    Installing Circupool RJ60+ 110v or 220v

Yes, I was planning on wiring it to the same circuit on my Aqualink as the pool pump is wired on. However, doesn't the flow switch act as a 'fallback' and stop the SWG from working if there isn't any water flow? Back to the wiring, I guess my question was whether it would be better to have the...

    Installing Circupool RJ60+ 110v or 220v

I bit the bullet on switching to salt after 3 years of liquid chlorine. Paid the $20 to upgrade from RJ45+ to RJ60+ at discountsaltpool.com. I am going to install this week. Question- is there an upside / downside on 110 vs 220? Either is doable for me. 1 more conductor to run for 220, but I...

    Acid and Chlorine

    Y. I had missed that increasing my CYA bumped the recommended FC up from 2 to 4. I am working on nailing that better. Pool had a SWG in the past and the previous owners pulled it out since they blamed it for the etching of the masonry around the pool. I am probably not going to put one back...

    Acid and Chlorine

Other than supply chain headaches (weeks where Home Depot had no liquid chlorine, and a recent shortage of HCL), and one small scare with gentle algae growth and non-zero combined chlorine for a few days, my pool is behaving remarkably well. However I have concluded that I need to add roughly 2...

    Pump eats capacitors

Thanks for the suggestions. I will look into the proper value of capacitor for the pump. It is getting old but seems to run fine and does not get particularly hot when running. Just to check, when you say 'check the current', you mean using an ammeter in series with the wiring? Or is there...

    Pump eats capacitors

Hi, I have a 2.5HP Pentair WF30 pump. It seems to need the run capacitor changed every 18 months. Is this normal? The first time around 3 years ago, I had the pool service guy replace it (I didn't know enough to check it before calling him). When it failed in June 19, I bought a replacement...

    Struggling with TA and PH

Thanks for the fast responses Marty and Allen. I will stop adding NACO2 unless things drop precipitously, and will target a PH of 7.6 and see how that works. I guess I had been trying too hard to nail 80 TA and 7.5pH.

    Struggling with TA and PH

I switched to the TFP recommended method last summer and I am happy to say that I have been completely algae free with very clear water ever since then. Definitely worth the effort of two partial drainings and then a 10 day SLAM cycle to get everything under control. I do have one concern...

Killer CYA - Stuck - HELP!

Bleach date codes are around 19-240 to 19-250. So not very old. Smells very bleachy. Also I did a 10,000 dilution test on the HEB bleach I used yesterday and it came out pretty much at 6ppm. I can test after 30mins - I waited 2hrs yesterday to make sure that it had circulated.

Best sources for Chlorine in Austin area

Where do folks in the Austin area get their Chlorine from? Seems like there are a lot of locations mentioned elsewhere in the US, but other than Home Depot (~$8 for 3 gal), Lowes (more expensive) and the grocery store for household bleach, I haven't found anywhere else that sells larger...

Killer CYA - Stuck - HELP!

Time to post an update: Drained around 105% of the pool in 3 batches and got the CYA down to around 45. (BTW my pool seems to be closer to 30K gal than 33K). Even with the dilution, the pool was an ugly green mess, with the first step barely visible. Started to SLAM on Sat 9/28 By Monday...

Killer CYA - Stuck - HELP!

Our house is on top of a hill, built on rock. Is there really any danger of the pool ‘floating ‘? Also I did a 1 part pool water, 3 parts tap water dilution for the CYA test. So I think that 4x40=160 or 4x45=180 is the correct level. In any case, 75% pump-out = 25K gal at ~14.50 per K gal =...

Killer CYA - Stuck - HELP!

4:1 dilution test came out between 40 and 45... So 160 to 180ppm CYA. Gallon test at 71ppm FAC underway overnight. I have a question about SLAP - if I had SWG, recommended CYA level is ~80ppm, but SLAP isn’t recommended at that CYA level. Am I misreading something. It makes a big difference...

Killer CYA - Stuck - HELP!

Thanks for the great suggestions everyone. Yes I do know that the regular tabs add CYA and I have gone cold turkey since mid last week. Right now I am treating the pool as being ‘closed’ until I figure out my strategy. I plan to do a 4:1 dilution CYA test later today to try and get a more...

Killer CYA - Stuck - HELP!

So I did the 50% CYA test and it showed somewhere between 85 and 90 implying 170 to 180 ppm. Does that mean I need to pump out 75% of my pool? Are there any other chemical imbalances that could pull the CYA number off?

Killer CYA - Stuck - HELP!

Unfortunately I only stumbled across these forums a few weeks back. We inherited our pool when we purchased our house in July 2015. It was originally built with a SWG, but the previous owners had converted to chlorine tabs due to the limestone surround being eaten by the salt. We had a few...
