Why such high CYA recommendations for saltwater pools?

Gotcha. Thanks. That's why I was asking/scratching my head because I don't seem to have any issues with lower CYA myself (and I live in San Diego - pretty high UV). That said, we don't use the pool a ton either.

Why such high CYA recommendations for saltwater pools?

I was referring to the articles and charts like this (several variants exist online) that show drastically "diminishing returns" above ~30ppm. This particular chart is from this article but there are many: Minimal CYA | Pillar 4 I'm not discounting real-world experiences from members...

Why such high CYA recommendations for saltwater pools?

Thanks. My SWCG has no problem keeping up. I run it @ 40% output for 6 hours per day in the peak of summer (reduced % in other months) to maintain FC levels in the 2-4ppm range at all times with a CYA between 30-40. This keep my FC:CYA ratio at the recommended 7.5% (give or take). Just not...

Why such high CYA recommendations for saltwater pools?

The 60-80ppm (or even 70-90ppm) CYA recommendations for saltwater pools makes absolutely zero sense to me. My SWCG makes chlorine every single day. A CYA of 30-40 allows me to run with FC levels of 2-3 (7-8% of CYA) and have zero issues and I can adjust the SWCG output monthly to maintain...

I see. I'll be sure to take note of the pressure right after the filter is cleaned next time. Thanks!

Good info. I'll test that out at some point. I'll ask the pool guy about our filter cartridges the next time I see him. How often are they typically replaced? He cleans them twice a year, but he hasn't said anything about them needing replaced.

I normally run the pump at 2350-2500 RPMs when not heating. The filter pressure is 11 & 12 psi at these RPMs (see first post). The filter was cleaned ~3 months ago and is due for another cleaning in 3 months.

No way - I wish! 1800 RPM is only around 16gpm according to the ScreenLogic app. I need 2200-2300 RPM to satisfy IntelliChlor (going by the green & red lights). I need 2800 RPM to achieve the MasterTemp 400's minimum 40 GPM (according to ScreenLogic), so I have "Either Heater" set to 2800...

Wow, in this thread (Verifiable Benefits of a Heater Bypass Install), some people saw huge increases in GPM/decreases in wattage after installing a heater bypass - sounds like something to look into for sure!

Understood. I just find it easier to run the SWCG for a set time and percentage output each day (i.e. 8 hours @ 30% in the Summer) vs. a potentially moving target (i.e. if I decide to change my pump schedule from 16 hours/day to 12 hours/day on certain days of the week, I'd need to adjust the...

Please Help with Low Flow Issue - IntelliFlo VSF Pump - Pics Included

Correct. It's wired to where it cannot be operated except in pool/spa mode, but I can independently turn it on/off by powering the Aux circuit. The associated Aux circuit cannot be powered on UNLESS it's in pool/spa mode however (which in turn powers the Aux circuit). I asked the guy to wire...

That doesn't sound good! The IntelliChlor is wired to one of the Aux circuits on the board and cannot be powered on unless the pump is also on (i.e. I can choose to run the SWCG during a subset of the time the pump is running). Is there still an explosion risk in this case if the SWCG isn't...

Please Help with Low Flow Issue - IntelliFlo VSF Pump - Pics Included

Hello everyone! I could really use some help diagnosing possible causes of low flow/gpm in our system. We moved into this house in early 2021. The pool is somewhere in the neighborhood of 15-18 years old and is probably ~20,000 gallons based on my very rough calculation (including the...

How to Schedule Different Pump Speeds via New Circuit/Feature (Pentair ScreenLogic)

Thanks Jim. Even without using the “spillway” circuit the spa still spills over to the pool. It just gets MORE spillover when the circuit turns the valve to return 100% of the water to the spa. This allows me to use lower rpms to achieve the same desired waterfall effect and saves on cost. We...

How to Schedule Different Pump Speeds via New Circuit/Feature (Pentair ScreenLogic)

Thanks Jim! Your suspicions were correct - it appears spillway can only be used by one circuit/feature for whatever reason. I tried it this morning and it worked exactly as you guessed it would. That said, I think I found a suitable solution. I deleted the new "waterfall low"...

How to Schedule Different Pump Speeds via New Circuit/Feature (Pentair ScreenLogic)

Hi Everyone! I'm new here and found this forum from a Google search. I have a question about setting up a new feature/circuit which is a clone of an existing feature/circuit but with a different pump speed. I'm using Pentair ScreenLogic/SLConfig. There is a circuit in our ScreenLogic...
