Increased combined chlorine despite low overall chlorine consumption

Ha ha!! Me, too!! Yeah, I’ve been using the same one for over 2 years…and have never cleaned it. 😬I have always just rinsed it out. Oops. Well, now I know! 😜

Increased combined chlorine despite low overall chlorine consumption

Well, you were right. It was the dirty beaker that needed to be cleaned out. Combined chlorine came down to 0.5 ppm after that. I got an Amazon and ordered a new one. It’s time. I’m hoping with the brand new beaker, my CC will be zero! Thank you so much! You saved me $$$ to not have to buy a...

Increased combined chlorine despite low overall chlorine consumption

Oh, good idea. I have not cleaned out my beaker and honestly haven’t even thought about it till now. 😜🤦🏼‍♀️ I’ll bet that’s probably what the issue is. We do not cover the pool. And it is in full sun most all of the day. I think our SWG is a Pentair IC-40. I’ll update my signature with that. I...

Increased combined chlorine despite low overall chlorine consumption

Hi guys!! Thanks for all the wealth of great info on this site. My pool has been in virtually immaculate condition for the three summers we’ve had it now. My husband and I have been completely managing it on our own with the help of Trouble Free Pools! That being said, I now have a question. We...

    Cloudy/hazy pool

Well, it appears the issue has resolved on its own. 🙌🏻 Whew!! Made me nervous! A few days later, it’s as clear as it always was. 🤷🏼‍♀️

    Cloudy/hazy pool

If it doesn’t clear up on its own in the next couple of days, I could try that next. Thanks!

    Cloudy/hazy pool

I run the pump 24/7 anyway, so that’s covered. I’ll definitely keep a close eye on chemistry over the next few days.

    Cloudy/hazy pool

Thank you!!! I’m hoping it’s just some sort of weird fluke that’ll resolve in the next day or 2. 🤷🏼‍♀️

    Cloudy/hazy pool

Hi guys! Thanks for all the extremely helpful information over the past 2 years that we’ve owned our pool. So, our sand filter developed a leak which got repaired today. When I came home from work, I went outside to net out the pool and noticed it was cloudy. Not extremely cloudy, just slightly...

Please explain brushing a plaster pool

Probably the same looks I get when I ask a house cleaner if she’d just clean my showers! 🤣

Air bubbles coming out of one return

See reply in separate post. I forgot to attach it to this.

Air bubbles coming out of one return

Our pump is currently running 24/7 at 2500 rpm. There is a fairly large air bubble at the top of the pump basket (see pic attached). I’m also attaching a pic of the tiny air bubbles that are coming out of that one return.

Air bubbles coming out of one return

So, I just recently noticed a new issue with one of my pool returns. Small air bubbles are coming out of it. The sand filter seems to be watertight all the way to the top of the water pressure gauge. I’m not exactly sure what’s going on, or if this is even a problem. Please advise. Thanks in...

    Plaster and chemistry

Honestly, we didn’t do anything about it. It’s my understanding it’s just something that happens sometimes, and ours doesn’t seem horrible, so we’re just living with it. 🤷🏼‍♀️

    Thank you!! I bought it!

    Chlorine demand in winter

I see. My test reads within the color ranges, as I Never let my free chlorine get over 7.5(ish). I use a test kit that reads up to 10 ppm, though. That being said, I went ahead and bought the FAS-DPD test that Mknauss suggested. 👍🏻

    Chlorine demand in winter

Yes!! I’m surprised, too. I do keep the pool cleaned out really well. And we’ve had a lot of cold and cloudy days. So, I guess that’s why. Our demand is just really low. I FINALLY the other day put some bleach in the pool. Our chlorine got down to 3-4. With a CYA of around 60, I decided to add...

    Chlorine demand in winter

I think Mknauss was correct when he said our salt generator is likely producing just enough chlorine while we’ve been using the spa. We’ve used it several times this winter. And the salt generator must be kicking on while the water is warmer running through there. I’ve read the ABCs of pool...

    Chlorine demand in winter

I have an IntelliCenter. It just shows (in the app) 15% of chlorine generation (that was what I had it set to at the end of summer/beginning of fall while the weather was cooling off and chlorine consumption was falling off). I haven’t changed it since then. I think Mknauss was right...when the...

    Chlorine demand in winter

No, we didn’t turn the SWG off. It just says “cold water.” I didn’t even think of that scenario. That’s a good point. 🤔 Maybe we’re using the spa just enough to keep a small amount of chlorine being generated via the SWG. That sounds like a good little side effect of using the spa every now and...
