voids it. So we're strictly bleach for now.
