    Aqualink Clarification

Hi all! I have an Aqualink RS 2.0 system that is controlling a Pentair Mastertemp 400 heater. I am looking for clarification on exactly what to expect when in spa mode. I understand that the controller and its temperature sensor are controlling the heater. The heater is set to 104 so it...

Water Leak from DE Filter Control Valve

My control valve needed to be replaced. I ordered the valve and installed it. Since the pump can be on either side of the valve, it has two potential inlets and one plug. The plug I received fit very loosely, but the company said that was common and that the glue would work just fine. Well...

Should I SLAM or should I go?

I did another OCLT last night and no change. It's consuming Cl fast. I will up the CYA to 50 (high end recommendation from pool math). Any other thoughts? I have had great success with TFP. This plaster change just created a big change in what I have grown accustomed to seeing.

Should I SLAM or should I go?

Hello everyone! I just completed replacing the plaster in my pool with a pebble surface. It looks amazing! The job has been done for nearly two months, so I am out of my "curing" window. As a part of the work, a pool company was hired to monitor/maintain the pool while it was curing (first...

    Advice on a New Heater

I have a 7-8 year old Hayward H400 pool heater that started blowing steam out of the vent this season. I took that as a bad sign... Today is the first day that I've been able to take an outside look at the unit. What I noticed was that the outside metal panel below the water intake/outlet has...

    FC testing post-Jack's #2 Copper

Just so I'm not guessing - that would be 3-7ppm for FC? I'm assuming 20 is too high :)

    FC testing post-Jack's #2 Copper

Since there is a spa attached, at what point is it safe again to use the spa? Or am I closed for the season???

    FC testing post-Jack's #2 Copper

TF100 It's taking 40 drops for FC test and 60 for the CC to clear. SOP. I've tested it twice with similar results. I'm running out of reagents! The water is way too cold for any algae growth, so should I leave it alone for a week and see what happens? This Jacks#2 stuff is my source of CC.

    FC testing post-Jack's #2 Copper

So I need a sanity check. I've been SLAMing now for about a week, adding bleach at least twice a day to get my FC=24. After a week, I am now getting: FC=20 CC=30 I'm about to add bleach to get back to 24. I seem to be feeding the CC monster! That said, I have been adding less over time to...

Made an error during SLAM - Need advice

I am in the midst of SLAMing the pool I took a pH test and noticed it was super high. What I didn't realize is that the test is unreliable. The pH was 7.5 when I started. So, I added a bunch of acid to bring it down-which I don't believe was necessary. I expect that I'm somewhere around...

    FC testing post-Jack's #2 Copper

Got it! Thanks for the link to the post. One more question before I begin the SLAM process. Do high CL levels breakdown the sequesterant (The Purple Stuff) and re-release the metal into the water? If so, should I perform a filter change prior to SLAM? My copper source is our fill water, but...

    FC testing post-Jack's #2 Copper

According to their website and instructions: TIP: This treatment can produce false free chlorine readings for 3-4 weeks; use the total chlorine reading during this time My understanding is that it is a false reading, not necessarily consuming the FC; that said, it's been more than the 3-4...

    FC testing post-Jack's #2 Copper

I completed a Jack's #2 Copper treatment in late October when the water temperature was in the 70's. Shortly after it was completed, we had a cold snap and it dropped the pool temperature quickly below 65 degrees, and it's not 52 degrees. The instructions from Jack's was that post-treatement...

Some Winter Advice (since it's here already!)

Easttn - When I run the numbers on poolmath, I get -.67, which is likely to cause... I may have misunderstood recommendations for my other posts, but this approach was recommended because my plaster has been suffering from metal copper staining. Keeping pH a bit lower (and ultimately CSI)...

Some Winter Advice (since it's here already!)

Hi all! I live in Austin, Texas and like nearly everywhere, we have been plunged into winter early. While we don't need to winterize our pools, I do need to do a winter change over, and this year, since I added an acid doser, I have some options which I am seeking some direction. During the...

How to do a big rise in TA

I agree with keeping it low. I keep it at 50-60 because I dose acid regularly to combat pH drift from SWG and that has a TA erosion effect. No higher than 60 for me. Everything's lookin great. TA at 50 and I'm about to swap out acid in doser with bleach for the winter. SWG won't be effective...

How to do a big rise in TA

ive just completed a Jacks copper removal program and I've been slowly bringing the water back in balance. Here are today's measurements: TC 3 pH 7.3 TA 20 Borates 40 CH 400 (same as source) Temp 68 CA 40 Pool math suggests 9# of baking soda to get me to 60. That's a lot! Any suggestions on...

Stain Help - I'm Not Giving Up, but need HELP

Initially, it might have drifted up to 8.0, but a month or so ago I added an Stenner acid doser which pumps 15oz MA per day, and it's been a steady 7.2-7.4 pH ever since. I just had both the pool and tap water tested for copper. The pool water came in at @.3-.5ppm and the tap water was well...

Stain Help - I'm Not Giving Up, but need HELP

The pool is just under 7-years-old. I don't believe the copper is coming from within the system. I'm pure BBB and I've never had to even slam the pool since the refill and no algicides have even been added. Also, I did take a samples of water from both my pool and fill source and both showed...

Stain Help - I'm Not Giving Up, but need HELP

I agree that it is unusual, and it could have very well came from my fill, assuming a spike as you indicated. I will get the kit to test the water myself. I can treat it using Jack's, but until I identify the source and can prevent whatever it is from happening again, I won't move forward...

Stain Help - I'm Not Giving Up, but need HELP

Hello again! I'm nearing round 3 with some sort of staining on my pool surface. 6 months ago I had the pool acid washed and it looked awesome. Now, after working the BBB method, I'm getting incredible staining/scale??? It's spreading like wildfire and is worse than ever. Here's the...

    SWG vs non SWG

Colorado stone and SWG have been a bad mix for us. Years 1-3 not much. In year 6 now and I would not do it again. I will have to replace all of the coping in a couple of years. I'm in Austin. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Experience with AA & a couple questions (Sorry for the long post)

As for the metal stains, I don't believe AA will work on copper. You should test the stains to know for certain what you're dealing with to ensure the best outcomes. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Another Happy Stenner Customer - acid dilution vs run-time

Using the recommendations from this forum, I added a stenner acid doser to keep the pH down. After some quick calculations and testing, I was able to dial in the stenner in the first attempt. The pH hasn't budged in a week (although I still can't help myself from checking it everyday)! I do...

    AA Treatment Questions

I have completed the vitamin C tablet test and it appears as if I have stains. I have read the instructions for completing a AA cleaning, but I have a couple of questions before I start down this path. 1. My pool temp is 84 degrees (which should speed up the process), but in the Texas heat...
