Thanks for that advice, the new pump I've selected is recommended for solar use

    Replacement Solar heating pump

Thanks, from a bit more googling I reckon my pump is rated at 200 litres a minute at 5m head and a 0.5 hp pump rates the same as this so I reckon this would be a good replacement

    Replacement Solar heating pump

Thanks, those pumps tend to be larger and intended as the main pool pump, and also much more expensive. My solar pump runs on a separate circuit and is much smaller in size to the main pump. I think it's around 0.5hp

    Replacement Solar heating pump

Hi, Despite attempting repairs my solar heating pump is dead and needs replacing. The solar heating is the black tubing type on the garage roof and is VERY old and I've repaired it several times over the years to fix leaks. Currently no leaks 😀 I don't know the model or specs of the pump...

Thanks, I have since managed to get it apart with a big hammer 😁

    Trouble replacing Davey pump bearing

I'm trying to replace the bearing on a Davey solar pump. As you can see in the photo I've got the impeller off but can't get this cover off to access the bearing. I've tried tapping it out from behind thought the wiring hole but it won't budge. Is there a trick to removing this plate? I've...

Advice on how to bed tiles correctly

Thanks, I think this is the method I will use with Sikaflex.

Advice on how to bed tiles correctly

Bond beam looks fine and all tiles are still adhered very well. Just worried if I leave the area underneath hollow there is risk of them breaking when walked on.

Advice on how to bed tiles correctly

I understand what your saying. Unfortunately I cannot rectify the expansion gap. All I can do is bed in new tiles as before but they are going to sit over the coping slightly by about an inch. Should I use some Sikaflex under this area to fill the void whilst retaining some flexibility for movement?

Advice on how to bed tiles correctly

The pool is concrete if that makes a difference? The deck has sunk slightly in that area which is what has caused the tiles to crack as they sit over the coping slightly. The rest of the tiling is ok. I will need to build up the area where the tile sits over the coping so there is not a hollow...

Advice on how to bed tiles correctly

Thanks, so this confirms I should only bed the tiles to the deck, not to the coping? There will be a gap beneath the tile where the coping is if I do this. Is there a suitable product I can use to fill this gap and allow movement?

Advice on how to bed tiles correctly

I'm undertaking a task of replacing some cracked and loose terracotta tiles around our pool. The issue has been caused by the surrounding paving sinking over many years. The pool is around 30 years old so I am not overly concerned this is a serious issue, just age related, and I just want to...

    Pool math temp Celcius/Fahrenheit issue

Thanks, yes I do track water temp and do enter it in Celcius. But in the CSI tab it still defaults to Fahrenheit. I'm just wondering if this is affecting my CSI?

    Pool math temp Celcius/Fahrenheit issue

When I go into my CSI tab it is showing degrees in Fahrenheit. When I select Celcius it won't save this setting and always reverts back to Fahrenheit.

    Caretaking pool, levels way out

Day 7. I opened the filter and removed about an inch of crust from the surface and gave it a deep clean. I doubt it has ever been opened since last sand change which is unknown but I suspect many many years ago, if ever. Hopefully this will improve filtration and get the last bit of clarity...

    Caretaking pool, levels way out

Alright, day 5 and the pool has cleared up a lot. It is still no perfect but I can now see the main drain and also can see the brush head at the bottom when I am brushing. Considering doing an OCLT tonight and if it passes then I will work on balancing the rest of the levels and letting the...

    Caretaking pool, levels way out

It's definitely a milky looking cloudiness. Is it normal to take many days to filter it out running the filter constantly? I am not sure of the condition of the sand filter. I have backwashed it twice now, tempted to open it up and attempt a deep clean.

    Caretaking pool, levels way out

Haha I thought I would get that reply. 45,000 litres (12,000 gal) I added 1.5kg of Stabilizer, calculated to approx 30ppm. I haven't tested since I added as I want it to fully dizzolve. Targeting Chlorine 12ppm minimum

    Caretaking pool, levels way out

Day 1, I added some stabilizer, reduced pH to 7.2 and increased chlorine to 14. brushed pool. Set pump to run 24x7 Day 2, checked and maintained chlorine, brushed pool x2, backwashed sand filter. Day 3, checked and maintaining chlorine, tested at 14. The pool has improved clarity slightly, at...

Yes that is something that he is also considering already. It will make it much more manageable. Fortunately he is only 5 minutes drive away.

    Caretaking pool, levels way out

Thanks for the advice. I decided on this plan so I'm glad your recommendation matches. I just added stabiliser to target 30ppm, acid to target 7.2 and some Chlorine to get me through the night. Tomorrow I will retest and begin SLAM if levels dictate I can commence.

    Caretaking pool, levels way out

I've been asked to caretake my father's pool while he is away for a week. His pool has always been cloudy in the times I have seen it so I've decided to do a water test while he is away and try to address the issue and have it clear by the time he returns. I will preface this by saying my...
