a few questions, water temp and backwashing

I have found that full sun can really do a number on pool temp, but that is a big delta between air and water temp. The cover will help with heat retention for sure. I bought a cheap thermometer for the pool as I didn‘t trust the temp sensors in the plumbing. With respect to backwashing, only do...

Multiport valve handle extremely hard to turn

Mine became really hard to turn and the cause was a cracked washer. I was able to see the crack beneath the handle so I ordered a new one and watched a YouTube video on how to replace. I added a little magic lube when replacing. Now good as new.

Basic Question on SWG and additional chlorine needed

One thing to pay attention to is heavy swimmer load. I was cruising along last summer and became complacent with testing. Thought I had everything dialed in properly, but then a couple of weeks of heavy swimmer activity wreaked havoc on FC and I found myself performing a late summer SLAM to rid...

    Liner question

I have similar lines. I don’t particularly like them but I don’t think it’s anything to worry about.

New Pool owner from Middle TN

Welcome aboard. I’m also in middle TN and was clueless about caring for a pool 15 months ago. I ordered the recommended kits, read every article in Pool School (some multiple times), got the PoolMath app, asked some very amateur questions on here, and did as I was told. I now know my pool and...

    Hayward Heater/ProLogic Question

After a LO code error caused by a faulty water pressure switch and an AO code error caused by a faulty blower vacuum switch, I was able to get the old heater working again. For $50 in parts and probably a 1 hour time investment, I’m hopeful to get a little more mileage out of this 8 year old...

How often do you run your robot?

I run a couple times a week on average. I always try to remember to bring the control panel indoors when finished as I can’t imagine it’s great to leave it out in the elements.

    Not another light replacement post?!

Very nice! What LED bulb did you get?

    Pump times

Can’t answer your chlorine question since I have a SWG but I run my SS pump only 3 hours a day this time of year, going to maybe 6 hours at the peak of summer. I run it only to let the swg generate enough chlorine and to skim the surface. Works like a charm for me.

New GFCI Breaker for Pump Tripping on Startup

Since it was theorized that the breaker type (both arc and ground fault) may be the issue, I had the breaker replaced to a GFCI-only as an initial step. Knock on wood, but so far it has worked flawlessly with no trips. I'll definitely upgrade the breaker to 240v when this motor quits. Since we...

    Trouble with Pentair rebate?

I purchased in early December and received the rebate debit card in mid-March. I believe I received an approval notice a couple weeks prior to the debit card.

New GFCI Breaker for Pump Tripping on Startup

Will do. There needs to be a @JamesW in every major metropolitan area in the country. You’d be instantly hired if you were anywhere near the Nashville area. Appreciate your sound and thorough advice.

Competence is obviously a precious metal (or maybe Bitcoin) these days.

New GFCI Breaker for Pump Tripping on Startup

In my sig but heater is gas. Have one led and just replaced the other led with an incandescent because the colorlogics don’t exactly win any longevity awards. Lights are on the same circuit. I also have some funky fiber optic lights on the other circuit.

New GFCI Breaker for Pump Tripping on Startup

Agree. The folks that that apparently installed the plumbing and electric were not very competent. I’ve already had to replumb the pad because they had the salt cell pre-filter. They also had a separate pump running the slide and pulling from the same suction as the main pump. Now, no GFCI...

New GFCI Breaker for Pump Tripping on Startup

@JamesW will the other GFCIs need to be replaced as well or just the one for the pump? The lights are working fine and I haven’t fired up the heater yet to see if there are any breaker issues but will try it tomorrow.

New GFCI Breaker for Pump Tripping on Startup

Much obliged @JamesW. I was hoping I could go to 230v because I think it gives me more motor options when this one goes belly up. I’ll be making a call to a licensed electrician for sure. This is not something I desire to tackle (would rather take my 4 yo golfing with all my fingers, toes, and...

New GFCI Breaker for Pump Tripping on Startup

Would be great if it’s just an issue with the brand of breaker. Simple swap for sure to replace with a Siemens.

Sorry you are right (and I am still mojito-less). Replace all my 15 amp references with 20 amp.

New GFCI Breaker for Pump Tripping on Startup

Mojito sounding good right about now. The GFCI replaced a regular 15 amp breaker and I think that’s the right amperage for my motor but don’t know for sure. It’s just super weird that I upgrade a breaker to GFCI and it trips on startup when it never happened prior.

New GFCI Breaker for Pump Tripping on Startup

@JamesW not sure if this gives you what you need to see to determine if I have 240v. I’ll have to read up on testing continuity using multimeter. Never used one before.

New GFCI Breaker for Pump Tripping on Startup

@JamesW finally got around to further troubleshooting this and tool some photos. Looked at the bonding wire and it seems fine. Peaked inside the wiring at the panel. One of the white wires looks a little discolored. Pump breaker is at the top left. Also opened the back of pump and snapped...
