PH very high in Salt Water Pool after Winter

so I assume by bromine is at 0 given I never really added any. Just to raise it to 30 I would need 1024oz of Bromax and 48oz of Muriatic Acid. lmao, I think I will opt out of raising my borates

    Ph in the winter

Guys, I am wondering if anything should be done to balancing the chemistry levels in the winter. I always open the pool to clear water but my Ph has been always high since I have a salt water pool. This year it was way high and I am worried about damaging the plaster. Should I be testing in...

Total alkalinity test turns charcoal, not green

I explained this wrong, it does not turn green, it turns red..... meaning it turns charcoal, then red on the next drop..... instructions also say red.... never seen a pink color on my tests.... unless you guys have a different idea of pink color? The instructions say in presence of high...

Total alkalinity test turns charcoal, not green

So my TA test seemed to always turn charcoal color first, then green on the next drop. I know most will say its the blue color which happens in presence of high chlorine but I am certain this happens with low and high chlorine. To me this looks like blackish/charcoal color, not blue at all...

    Pressure on Gauge never changes

well I guess the DE could have somehow escaped the filter magically :) but I definitely put it in there and there is always a ton after closing.

    Pressure on Gauge never changes

The pressure reads about 16, I did backwash it 3 times I think when opening the pool while I shock for the overnight test. I passed the overnight test within 24 hours pretty much every time I opened the pool since I moved in and water remains clear all season (with exception I mentioned...

    Pressure on Gauge never changes

Yes it does go to 0 when off, as far as the returns I am not really sure what strong means, they seem ok to me but I couldn't really tell you if they were as strong when I moved in 5 years ago or not, I do not have a good memory for stuff like that :/.

    Pressure on Gauge never changes

So when I moved in the pressure gauge was already pretty old but I never thought it maybe bad, after couple of season of it never changing the values really I decided to replace it. My pool was always pretty clear and not much stuff gets into the baskets. I bought a brand new zodiac pressure...

Which Pool Mesh Safety Cover to buy?

How are you liking this cover? I Actually moved into a home that had an HPI cover, I ended up calling HPI after getting the serial number this year to get a replacement (stitching falling apart). They gave me a 15% discount as there was 1 more year on warranty (10 years) and it will cost about...

    Opening the Pool Yet Again

I believe that post at 10:33 (shows 3:33 for me) was just stating that those were my original readings before I started SLAMing on Saturday night. I will try to not to let the secret out :P but I do not think I am doing anything special :) I just think my water stays clear over the winter. I...

how to stop spa from overflowing into pool??

I have an overspilling spa as well with my pool and the only way to accomplish what you need is to stop the circulation of the pool altogether and only pull water from and into the spa. Should be fairly easy to figure out.

    Opening the Pool Yet Again

Took readings again before adding any chemicals, CYA still 40, CH 180 and TA -70. I guess water wasn't mixed properly yet when I took original readings. Looks like I only need to add some Calcium and Stabilizer this year.

    pool opening algae or stains

The best and only way of cleaning up stains in the pool that I heard of until reading this post is to mix muriatic acid with water and use a brush to clear the stains...... however, I Am not certain you can do that without lowering the water level.

    Opening the Pool Yet Again

Yes I have a proper test kit and yes I know what SLAMing is, just could not remember if I needed to adjust any levels before slamming. Anyways, since I didn't get any replies I went ahead and adjusted PH and just started SLAMing on Saturday at 8PM. My first readings were Chlorine - 0 PH - 8.4...

Hey there, I have the exact same cover from the same company, purchase original one in 2011 but after last year bubbles were coming apart and I put a hole in it a couple seasons ago, last year it was no longer heating the pool that much. I decided to buy a new one this year and was able to get...

Tile Came Lose, how to repair?

Closing time it is then, when I open my pool is full of water ( I am opening it now) so that would not work. I let snow and rain fill it back up during winter/spring. Does anyone know if you can purchase plaster/gunite kits to fill small gaps like this?

Tile Came Lose, how to repair?

I will definitely not be lowering the water as I have no good way to refill it, can this wait till closing time? Also the grouting part I can manage but what about the chip in the gunite? Can I fill that in somehow, do they even sell this material for small patch jobs?

Tile Came Lose, how to repair?

Guys, one of the tiles that was in place right below my hot tub overspill has fallen off either during the winter or since my opening yesterday. I fished it out and noticed a little of the plaster that was below of it came off it. I think the water spilling from the tub edged a little space...

    Which tests before SLAM?

Not exactly true :) last two years my pool was done in 2 days and I didn't really add bleach very often, maybe 3 times in a 24 hour period. I believe it passed the overnight test the first night but I shocked another day just in case.

    Opening the Pool Yet Again

Hello guys, Could someone refresh my memory as to adjusting pool levels at opening? I will be shocking the pool in the beginning so I know its not a good ides to add chemicals until all done with that as to not waste them. But should I level anything before shocking? like Ph and Alkalinity maybe?
