Any issues adding SWCG to metal ABG pool

Moved from here I am evaluating adding a SWG to my parents above ground pool. I am concerned about corrosion with the metal frame and from what I am reading here, I shouldn’t worry? Thoughts?

    Sanatizers

I have a quick question. CAN both bromine AND chlorine be used at the same time with pool care? Background: I have a coworker who has purchased a house with a pool probably 1 year ago. I have tried to get her to TFP and to get her own test kit but she hasn't yet and she uses a pool guy. She...

    Looking to add some automation....

HI Jim, Thanks for the reply.... Yes, I am talking about things like controllers for acid additions, chlorine additions (vs SWG). I am aware of the need to continue to test to verify things are where they should be and the need to calibrate a pH probe monthly. I am just trying to look at...

    Looking to add some automation....

Does anyone use controllers? If so, what brand is it? Do you like it? Would you purchase something different if you could do it over again?

    Looking to add some automation....

So, I help my dad from a distance giving advice on maintaining his pool and trying to prevent him from getting pool-stored... My mom used to do it but due to health reasons she can no longer maintain the chemistry. I would like to possibly add some automation to their system and make it easier...

    Testing Calcium

Drain, refill is cheapest option. I've heard of having a water treatment done at the pool like Reverse Osmosis. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong. Sorry So Short. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Testing Calcium

Ha Ha Rich, I agree. What does it matter with numbers so high :) I feel like my color is such a gradual change I just don't know when to call it done. I was actually hoping that I would see a more dramatic change to know it is done. Maybe to 10cc sample would suffice as well. And I do have a...

    Testing Calcium

My Calcium level is high and I just have to deal with it for now. I run 550's to 650's. I want to know what I can dilute my sample with so I am not using as much testing reagents and maybe I can get a more precise number. Will distilled water work? 50/50?

Question about remotes for Hayward/Goldline Pro-Logic

I have the Aqua Pod and Pro-logic system and I am able to change through my lights with the remote. It to is the same with needing to cycle on-off-on-off-on to change light color. The system was put in around 2009.

6% Clorox or 10.5% pool store chlorine?

Ok, I think of it like this. Someone let me know if I am off base 546 oz of 6% chlorine at $8.49. I take 546oz x .06 is 32.76oz of 100% chlorine in that batch. Take the price $8.49 and divide by 32.76 oz giving $0.25 per ounce of effective chlorine. 320 oz of 10.5% chlorine at $4.50. I...

    Sick Pool

Yes, turned blue imediately. My TF 100 kit was purchased in Feb/Mar. I have a hard time believing she wouldn't have any CA in her fill water but I'll test it to see.

    Sick Pool

Bear with me, I'm trying to respond from my phone and I'm at work. At Richard- I tested the CH and retested the CH a second time. Last time I used my CH test was probably about 3 weeks ago. My CH in my pool always tests high in 450-500 range. So I found it rather odd that I did not get...

    Sick Pool

I have a friend who came to me regarding her pool, which now has cloudy water. I went over to her place and sure enough it is cloudy. I took a sample of the water home to test it and her results are... pH 7.2 FC – 0 CC 1.5 CYA <20 TA 90 CH 0 She definitely needs to shock her pool. She has...

    Advice for first time poster

My main question is whether my low CH reading should be addressed and if so, how? I believe this should be addressed. You can use the pool calculator to determin how much chemical you should add. With a low CH, your putting your plaster on the pool at rick for having Calcium dissolve out of...

new results - ph high and cya low

The CYA in liquid form does not alter the pH, but the granular/powder form of CYA does lower pH as well. At the bottom of the pool calculator you can enter the amount of the CYA you would add to your pool and it will tell you how it will affect the pH.

New vinyl pool- how are my #'s?

TA is not bad. The only way to get your TA down is to add Muriatic acid to lower pH then aerate your pool water to help bring pH back up. This article, Lower Total Alkalinity, explains the process well. I also agree with duraleigh. :goodjob:

    Question on PH

I too have a SWG and overflow from spa to pool. I have been adding 1 cup of MA daily. I don't like my pH to get up to 7.8. I try to keep between 7.5-7.7. Hard to tell what it is over 7.8 and my CH is high, so it's better to keep it lower for me.

    Neighbor ready to jump

Dumping in all the chlorine as you stated in the 1st post leads me to believe he should shock the pool. Sounds like the 3 BIG jugs were used up so quickly, you never was able to get a chlorine measurement from it.

Just opened my pool...yikes, it looks awful!

I have no experience with HTH brand, but I am only finding that they only test OTO. That is a test for total chlorine and usually only go up to about 5ppm. You really should get this style FAS-DPD test kit. This kit will test for both FC and CC and can test high levels of chlorine. Here is a...

Just opened my pool...yikes, it looks awful!

Definetly get one as the dipsticks are not reliable and they do not measure high enough to know you are at shock level.

    Shock Level For CC Buildup

I believe I have read that same information in a book called "Pool Chlorination Facts" by Robert Lowry. "Combined Chlorine X 10 = Breakpoint" I dont recall the book discussing CYA in relation to minimum Chlorine levels.

You did not mention what your FC was last evening. If you had a drop of 1.0 or more of FC overnight, you need to continue the shock process. :)

Just opened my pool...yikes, it looks awful!

Hi sjdhr75 :) Where are you at with the care of your pool right now? Have you purchased a FAS-DPD test kit yet? It really is necessary to adequately shock your pool. I would not worry about your CYA at this time as you have added plenty to help hold the chlorine while you shock. You need...
