    YouTube

I just watched the 2 YouTube videos on Pool Chlorine storage and FC/CYA. Very informative info on there, just unfortunate I missed it at launch. I always thought CYA would be difficult to bring down...basically drain and refill, but I see the sun and chlorine can diminish CYA over time. When...

    DPD Testing

I just got back from a vacation...9 days. Prior to leaving I had my FC at 16 accidentally, I was shooting for 12, but over shot! I turned off my Chlorinator since it was at 16. I was not too concerned since I knew it was going to rain hard for a couple of days, which it did. I had to drain some...

    Texas Snow...

Well I'm experiencing my first pool snow! How much does the snow affect the pool balance? I do have my equipment under cover and the freeze protection has been on since 3am this morning, so nothing freezing...yet! Just wondering what the effects of the snow will be?

    TF-100 TA Testing...and other??

When testing the TA, the instructions says "one drop at a time, swirling between each drop. Wipe the tip of the bottle after every drop with a damp cloth." How critical is it to wipe the tip after every drop with a damp cloth? On the CYA test, would it be ok to use the plastic beaker and fill...

    Heat Pump & Pool Cover

Hello Everyone, I have an Aqua Cal Heat Pump and a bubble wrap type pool cover. Newbie Questions are: Is it ok to turn on the heat pump when the water is 50* or is that too cold? I know it's going to eat a lot of Kw, but we got some family over and they want to take a dip (I told them to take a...

    Vacation Time!

So what do most people do when they go on vacation to keep their pool maintained? I'll be away for 10 days, but I'm hesitant to use a pool service...not sure if I'll get my bang for the buck! My neighbors won't be any better and probably worse. I'll be going at the middle of January, so it'll...

    And the Rain came down!

Started to have heavy rain yesterday and then again today. It's starting to slow down now, and there looks to be sunshine in the coming days. This is my first heavy rain where my water level is about an inch from overflow, and definitely higher than my skimmer. I know the proper level should be...

    Weir door keeps closing

I noticed this morning my pump was sucking air and noisy, so I thought there might be a leak somewhere and shut off the skimmer valve and noticed my pump basket was filling with water and all the air was starting to be flushed out. I then closed the main drain and opened the skimmer and the...

Trying to understand Alkalinity and Power of Hydrogen (pH) scale

So if pH is a scale of acid (1) and alkaline (14), why do we say we need to raise/lower...the scale (pH)? I'm probably thinking too much on this and keep getting on Rabbit trails, but it seems we would say to raise/lower your acid or alkaline being pH is a scale of the two. :brickwall: Thank you!

    Aeration..

Currently I don't need to aerate, but I don't like doing things last minute so... Being I only have my returns to even hopefully cause some bubbly, when I turn them up do I set my rpm at max to break the surface? Or, is causing a current at the surface enough? Also, would it be ok to use a sump...

    Winter Wonder Land

Hello Everyone! I have few questions regarding winter weather, since this is my first winter with a pool. Temps may come down to mid/high 20's (i.e. 26*-29*), but not for long, usually in the 30's and the longest about 5 days, and usually not in a row. Average is mid 30's to mid 40's...

    Need some explanation on Borates

I did a search on this and apparently the thread has not had any response in the past 60 days, so I'm starting another one on this subject. I'm a total newbie here in the pool world, I do know some stuff, but not what they really do, I worked for a pool supply company. I had a pool installed...
