Pool leaks past a certain point

Yep, they set the new coping right on top of that "new" bond beam with mortar. The pool was redone in the summer of 2021 and the pavers were laid in the summer of 2022. At least here in Miami, the temperature doesn't fluctuate very much, but it's a shame regardless. There's probably too many...

Pool leaks past a certain point

One additional question. Even if they had chipped down to the rebar, how would the joint be sealed properly?

Pool leaks past a certain point

That's what I feared. There was no rebar or anything unfortunately and I wish I could go back and convince my dad to go with the company that had a longer wait to get started. This is someone who did my neighbors pool, so we trusted him, but my neighbor just had the plaster redone. No coping or...

Pool leaks past a certain point

Two years ago, my dad had his pool redone by someone who turned out to be very incompetent. To make this short, I will leave out some of the reasons why. Basically, the work done involved applying new plaster and raising up the coping by pouring concrete on top of the existing pool shell and...

New pump, air bubbles coming out of jets

Hey everyone, we just got a new pump and filter housing today since we're getting pavers installed in our patio and I need to remove the old noisy pump and 20 year old filter, might as well replace them. Anyway I have the pump temporarily plumbed so I can cut the pipes when the paver work their...

    Using skimmer cap riser ring?

Hello everyone, I'll keep it simple. We're having pavers installed on our patio and the current skimmer is flush with the old patio. The pavers will raise the deck up about 2 inches and the skimmer lid will be recessed. We bought a ring from the local pool store but the problem is that it...

Pool guy told me this is how it's done. I disagree

Okay cool. I appreciate the suggestion and the method of pulling the light. We'll be ordering something in the next few days and I'll be updating everyone.

Yes exactly what he said. No open connections except for the junction box.

Pool guy told me this is how it's done. I disagree

Because from what I saw when our lamp was removed, the cable goes into the housing and it's all one piece. We're also changing the whole fixture to an led one because the gasket has a leak and the lamp is full of water. From what I've read online, it's no problem to do it the way I described by...

Pool guy told me this is how it's done. I disagree

Back for an update. The floating skimmer isn't that great and I'm going to be sending it back. It robs the vacuum line of too much suction and the vacuum kinda just floats around. I have a new question. The pool guy was a joke and my dad got him to agree to break the contract. I just think he...

Pool guy told me this is how it's done. I disagree

Haha that's a pretty cool idea, I may check it out. They also tend to use the vacuum hose as a life preserver too. Funny there's like-minded people out there. My dad has a 4 year old (yes quite the age gap) so they have the pool fence. Frogs were only an issue for us years ago when the pool...

Also I just want to add some insight on our new skimmer problem. I ordered one of these today. It's basically a floating skimmer that attaches to the vacuum and moves around the pool. It's from a website called "skim-a-round." It will be here probably by the end of the week and I'll let you all...

Pool guy told me this is how it's done. I disagree

Thanks, I appreciate the kind words. It was a rewarding feeling to see the original plaster underneath that awful epoxy. We didn't know any better in 2013 when we applied it because it seemed like a good idea but never again! Everyone should steer clear of that garbage. We should've just acid...

Pool guy told me this is how it's done. I disagree

Unfortunately the kit I got from Amazon tests Chlorine, Bromine, pH, Acid Demand, and Total Alkalinity but not cyanuric acid. I will have to look into getting a test for that.

Pool guy told me this is how it's done. I disagree

Alkalinity only seems to be 40 ppm and pH is 7.8ish. Test kit says it may need some acid. Chlorine is about 2 ppm. The stains seem to be a bit better with brushing. Sure is tricky to get the chemistry balanced.

Pool guy told me this is how it's done. I disagree

Back for an update. Unfortunately some greenish algae-looking stains seem to have appeared which don't come off from brushing. I fear it may be there because my dad hasn't been brushing it as often as he should be. So I'm wondering is there a way to remove this, perhaps by shocking the pool? Or...

Pool guy told me this is how it's done. I disagree

Unfortunately the skimmer is too low now that they raised the coping to match the future deck. This is the water level on the tiles and the skimmer. Not a big deal I suppose we can just clean the surface with a net. I guess this is the end haha. Thanks again and again to you Kimkats and everyone...

No biggie. It doesn't look bad now that the pool is full. As you said, I'm the only one who will notice it and that's because I have an eye for this stuff. The pool guy has sent someone who's going to maintain it for four visits and then we'll take over. The water comes out of the tap at a...
