Second swim season and appear to be having issues again Holding chlorine

I decided to buy and use Leslie’s version of Poly quat. It meets all the specs I have seen on this site. I used 8 ounces and the pool was even clearer then I thought it already was. When I turned on the light that evening it was way better. Next day everything started to seem to get better. CC...

Second swim season and appear to be having issues again Holding chlorine

Ok. I am stuck. I am running at 65% for 12 hours a day and nothing has really changed I am still at 3ppm at the end of the day. I should be making enough now. We have had a lot of rain and pool has been draining out of the overflow but today I had a good while with no rain and pump running. I...

Second swim season and appear to be having issues again Holding chlorine

That is true. They are still at the 1-3ppm thinking. When they found my pool at 6ppm one day they told me not to swim. I guess the no higher than 35% would keep me in between 1-3 so It does now make sense why they were pushing that never thought of it that way.

Second swim season and appear to be having issues again Holding chlorine

I test my stabilizer every two weeks. I don’t know if the rain has pushed everything out of whack and not allowing the system to hold chlorine or if I do have a problem. Salt system says it’s getting close to the minimum. I am just really at a loss why no matter what changes I make I can’t make...

Second swim season and appear to be having issues again Holding chlorine

Running at 55% for two full days at 12 hours. Have had some rain both days and today I checked level and I am 2ppm. So I added 4 cups of liquid and set system to 65%. Seems something still maybe off somewhere. I feel I am losing more then I should. looks Like I may end up needing salt and...

Second swim season and appear to be having issues again Holding chlorine

Ok. Adjusted pump to run 7am until 7pm at 55%. Lowered my RPMs from 2800 to 2650 to see how this goes. Didn’t seem to be gaining last test this afternoon still sitting at 3-3.5ppm. Will see what end of day does. And the 12 hour time tomorrow does at 55%

This is my goal now changing to 8am to 7pm. That will get me through the peak sun.

Second swim season and appear to be having issues again Holding chlorine

Partly due to the first year issues. It seemed the more I ran the pump and higher I ran the cell I began to have tons of small white flakes. So I didn’t want to repeat that. Now knowing what I know I think that was related to the pool curing from construction as I had high PH, TA and CH was...

Second swim season and appear to be having issues again Holding chlorine

Sure would hate to see what it is without stabilizer and a screen. I guess I am not far off. Better than adding liquid chlorine I suppose. Bigger cell is my thoughts for later.

So am I normal in amount of loss per day? If I am losing normal amount then I can see it’s just a run time or system % issues.

Second swim season and appear to be having issues again Holding chlorine

Last year I was fighting the “new pool” so my CH, TA and PH were all high. I have had very little scale showing up on cell since during cleaning have only acid washed once. i adjusted run time to start at 8am and run until 7pm left at 55% for now. Rough math it seems I am losing like 2ppm a...

Second swim season and appear to be having issues again Holding chlorine

I raised system to 55% yesterday. Was going to add an hour or two to run time but I didn’t want to start producing the flakes again. I am guessing this little pool gets hit harder than I expect

Second swim season and appear to be having issues again Holding chlorine

I added the liquid to get the pool to roughly 5ppm about 30 min after pump shut off. Wasn’t dark but no direct sun. Pump doesn’t run at night so the sun was up this am and system off. Looks like I lost call it a even 1 in over 12 hours. I felt the salt cell was bad last year but it was brand new...

Second swim season and appear to be having issues again Holding chlorine

Still looks like I am passing loss test. So if I manually raise chlorine with liquid or shock it holds. After a day or so it drops. So is it I need to run cya higher, pump longer or higher cell settings than 55%? Builder says it should run 8-9 hours and usually no higher than 35% as cell is...

Second swim season and appear to be having issues again Holding chlorine

Last one I did the other day I seem to be passing. Unless my stabilizer test is not correct when I read it I have no idea why it does this. No real place for algae to hide. Cleaned my skimmer basin, baskets brushed and vacuumed. Been a couple weeks since I washed filter down. It gets to the...

