    ph Question

Also, I have a question about testing the TA. Do you stop adding drops when the solution turns to a dark brownish color or on the next drop which turns it an obvious red? For example, at 10 drops the mixture slightly goes red but then quickly goes back to green. After 11 drops I swirl, it turns...

    ph Question

Fill water ph is 8.3 and TA is 170. I'll keep at and see how the TA goes. After initial slamming TA was around 150 in May, then 140 in June and as most recently120. I'll keep at it, thanks for the confirmation that everything is as expected.

    ph Question

I came here back in May and my pool has been doing great ever since refilling and Slamming. I had a question about PH though. It seems to rise rather quickly. Is this due to simply dumping liquid chlorine in the pool? For example I measured my Ph on 6/28 in the morning and it was more purple...

Best Places to Buy Liquid Chlorine

$3.50/gal before tax for 12.5% is the best I could find in a 10 mile radius around east Long Beach. Anyone else around Long Beach/socal have a better price?

Thanks. I've started to notice it's around 4ppm in 24 hours. This is without swimming. Just wrapping my head around adding about 2qts of chlorine every day. But at least the water is super nice now. Just tested it out today and it feels great! I'm not sure if one can "feel" 400 levels of CYA but...

Amount of CYA in 3" Trichlor Tabs

I've read that a tablet of trichlor is about 50-55% CYA. Around 7oz a piece that is 3.5oz of "dry CYA stabilizer?" In the poolmath app there is a section for CYA. It allows you to select dry stabilizer and liquid stabilizer. Can we use the fact that there is 3.5oz of CYA in a puck as a method...

Alright, well I took an FC reading at 10:00pm last night FC - 13.5 CC - 0.5. I woke up at 6:00am today and the FC had stayed the same still at 13.5. First light is around 5:30am. I'm happy I have a new pool with WAY lower and manageable CYA. I wonder what my FC loss per day is going to...

Taking over pool duties. CYA 500+

So my readings from last night were 15 FC at 8:00pm and 12.5 FC at 7:00am. Sunsets around 8:00 and rises at 6:00. The previous test I did where there was only 0.5FC loss was from 10:00pm to 6:00am. What times should I be doing the OCLT exactly? Direct sunlight doesn't hit the pool until maybe...

Hmm, No I have not cleaned the niche. Is it pretty intensive? It's ok to get in the pool with high chlorine? The light is pretty deep acutally.

Thanks! I have a Hayward 4820 DE filter. I've read that you have to watch the filter pressure when using the phosphate remover. My taking over the pool all started in early April when I got furloughed and I had plenty of time at home. The pool guy said it's time to clean the filter and it's $98...

Sounds good. Gave it a hard brush and it did distort the clarity some. I just put another gallon in. FC was at 11, CC 0.5 at 1:30 pm today. 2.5ppm loss from 6:30 am. Pool gets a lot of sun. That should bump me back up around 17, I'll let the pump continue to run. Thanks again!

I took a reading of the chlorine at 10:00 pm last night before I went to bed. It was at FC 14 and CC 0.5. I woke up this morning to take a reading at 6:00 am. FC had only dropped 0.5 to 13.5. CC remains at 0.5. (y) Water is very clear and even getting bluer than yesterday. We don't remember...

Wow, so that was quick! After waiting a few hours after adding 2.5 qts muriatic acid the ph moved from 8.0 to 7.2 no problem! WIth my previous numbers my TA was so high (270-290) I put in 1.5 gallons over a few weeks and it only moved ph from 8.3 to 7.8. Happy to know I can use less MA with my...

    Muriatic Acid Question

Welp just got off the phone with HASA Socal representative. They said they recently got a batch of muriatic acid from Texas where they don't dye the acid. She said it's the same product but in California they dye it yellow and in Texas it is clear and undyed.

    Muriatic Acid Question

Yeah, I've accidentally inhaled a bit before so I'm scared to do the whiff test. I put a test strip in there and it turned bright yellow. The box was completely sealed, the jugs had the tamper-proof seal under the caps.

Ok, so pool finished filling last night. I woke up this morning to test some numbers. Luckily my CYA was where it needs to be. I was worried I wasn't draining enough so I went down pretty far. Maybe 90-95% drain. Two 1/6hp pumps working for 36 hours, I called it at 12:30 am the night prior...

    Muriatic Acid Question

I've just started taking over my pool 2 months ago. In the middle of a SLAM right now. I had a question about muriatic acid. I had bought some a few months ago and out of the box it was yellow. I just picked some up today and it's perfectly clear. Is this normal? Was the yellow batch I bought...

Ok a few questions about the SLAM. The video says to lower ph to 7.2, but then says, "Until SLAM is complete, forget about ph." ??? I've done my testing on the fill water. CC is 2.2 PH is 8.0+ The water is clear green. I have no way to test if it is Iron. Ok so let me know if this is...

So I'm in the process of draining and refilling my pool. I decided to test the fill water coming from the spigot next to the pool. I was surprised it was so alkaline. It looks like this is common. Here are my results. I first did an Aquacheck 7 and then followed up with the Taylor Test kit. CH...

Thanks for posting that. I doubled checked Long Beach's requirements for drainage. It mentioned periodic draining to the storm drain if the pool water is dechlorinated as ok. They don't mention a fine but require a full drain to a sewer which we are doing. Thanks for the vote of confidence!

Thanks everyone for your help. If 1:4 dilution-multiplier 5 means 1 part pool water and 4 parts tap then i did 1 part pool and 3 parts pool so multiplier would be 4. Either way I’m around 400. I think I will drain and refill this weekend. I will report back with new numbers.
