    Need design advice regarding slopes

I love your area. I also like spaces with differing heights to add interest. If you decide to keep with your original plan, I would definitely cut a walkway through your brick wall, add 2-3 wide stairs up to the pool area.

Pool Water Level with Hayward Auto Skimmer?

If no one else gets back to you tonight, in the morning I'll go measure the distance from the top of my coping to the middle of the skimmer and another measurement from the bottom of the coping to mid-skimmer. 11" seems excessive to me but the picture of the measuring tape held against the wood...

    Any PoolValet experts out there?

My pool has what I estimate to be the original PoolValet system installed. For my purposes, the PoolValet system works great. I mostly get fine sand/dust in the pool and this keeps it quite clean. Larger debris is another story... Anyway, the reason I'm here is because I'd like to find out if...

I'm confused - Why will a water refill cost $1,000 if you use your well water?

    FAST CYA Dissolving method

Interesting theory. I wonder if anyone has ever tried to boil CYA into water to see if that speeds things up?

    Energy efficiency

Thanks Bo. I do not have any water features, but I do have an in-floor cleaning system. Not sure how a VS or 2-speed would work in that situation.

What seems to be the break even point from a KWH standpoint? My rates are tiered: First 450 are 9¢, Next 450 are 14¢ and anything above that is 16¢. I use ~2200 KWH per month in the summer.

HEDP is a phosphonic acid. You should be good using the stuff you bought.

Does the Ultimate Metal Control contain HDEP? That is the most effective type of sequestrant. Try and get that pH up quickly.

Which is more important: Ph at 7.2 to prevent metal stains or at 7.6+ for SWG?

Swampwoman, thanks so much for the information. I will definitely look into the Metal Magic. I agree with you, it's nice to not have to worry about keeping your Ph so low at all times. Although I have a Stenner pump to inject the MA, I've been burning through it like mad. I will keep everyone...

About to get a Sport Pool. Will my daughter hate me? Am I just Cheap?

Re: Sport Pool? Am I just being cheap? Will my kid hate me? My pool is a sport pool 4'-5.5'-4' I would not do 3' at all - you are correct that it is just too shallow. I'll start off by saying there hasn't been a single person who didn't have fun in the pool. No one has ever complained about...

    Spa interior deteriorating?

Magenta is for pool start up. Pink stuff more aggressive with iron stains Blue stuff does same as Pink stuff but is more aggressive with copper stains Purple stuff - for salt water pools Since you don't know what metals you have, you should go with the Blue stuff since it covers the most...

    Spa interior deteriorating?

LOL Ok. The test kit you need to start with is the stain identifier: Amazon.com: JACK Garden Once you identify the type of metal causing the stain, you then use the appropriate treatment (ascorbic acid for iron stains or copper treatment for copper stains.) Next, once the stains are out...

Which is more important: Ph at 7.2 to prevent metal stains or at 7.6+ for SWG?

Thanks Chemgeek for that explanation. I didn't understand why I upset you, and I do understand your frustration with those who don't listen. I am not among them. I also appreciate your advice that -0.3 CSI is much better than -0.6 by 100%. I thought that anything between -.06 and +.06 would not...

pooldv - like I said, I'm happy to help out now that I have a handle on some of the basics. It's also nice knowing that the experts monitor all of these threads and if I've misadvised anyone, you all will step in with corrections. I know how busy everyone is this time of year responding to all...

Which is more important: Ph at 7.2 to prevent metal stains or at 7.6+ for SWG?

Chemgeek - that's why I'm asking these questions. I cannot get a clear opinion one way or the other. I read on here all the time re: Ph: anything in the 7s is fine. Then there are the specific recommendations depending on what pool type you have. And, as you can see above, everyone that has...

    Spa interior deteriorating?

Hey, I'm happy to help. So many people on this forum have helped me through the years, I'm glad I can finally give back. Five months between additions is definitely too long. I wish the PB would have told you that. I think one bottle of Magenta Stuff treats 15,000 gallons. After the initial...

    Spa interior deteriorating?

Yes, the trichlor tab is what I was referring to. If I were you, I'd purchase a metal identification kit like the Jack's Magic Stain ID Kit or search around on here for another recommended test kit. This will tell you whether you have iron or copper in the water, or none at all. It's important...

    Spa interior deteriorating?

Well, since we don't definitively know what the problem was - black algae, metal stains, or something different - it is possible that the low FC levels let some algae take hold. The other alternative is that when you let your Ph get so high, some of the metals in your water could have leached...

    Spa interior deteriorating?

With a CYA of 40, you should be maintaining a FC level of 5 at all times. There were only 2 times in your report where you were at that level. You need more chlorine. You also let your Ph get out of control (both high and low) a couple of times. I think you need to check your levels more often...

Which is more important: Ph at 7.2 to prevent metal stains or at 7.6+ for SWG?

I'm having to rely on reviews for now, but I'll let you know in a couple of weeks how well it works. It does come highly recommended.

Which is more important: Ph at 7.2 to prevent metal stains or at 7.6+ for SWG?

Oh absolutely! I was just expecting the MetalTrap to be somewhat in line with other hose filters, in the $30-$50 range. I paid $150+shipping for mine.

Joyful - Having the total control system has definitely been a learning experience. Once I mastered it, I would not do without; but for a while there, I it was driving me nuts. The Ph probe works spot on. It has always perfectly matched with my TF-100 results. The ORP is a different story...
