    Heater considerations

We have solar panels so it's not as much of an issue as far as power consumption (esp if I run it in the day), but I'm not up for digging a new electrical line (paying to have it put in), so I think we'll be skipping the heater unless we can build an awning on my deck to mount a solar one...

    Heater considerations

So I would like to put in a water heater for my above ground pool. Now that we have solar electricity, I'm trying to decide between a heat pump and resistive heater. Here are my two main questions: 1) I have a wire run to the pool that is on a 20 amp circuit, and the junction box has an...

That's it!! I'm done with swimming pools....

Well, I figure that bathing suits are made to handle chlorine, so I just throw on one before I do anything with chlorine - I haven't had any issues with bleach spots on them, so far/knock on wood.

TFTest kit gurus... How do I tell the old from new bottles

(sorry for not responding sooner, I apparently was coming down with COVID the day I openedmy pool so I was out of it for a few days and then recovering/catching up since then). Good idea with the weighing it on the scale! I plan to mark the year on them going forward!! For now I'll just run...

TFTest kit gurus... How do I tell the old from new bottles

Sooo I might have assumed that the TFTest kit reagent bottles would have some kind of dates on them and took out my new set and the one I was replacing at the same time. I mostly kept them apart until I may have accidentally knocked one out of the bag onto others which fell over and now I...

    Is heating an AGP practical?

It's the same for us, cover on 24/7 (we opened early May and the kid and some friends went in when the solar cover only got it to 65 (not to bad for starting at about 60 and low 80's day temps at the time) May I ask if your pool is partially buried? I make sure to run my pump during the day...

Pool hasn’t been opened in a few years. Help!

Just to be clear, by leaf rake you mean the pool net thing, and not a lawn rake, right? (I didn't know it was called it a leaf rake until tonight, but I am pretty new to pools... )

    Is heating an AGP practical?

Thanks, I already keep a solar cover on it to keep some of the junk out and get it warmer (it was 72 during the sunniest time today with the filter running - but it is still too cold for me when the high is upper 60's...)

    Is heating an AGP practical?

I live in Connecticut and have a 24ft round agp that is entirely (except for like 1 foot for about 1/3rd of it) above ground. Not buried more than the minimum required for most of the circumference. Is it reasonable/practical to heat it, or would i just be heating the outdoor air around the...

    opening questions for 2023

Are you losing chlorine to algea or other during the nights? If not, your pool is already the way it would be after a SLAM. I opened mine similarly this year and didn't have to SLAM at all. Might as well save the chlorine if you won't change anything by doing it. As for the solar cover, I...

Excellent, the kid will be happy in the future when he has to wait (less time) after I add chlorine...

Pool way too good to be true...

I thought so, but wasn't sure if there was a need to circulate the pool to make sure its everywhere, etc. I have been working under the assumption of it taking 30 min to an hour to distribute and kill nasties if I accidentally get it too low.

Pool way too good to be true...

I was more wondering if it was sanitary, given it may have had FC really low in parts... How long do you have to keep the pool in the target FC to have had it kill stuff (assuming its not losing FC to killing algea or other larger less dangerous stuff)

Need suggestions on a skimmer leak repair

You can find instructions for the dye test at the end of this article: https://www.troublefreepool.com/blog/2019/01/18/leak-detection/

Need suggestions on a skimmer leak repair

I had a leak in like 3 places on my skimmer when I installed it. I ended up going with A+B epoxy putty (pool putty). Not too difficult to work with in small amounts (gotta really mix the parts, and get fairly equal chunks to combine) and I ended up using a lot. The final fix was a little...

Pool way too good to be true...

Question - once it circulates for 24 hrs, do I have to do a shock, or can I bring up the FC and be good to go? It's like 37° low tonight, so I'm hoping the cold will keep the nasties at bay until I can bring up the FC...

Pool way too good to be true...

Ok, so my plan was, after reading some other threads about leaky threaded fittings (thank you @Ajw for the correct term to search for to get me a more specific forum post/thread!): 1) Get some T+2 pipe dope (check) 2) Stopper the return, shut off the pre-pump valve (er... plug didn't fully...

Pool way too good to be true...

That looks like a cartridge or de filter.... Mine has 300lbs of sand in the main part. I don't happen to own a forklift so the filter is not moving until it dies. Also, I have a high pressure hose, but no solid ones. That whitish guy is flexible, not a lot, but some. I disconnect it from the...

Pool way too good to be true...

Ok, so - the air in the pump was *definitely* from the o-ring not having lubricant. I put some on (a decently thick coating), and now it's pulling just water. Huzzah. *but* it's now making the tiny drips in either end of the return line turn into small streams when it runs. So I shut it off...

Pool way too good to be true...

Thinking about it, I remember the pH was probably super wacky because I had to do a slam right before closing to clear up some algea and I forgot the pH test before I upped the FC.

Pool way too good to be true...

Well, I better enjoy it for now, because something is up with the pump. And I won't be running the filter for a bit longer! I got the water level up tonight and started the pump up, but shut it right down as there were a couple of drips on the two connections for the return. Then I started it...

Pool way too good to be true...

Honestly don't know... I have 3 readings in my pool math logs for that time - 30 then 14.5 an hour and a half later, and then 13.5 the next morning. I think there was more of a story to the 30, but I don't remember...

Pool way too good to be true...

I figured it would be unevenly distributed! I added half the water needed to raise the pool level and retested after that had mixed it up a teeny bit... went down to 7.5. Sunny day and CYA low pro. Didn't help, but it's looking really good! I have to vacuum 2 leaves and a tiny bit of dirt by...
