While web surfing the other day, i found a site that recommended 0.5 ppm chlorine for a salt water pool. I'm having a little trouble understanding why a salt water pool would require less than the normally recommended 1-3 ppm. Anyone have the answer? I've always set it to 3 ppm and now wonder...

In 2007 I installed an Aqua Rite generator. In 2013 I began to get antsy about the cell failing in mid season, so I bought a replacement. The replacement is still on the shelf and the original cell from 2007 is still working just fine! How long can one expect these things to last? That's 13...

I'm paying $220 without chemicals or $290 with. I choose to do the pre-closing cleaning and add the chemicals myself. At $220, I feel like I'm getting a bargain.

Ditto on all the advice above. You seem to think that cya is only available in your chlorine tabs. That is definitely not the case. Go to Lowes, Home Depot, or your pool store and get yourself a bunch of CYA by itself...it may be called stabilizer.

Most any hardware store, auto supply store, Lowes, Home Depot, etc. will have crimp connectors. While special crimping tools are available, you can usually get a good connection with ordinary pliers or a hammar! :mrgreen:

I agree with Bama Rambler. That black wire connection looks very suspicious...errr, ugly at least. Without a copy of the schematic diagram of the SWG board, it is hard to tell what came first. Bad connection on the black wire or a failed current limiter. My guess based on "seat of the pants"...

Yes, the black thing is the limiter. The brown certainly indicates excessive heat and is a good indicator that the limiter is probably burned out. To answer your earlier question about balance...yes, you will need to add chlorine as your test kit indicates it until you get your SWG running again.
