Water boatmen - do I need to SLAM?

Definitely failed the overnight chlorine loss test, so commenced the SLAM. I spent hours on Saturday scrubbing the waterline tiles with a steel brush, and took off much more black algae than I realised was there. I'm hoping it'll pass the overnight chlorine loss test tonight, because I'm so...

Water boatmen - do I need to SLAM?

That is so immensely helpful, thankyou Newdude. If the kids can still swim at SLAM levels, I think i'll avoid all doubt and just proceed with the SLAM. And I'll round the CYA up to 60- thanks for the tip!

Water boatmen - do I need to SLAM?

I'm new to the forum, and been trying to get my levels in order after learning so much here. The water is looking nice and clear (photo attached), but this morning I spotted what I think is a water boatman in the pool- it dived down when disturbed, so I think that's what it was. Searching the...

How to I approach this stain?

Thank you! I will persist with with Vitamin C tablets then. There are a number of reasons I can forsee needing to resurface the pool in future, so if it comes to that I will make sure they treat the exposed rebar at the same time.

How to I approach this stain?

Well the vitamin C tablets certainly worked, although not as much as I would have expected given the number I put on there. I am trying to convince a child to swim down there with a magnet, but no luck as yet! Is a full ascorbic acid treatment likely to do a better job than settling vitamin c...

How to I approach this stain?

No, I haven't done anything - I was scared off by the mnetion of iron precipitates in the water! I wanted to make sure that I wasn't going to hurt anything by putting a stocking of vitamin C tablets in the pool.

How to I approach this stain?

Thanks for the reply. The surface wasn't replaced as such, we just cleaned it with a high pressure water cleaner. I think it might be in the same place, but i'm not completely sure. If it is rebar poking through, do I have any options?

How to I approach this stain?

Hi there, New to the forums, and a bit confused about how to approach a single iron (I think!) stain in the deep end of my saltwater pool. The pool was built in the mid 1980s, used a handful of times then boarded over for decades. We bought the house in 2017, lifted off the boards, pressure...

Just wisened up to the pool shop nonsense

Thanks so much. Once their kits are back in stock I'll pick one up. What you describe about the pool shop TA makes a lot of sense!

Just wisened up to the pool shop nonsense

Hi there! I just took over the pool maintenance job after another family member became too busy. After educating myself and asking the pool shop to explain their results, I've realised they are under-reporting the total alkalinity and I'm caught in an expense buffer- pH bounce loop. After...
