    Temporary water storage?

Where in Iowa are you? Got any farming friends close by? Every farmer up here has 1-6 1500gal plastic tanks for transporting water, liquid fert, etc. Usually on a truck or trailer. Plus that truck / trailer usually has 1 or 2 pumps. 3" pumps is common. Andrew

Rebuilding the pad - advice welcome

In the pic of the pad rebuild, both suction valves are closed. I'm hoping that when you have been testing, you tried opening one suction valve - water? Then close it and open other suction valve - water? Next idea: Got a shop vac? Use the blower side of the shop vac to blow air into each...

Rebuilding the pad - advice welcome

Those are DWV fittings, aren't they? DWV are not designed for pressure. Looks like a narrow glue area. Andrew

Rectangular AGP - leave full for winter or empty?

Yes, I know the ice will expand up, but with the sides bowed, will they not restrain the ice from moving up? Andrew

Rectangular AGP - leave full for winter or empty?

Note location - Manitoba, Canada. Everything freezes solid!! In the past, I have always drained down the pool (16 ft x 32 ft - see signature) so that there was 6-8 inches in it so the chlorine puck floaters could move around until it turns into a solid block. That enabled me to disconnect...

Above Ground Hayward Skimmer Model SP1091WM what size are External Threads

Use the SP1500xxxx series instead. I've seen it with a few different letter/number combinations where the "xxxx" is. The exact kit that I ordered was SP1500UNPAK2C which came with a fitting for 1 1/2" internal or 2" external PVC pipe. As you can see, I used a 2" 45º on mine. I think I remember...

AGP - Drained Yearly - Muriatic Acid ???

Got the pool filled this week and it turns out that the well water this year is not as high in TA compared to previous years. I am starting out at a TA of 300 (vs 450-500 in past years). I am crediting this (rightly or wrongly) to filling other storage tanks on the farm first which may have...

AGP - Drained Yearly - Muriatic Acid ???

Almost all pool manufacturers state that pools should be dismantled and taken down for winter. Here's a youtube showing how these pools look when only partly full: Likely filling ours this weekend as it is finally warming up. The snow/ice block has melted and my moto is "maintain it, or drain...

AGP - Drained Yearly - Muriatic Acid ???

I guess the other point is that I know of a ton of folks who have not discovered TFP that simply use a chlorine puck floater and that's it. To them, it isn't a big deal because they are draining the pool after 3-4 months anyway. And then start with new water the next year. I'd be tempted to...

AGP - Drained Yearly - Muriatic Acid ???

In 2021, CH ran in the 100-125 range all year. This is a rectangular pool. Draining water to just below the pump connections causes the walls to bow in fairly extreme. I felt that draining more water would be better than leaving it half full. Yes/no? I put braces between the top rails to help...

AGP - Drained Yearly - Muriatic Acid ???

Hello All, Haven't been on TFP since last season, as our Canadian Prairie winters aren't too conducive to outdoor pools for some reason... I first found out about TFP in 2019 or 2020. Used the TFP method in 2020 and loved it. Added a salt cell for 2021 and had even less chemicals to handle -...

    Another cold winter ?????

Dear Texas, Saw this in the news. Sorry. Signed, Canada "La Nina is now confirmed in the Pacific in 2021-22. Europe & North America can expect another savage winter." *Winter 2021/2022* Final seasonal forecast shows the colder than expected La Nina having a strong influence as we head...

To drain or not to drain....winterizing an Intex Ultra Frame XTR

Up here, our pool turns into a giant ice cube for 6 months. I've never left it full or half full, although some friends up here have with their 18ft round. I'm worried what might happen to the liner/walls of my 16x32 if I left it right full. Same at even half full, especially with how much...

Help finding and repairing a leak in the lines...

If there's 4 highly suspect spots, and the pipe is only (approx) 1 foot below ground, I'd just dig those 4 up and see what's there. Mark ALL the tent pegs just in case those 4 don't provide answers. Keep digging until you find it. Andrew

Tiny pool, solar panels, is the pump too powerful?

We use ice skates in the winter..... Andrew

SWG newbie - will I need 820 lbs of salt?

Perhaps. But also, I drain mine for the winter. Fresh water every spring. To date, I have only left 6-8 inches in to freeze over winter. So, 85% new water each spring. Lots up here just unhook the hoses and let that much drain. That would mean I'd only have to refill 50% or so. I might try that...

In my case, no. All the garden hose bibs (3) are all direct off the well. Andrew

SWG newbie - will I need 820 lbs of salt?

Yeah, drinking the well water is doable in a hurry, but we have distillers in both houses for drinking/cooking. Can definitely tell when there is something wrong with the distiller!! Don't need much soap in the shower though! Very soft water! No water softener. Just an iron filter. Andrew

Tiny pool, solar panels, is the pump too powerful?

No idea what your sun is like there. But I bet it's a lot more than mine up here! I usually run my solar 8am-8pm. At 8am, the water coming out starts off hot, so I know the panels have already absorbed some heat. But after running 5min, the water coming out is almost the same temp as going in...

SWG newbie - will I need 820 lbs of salt?

I went for the actual pool salt. Locally, it was only $1 per bag higher than softener salt. And some of the softener salt I saw had additives listed to "clean your water softener" "extend your water softener" etc. So I chickened out and spent the extra $1/bag. My well water is 1400ppm salt out...

Will this equipment setup play nice?

If each skimmer / drain / return is plumbed seperate in 1.5" pvc, you should be good. If the pump can handle a 2" inlet (or 2.5") then I'd put a valve on each suction and tee them together in a larger header (2" or 2.5"). Then 2" (or 2.5") to the pump. Same on the output side - keep the largest...

Tiny pool, solar panels, is the pump too powerful?

It should be slightly warmer, but I suppose if the water is super fast, you may not notice the temperature increase. Another option would be to plumb a bypass so that you can run the pump and filter without the solar panels. If you had that, you could crack the bypass valve slightly. That...

A/C Heat Exchanger to Heat Pool - DIY Questions

Why would the pool pump have to run every time? If the pool pump doesn't run when the A/C kicks in, then the normal cooling in the A/C unit would draw the heat out of the refrigerant and A/C would still work. If the pool pump is running, then it can draw some of the heat first. Similarly, the...

    It’s leaking!!!!!

I think I found a manual for it: https://images-eu.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/C1XRD26zxLS.pdf It has a breakdown of parts and part numbers. Looks like the pump/motor is all one piece though. Andrew
