    Hayward EC65 Check Valve Replacement

Ya, I've been thinking that I might need to destroy the elbow to get it out =( It's not an expensive part, but I was trying to avoid that - I don't want to risk damaging the tank since it's ~$300. The elbow itself is fine, it's just the check valve that needs replaced. I also don't know how hard...

    Hayward EC65 Check Valve Replacement

There's a little extra bit on mine that is behind the tab - I don't see it on your pictures, but it's part of the elbow. You can see it in my picture next to the word "press". I've been using small locking pliers to pull the tab back to that. There's really no way to get anything under the...

    Hayward EC65 Check Valve Replacement

Ya, I can read, thanks - it's in, like, 20pt raised font, all caps. Hard to miss. Hurts my hand when trying to lift because the raised text digs into my hand. I push in the tab - it's pushed in enough to clear the clip. But no amount of lifting will get the Dang thing to budge. But thanks for...

    Hayward EC65 Check Valve Replacement

No luck - that thing still won't budge. Do I need to remove the union ball connector on the outside of the tank before I can remove this elbow? If so, is there anything I need to know about removing it? From the diagram in the manual, it looks like it just screws into the tank - I'm guessing...

    Hayward EC65 Check Valve Replacement

Thanks! That looks promising. I'll see if I can find some locally today and, if not, order from Amazon and report back how it goes =)

    Hayward EC65 Check Valve Replacement

Any advice for loosening it? It literally shows zero signs of moving no matter what I do =(

    Hayward EC65 Check Valve Replacement

The check valve in my Hayward EC65 is broken. From the diagram in the manual, it looks like all I need to do is remove this elbow and the valve is in there - easier said than done! This thing won't budge. I can pull back the tab no problem, but no matter how hard I pull up: nothing. I've tried...

    Vinyl liner cracking

Ya, I've heard from two installers that the temperature needs to be 65F or higher to do the install. So, I'm hoping they can do it before the weather falls below that.

    Vinyl liner cracking

That's what I'm thinking, too. I have an estimate from a company that sounds confident that they can get it in before the weather turns, but Pittsburgh weather is completely unpredictable - due to backlogs, we'd be looking at an installation sometime in October, probably mid to late October...

    Vinyl liner cracking

Ya, it's cracking above the normal water line (so, well above where the water will be when I close). See the picture attached in the first post - there's a tear about 2 inches by a quarter inch and a couple smaller tears (around an inch by 1/16th-1/8th). Probably 5 or 6 tears total, plus a ton...

    Vinyl liner cracking

My vinyl liner is cracking - it's about 10 years old. Trying to decide if I should try to get it replaced now before winter, or next spring. Worried that by the time a liner is made, it'll be too cold to get it installed properly - everyone has a backlog so it'll be several weeks. But also...

    First Time Closing

Hello again, TFP... closing isn't too far off and I want to make sure I have everything. This is my first pool - came with the house I just bought about two months ago. I've read through the closing doc in the Pool School, and a ton of posts here in the forums. I have a couple questions. Here's...

New Pool Owner: Questions regarding Hayward Perflex DE filter

Ok, I think I’ve finally got the filter under control... my dad and I disassembled it and cleaned it over the weekend - pressure has been holding steady around 12 psi for a couple days now, so, that’s a big load off my shoulders... Got my tf test kit, too - numbers aren’t great: FC: 3.5 CC: 0...

New Pool Owner: Questions regarding Hayward Perflex DE filter

When backwashing my filter, would it be possible to drain into something like a garbage can? The layout of my house + pool prevent me from running a hose to a convenient place - best I can do is drain onto my driveway. If I could drain into a garbage can (with wheels), I could just roll it...

New Pool Owner: Questions regarding Hayward Perflex DE filter

Purchased a TF kit last night - hopefully won't take long to get here. In the meantime, I'm just going to babysit the filter during the day (luckily I work from home) and turn it off at night - no sense leaving it on overnight since the water flow drops to near zero after about 2 hours and the...

New Pool Owner: Questions regarding Hayward Perflex DE filter

Thanks, @DorsalSpine... I'm stuck in a meeting that's running late =( Planning on calling as soon as it's over - hopefully soon!

New Pool Owner: Questions regarding Hayward Perflex DE filter

Thanks for the reply, @MITBeta. I'm definitely going to try to find a test kit tonight. Do you know if it's possible to find a good test kit at local stores, or will I need to order online?

New Pool Owner: Questions regarding Hayward Perflex DE filter

I found a pdf about the safety of the cleaner, and, according to it, the filter cleaner contains Phosphoric acid, hydrogen chloride, and some "trade secret".

New Pool Owner: Questions regarding Hayward Perflex DE filter

Thanks @mknauss... as I said, I think I've got the chemicals worked out, but I'll check into that test kit. @DorsalSpine: I would love if you could walk me through the process! This last time I backwashed, I added about 5lbs of DE. The label on the filter says it should have 6lbs, but I read...

New Pool Owner: Questions regarding Hayward Perflex DE filter

I just bought a house over the weekend with an in-ground pool. Unfortunately, it seems the previous owners did not maintain the pool for the last month (they moved out as soon as we had a contract signed and closing took 35 days). When I moved in, the water looked mostly ok - slightly cloudy...