Second swim season and appear to be having issues again Holding chlorine

I do my own testing with your kit weekly. I took it in as a check as I felt one of my reagents were not working. The CC test always seemed to show 0. With the loss of chlorine I felt that wasn’t right. So I had a test run to see how my tests were doing. Everything was spot on except the CC test...

Second swim season and appear to be having issues again Holding chlorine

Pump run time is 9 hours. Starts up At 9am and runs until 6pm. I know with the heat and sun I have to run higher but have been told that I shouldn’t have to run above 35-40, this is true when the temps are lower. I have been at 45 for about 2 weeks. I added the non chlorine stuff as since I was...

Second swim season and appear to be having issues again Holding chlorine

So last year was a mess, months of fighting my chlorine until I found this site. After slamming it seemed to be on track for awhile and I was able to keep FC at level per app. Well as season starts again I find myself having to run cell at 45% or higher to just keep 3-4 usually 3. I appear to...

    Adjusted TA for CYA

I wanted to make sure nothing got in the pool during a cleaning of the house and deck. Normally pay no attention to those. I have learned from this site.

    Adjusted TA for CYA

Ok, that makes sense, I do see that in the CSI part of pot math it does ask for CYA. According to my measurements I am in good shape there with my test results. So I will not adjust my TA to meet the Leslie results. The water feels slightly hard to me but according to everything it is correct so...

    Adjusted TA for CYA

Pool has been doing very well and testing is going well on my own. Today I had to run a sample to my Leslie’s store so I could get my CYA tested since I ran out of fluid and it’s been a while since I tested. They said my numbers were really good but said I needed to add 3lbs of Baking soda since...

Seem to be using a lot of stabilizer

Overnight shows barely a 0.5 loss. So seems to pass. I think low cya was cause. I bumped system to 20% and didn’t go below target per TFP app. Learned to keep liquid chlorine on hand. I wanted to be closer to 6 or 7 anyway just made me get a little nervous when it started dropping after a few weeks

Seem to be using a lot of stabilizer

I will look at making a donation. I will make a point to buy my testing supplies from here as well. After my celebration however this week for no real reason the pool has begun to drop in chlorine level again. I added stabilizer yesterday and today I ended up lower than yesterday. I had been...

Seem to be using a lot of stabilizer

Well I have to say I am officially sold on this site. After this battle and the people on here and the pool school I am pleased. Pool has recovered from whatever was going on. Yes the sun moved and the temps changed some but the slam and other work paid off. I have a really clean pool. Levels...

Seem to be using a lot of stabilizer

Raised CYA up to roughly shy of 70. This evening. My chlorine was 7.5 when I got home so I lost about 1.5 today. I went ahead and added 2 cups of chlorine to bump up a little around 9. Strangely when I went to add the stabilizer I found the pump off and the breaker was tripped. Not sure when or...

Seem to be using a lot of stabilizer

Reagent arrived. test results tonight: FC:9 my second test said 10, probably error CC-0 PH-7.5 TA-90 CH-300 CYA-50 Salt is probably 2900-3000 Water is clear. Set pump to shut back down at 6pm so it’s not running 24 hours Going to retest in the am and see what I have. I have added no liquid...

Seem to be using a lot of stabilizer

That’s what I have been looking at the last couple days. My plan is to get back to 70-80 for stabilizer. Then stay around 10% of that level for FC. Gives a decent buffer and when the cell is working well it can stay pretty consistent on its amount. I run pump usually 9-10 hours a day but since I...

Seem to be using a lot of stabilizer

Since I appear to be over 10ppm. How do I adjust PH. That seems a little high right now so I added a half a cup to technically bring it to around 7.5. I under shot it on purpose. I assume the higher level bleach’s the red some? I at least wanted to get my ph down below 8 in case that’s where it...

Seem to be using a lot of stabilizer

Still no reagents but I turned my cell back on this am as a precaution with all the rain. I don’t appear to have dropped below 8 and that’s just turning back on this am. The target per app says 3 for my current stabilizer so right now as long as I am showing over 5ppm until I can get my real...
