Help prevent ice damage on steps this winter

Last winter was the 2nd season our pool was closed in central Ohio and we had a long period of freezing temps. When the pool was winterized the water level sits about 2 inches above the top step. This level gets the water line just below the tile and skimmers. Apparently the ice froze several...

    Calcium Crystals Upon Opening

Is there a reason why fall is best? I didn’t think scale tec had an effect on chlorine levels.

    Calcium Crystals Upon Opening

We’ve been keeping perfectly LSI balanced and using the Orenda SC-1000 maintenance apps. We’ve also been using pumice stone to remove calcium crystals. Hard to say what is winning the battle but it is starting to look better. Not sure we’ll ever get to normal without an acid wash but we are...

Brushing 2-3 times a day with stainless steel brush. Have a pH meter that was calibrated to 4.0 solution and was getting between 3.7-4.2 when tested.

    Calcium Crystals Upon Opening

We are a week into the purge dose of SC-1000 and it hasn’t really had much impact. I’ll continue to do the weekly maintenance dose and brush along with LSI balancing daily. Crossing fingers it starts to loosen up.

    Calcium Crystals Upon Opening

At the recommendation of SGM who manufacturers our DiamondBrite finish they suggested using Jack’s Magic Magenta Stuff for 4 weeks and keep the water balanced. That did virtually nothing. Decided on a no drain acid wash then with an initial dose of 4 gallons in our 16k gallon pool. Later added 2...

    Calcium Crystals Upon Opening

We opened our pool this spring at the beginning of April and found heavy calcium crystals on the walls and floors. The plaster was completed on the pool July 20th 2020. The service tech has been using the Orenda process to balance the LSI (Calcium Crystals vs. Scale) after researching the...

    Chalky Limestone Coping

Our pool project was completed last fall and all turned our great except the chronic chalky appearance of our limestone. It’s interesting because it is only occurring on the pool coping limestone and not on the landscape limestone coping. Our pool has a SWG and our builder asked us to monitor...

    Through Wall Heater Venting

Here are the overview photos, it is on the neighbors side but still visible as you pull into our driveway and from street. I’m just a stickler for detail and was hoping there is a more discrete solution. The pipe runs above a bathroom ceiling so that is as low as we can have it exit on wall.

    Through Wall Heater Venting

Construction is wrapping up and our heater (Hayward H250FDN) was installed yesterday and vented through side wall of pool house as we had requested to avoid roof penetrations which are not permitted on front facing elevations in our city. The vent install left a lot to be desired in terms of...

    Placement and Qty of Returns/Skimmers/Lights

Almost shovel ready on this build and want to get opinions on the current placement and quantity of the skimmers/returns and lights. Pool is 16' x 32' (approx 20,000-22,000 gallons). Would the one skimmer currently planned be enough? Pool area is free from any tree debris at this point in...

Thanks for the suggestions on equipment, I’ll look further into those. Any particular models for filter and aquaplus you’d recommend? The pool is specified to be cast in place concrete with Diamond Brite plaster.

Planning Almost Complete (Ohio) Feedback Welcome

We’ve finalized our plan and I’ve attached updated copies as well as some of the pool dimensions and engineering along with equipment list. Is it common for the sides to slope in as shown on the plan once the pool depth starts increasing from the base 4’ depth? It seems like we lose some...
