    How often to vacuum?

My pool is inside a screened lanai so there is little to no debris getting in (other than pollen during season). I have been vacuuming and cleaning skimmer (which also has a sock) on a weekly basis. I feel like I am wasting my time vacuuming so often. Is there a reason that I am not aware of or...

Switching from Salt Cell to NST feeder

Thanks for all the input. I ordered the dummy by-pass tube today. Will keep a close eye on chemical numbers and keep posting on Pool Math

Switching from Salt Cell to NST feeder

So NST feeder is a system designed by Poolife complete with their own brand of tablets (of course) to use in it, you are correct as it is not designed for chlorine tablets. Not sure if any check valves need to be adjusted, pretty sure they are still the same as when pool builder set them. Only...

Switching from Salt Cell to NST feeder

So, I am not planning on closing my pool as I am in SC and I have a heater. Pool was first put into service this past February at which time PB ran the NST feeder until the temps warmed up enough to start up the salt cell. My question is do I just turn off the salt cell and leave it connected...

    Test results question

Pool has been pretty well balanced but PH creeps up to 8 (1-2 drops of R-0005 brings it to 7.6-7.8) and TA is kinda stuck around 100. Test logs are on pool math. Questions: For PH is ok to keep adding Muriatic acid every other week? Also, acid amounts called for differ on Pool math (4.5 oz) vs...

    VS pump question

One more question, if running VSP at 1700 rpm 24/7 should pump speed be increased when vacuuming for better suction?

    VS pump question

Steve, your Mark Twain quote is spot on! So if I am understanding correctly, I can run my VSP at a lower speed as long as it does not trigger the low flow without affecting the amount of chlorine generated by my SWG. In order to keep my FC at acceptable levels I need to continue adjusting the...

    VS pump question

not sure what rpm causes the flow switch to close. I'm guessing the best way is to lower the rpms until I see the flow light go off, then use that as my base. Thank you

    VS pump question

I could use some understanding of how to best set my vs pump to work best with my IC20 SWG. I currently have the VSP set to run at 2350 rpm from 6am to 6pm and 1200 rpm from 6pm to 6am. The lower speed in the evening is me trying to be economical and partially out of respect for my neighbor who...

Thank you Dave, it does prime right away

    Emptying pump filter basket

Thank you, multi valve does not have an off position just closed, not sure if that’s the same. I just wanted to make sure I was not doing any damage starting the pump back up with low water. Sounds like it’s fine.

    Emptying pump filter basket

Is there a correct way to open and empty the skimmer basket on the pump (pictures attached) after vacuuming? I turn the pump off but the lid is still very tight (pressure). Once off the water drops and I am nervous about turning the pump back on with low water. Should any of the valves be off or...

Looking to take over PB doing maintenance

Hey all, thank you again for all the support. I have succeeded in getting my CYA and Free Chlorine to acceptable range, but other numbers still seem off. This morning results: Free Chlorine = 9.5 Combined Chlorine = 0 PH = is now over 8 (was steady at 7.8) TA = 120 Calcium = 500 CYA = 70...

Looking to take over PB doing maintenance

Thank you. According to the chart, with a CYA of 70 my ideal Free Chlorine target is 5 I will continue to leave the SWG off for a little longer. Steve

Looking to take over PB doing maintenance

Thank you for all the suggestions! I have added CYA and turned off the SWG, numbers today seem better: CYA = 70 PH = 7.8 Free Chlorine 13.5 Combined Chlorine seems to come up zero? TA = 120 Free Chlorine and TA still high, should muriatic acid be added to correct or just leave salt cell off...

Looking to take over PB doing maintenance

Hi Deb, Thank you !! I messed up and multiplied by .02 not .20 free chlorine is 16.6. Once clear I put in the 5 drops of R-0003 and it barely changed. Adding R-0871 had no effect.

Looking to take over PB doing maintenance

Hey Jeff, Tried the CYA test 3 times and never had the black dot disappear?? Sorry but first time using the test kit so no not confident in readings but pretty confident I am following the directions correctly. The total Free & Combined Chlorine (FAS-DPD) number I came up with was 13.28. IC20...

Looking to take over PB doing maintenance

Jim, IC20 is running at 2300 rpm from 6:00 AM - 6:00 PM with 80% output during that time, and 1200 RPM from 6:00 PM - 6:00 AM (looks like the IC 20 shuts down during this period due to low flow). Did the CYA level test 3 times and the black dot never disappears??

Looking to take over PB doing maintenance

Hey all, so I just received my K2006-C test kit and want to take over maintenance myself. This is the first season for our new pool and while the water is crystal clear we do notice some burning in the eyes. My first shot at testing seems like some corrections are needed. So free & combined...

    Sacrificial Anode

Thank you all for the input, I just wasn't sure if it would do anything to prolong the life expectancy of any of the equipment. Seems like the answer to that would be no.
