I think the timer on the unit is 2hr increments so I'll try reducing my it by 2 at a time and monitor

    Swg FC levels.

So, I have a 6100gal above ground pool. Recently added a Intex swg. First season using one. It's been great so far. Current CYA of 55-60. Ph 7.6. pool math app says I should be shooting for 7fc. I've been measuring almost daily for the last 2 weeks just to get a baseline of where the FC levels...

    New to SWG

Is it ok once I receive my SWG generator to go ahead and start running or just stick with bleach until it warms up more consistently? The temp has a been pretty cold the last week. If not can I go ahead and add the salt anyways? Currently adding stabilizer in a sock to the pool.

    New to SWG

Ok, great thanks for the reply. Another question. Do you raise the fc initially by using bleach to desired fc level before running swg?

    New to SWG

Guys I have just set a new replacement Above ground 18ft pool. For last several years I have followed tfp recommendations for adding chlorine and slamming etc. decided this year to try my hand at SWG. The question: is the purpose of the SWG to makeup for fc loss due to sun heat etc. ? So let's...

    Cloudy pool

So today since we had all the rain and water level was higher. I decided to vacuum to waste the dead algae since it would keep coming back after vacuuming and brushing and not getting filtered out. We'll see if this helps.

    Cloudy pool

That's a good point. I have been vacuuming daily and brushing. And dead grey algae keeps coming back on the floor. So maybe it's just passing through the filter? It's been a while since I've posted here. So my signature is not updated. I have since upgraded the filter to a much improved...

    Cloudy pool

Background: opened pool to a green swamp. Been slamming for about a month. Pool passes OCT. CC .5 or less. What I have been battling for a while now is just a hazy water. It has been clear enough to see the bottom. Just not crystal clear. This brings me to today. This morning after confirming no...

Thanks to this forum for helping me get my pool ready for this summer! Got to finally take a sim with the kiddos! Water was great, felt soft, no heavy chemical smell. Pool has been holding at 10fc at 50cya every day. Water is clear with no algae in sight!

    Heavy Rains

So, I retested my CYA, I didn't think it would drop that much, but boy it did, since I did a partial drain and refill. I had to fill the r0013 solution all the way to the top have the black dot dissappear. There is not even a ppm mark for that. Is it 20ppm? I'm definitely going to have to raise...

    Heavy Rains

How long of a time window does a owner have once the fc drops below fc maintenance ppm before algae could cause a problem or even start to grow. For example cya of 50 has a target fc of 6-8ppm, over the course of the day the fc naturally drops down to 4ppm. It needs to be brought back up to...

    Heavy Rains

Drained the water off below the skimmer, since I needed to replace a leaking gasket, but also from the excessive rain. So, once refilled to normal water level I'll recheck the cya from water replacement. It was 50 hopefully it didn't drop to much

    Heavy Rains

I have experienced heavy rains in my area for the last week and a half, and supposed to continue till the end of the week. Should SLAM be performed because of that. Or just maintain. I'm also going to need to drain some water

Yep, Its a crappy stock skimmer filter. I have been cleaning and also added a skimmer sock to the basket inside. Which has helped. Just replaced the cartridge with a new one 2 days ago. I try and hose the cartridges off every day.

I wish I would of took a before picture, but being the green sludge monster that rivals many of the ones that you can search the forums for. I think there is one thread even dedicated to green swamps, I am extremely happy with the progress. It can be done!

Log: FC OCLT - 20-20.5ppm target ppm 20. - Passed CC - 0-.5 - Passed Water is crystal clear, but bottom is still dirty with dead algae. Tried to vacuum to waste by gravity, really didn't work well. Not enough suction. Still waiting on vacuum attachmnent Continuing with SLAM until the bottom...

It has been raining a lot so I wonder if just vacuuming to waste is a good option, since the water level is high? Since the filter is doesn't have a waste option, can I just hang the hose off the side and use gravity?

@IceShadow is correct I am passing the OCLT test from last test in evening overnight to morning test.

    Opening pool

Possibly. That's why I'm continuing the slam until everything is gone. Waiting on my vacuum skimmer attachment to come to vacuum. Water is crystal clear though. All the tests come back good. The stuff on the bottom is really the last thing to check off.

Since raising to 20ppm slam yesterday evening. I only lost 2.5ppm over 8.5 hrs. Of daylight today. Granted its been overcast and rainy. But still much better ppm loss during daylight. Brought back to 20ppm again.

The results were good very little reaccumilation on the area that I swept. You can see the area to the right of the pool. So that tells me that its most likely dead algae and dust/pollen. Hopefully the vac will work.
