Freeze Preparations (TX, LA, GA, AL, FL, etc)

I read through the thread, but sorry if I missed an answer to this question. I have closed the pool and drained all above ground equipment. I’ve not drained the pipes but I’m not too worried about them. I lowered the water level in the pool below the skimmers and capped off the return lines...

VS Motor Replacement for Hayward RS1000 Pump

Thank you for the reply. I took the pump apart to check its condition. While it might work fine with a new motor, there were a number of things I noticed which makes me feel more comfortable by just getting a new full pump. Is there any reason why I wouldn't be able to drop down to 1.5HP with a...

VS Motor Replacement for Hayward RS1000 Pump

Hi all, I have a Harward RS1000 pump and it currently has a SP US Motors K63CXEPZ-4767 1.5HP 1.3SF motor attached to it. At the end of last year, the motor started grinding very loud and was leaking too. I thought about trying to fix it myself but I also just like the idea of getting a new VS...

Opening Pool, Everything Low, Where to start?

Sorry, in step 1 I meant adding 2bls 9oz of soda ash/washing soda, to raise both pH and TA. Pool math suggests that the 14lbs of baking soda will only raise my pH by 0.1? Thoughts?

Opening Pool, Everything Low, Where to start?

So from what I have read this is the order I should do things; Add 2lbs, 9oz of baking soda. This will raise my pH by 0.4 to the recommended level of 7.2. It will also raise my TA by 12. Add 5 gallons of instant pool water conditioner. This will raise my CYA by 75, which is the recommended...

Opening Pool, Everything Low, Where to start?

Hi all. I have a 25k gallon saltwater pool, details in my signature. I am getting a new filter installed tomorrow then I will need to start fixing the water. It is currently green so I know I need to SLAM it, but is that what I should do first? What should I balance after that? Current test...

Should I go for a new replacement pump and filter, or fix the old ones?

Current setup; Sta-Rite System 3 S7M400 cartridge filter. Haywood RS1000 pump basket, with an Emerson K63CXEPZ-4767 motor. The filter top has a crack in it, and the filter cartridges need to be replaced. I can get a replacement top for about $500, and the cartridges are another $500. I can fit...

Chipmunk made home under pool decking!

This is a rather strange one, but it appears that a chipmunk has made itself at home under our concrete pool decking. Should that be a concern? Can he damage anything?

Lets say I have a big pool party tonight (I wish) and decide to SLAM the pool tomorrow. Am I best using chlorine, or the super chlorinate feature of the SWG?

    Various SWG questions

My FC level has dropped to 5 now which is great, although the pump wasn’t running for 24 hours due to construction work we had going on so still not 100% on the salt cell%...will keep monitoring. My salt level has appeared to jump from 3200 to 3800 though, in 3 days. Is that expected? Should I...

    Various SWG questions

Salt cell was replaced spring 2019 according to the old owners, so only really used for about 5-6 months. Ah, I didn't know that about the light being off when it is not generating. That explains that! Thanks again.

    Various SWG questions

Hi all. I balanced my pool at the weekend to the point that I finally got my salt up to the required level for the SWG to start working. This is the first time I've used it so I've got a few questions if you don't mind. 1) The manual says that the ideal salt level is 3000, but the SWG itself...

    SLAM Complete!!!

I will do @mknauss! ? My TA has risen from 80 to 100 over 24 hours. Is that a concern? My TC has also gone up quite a bit, but I'm assuming that is due to my salt cell so I'll post on that forum.

    SLAM Complete!!!

Woohoo! Thanks all! Still got some dirt persisting on the floor but steady sweeping is getting that up. Other than that, the water is clear! Overnight test passed. CC at 0.5. ...now what? :D This is as far as I have ever got lol. I’ve updated my logs. I’m assuming I need to get chlorine down...

How do you know when your water is clear?!

Defo a lot better now. I can see the bottom of the deep end clearly, although it is nothing like the pics posted showing "no water" lol. I'll continue slamming for another 24 hours and see if it changes tomorrow. After that I'll come back for advice on what to do next. Question for you, there...
