    Refill or treat?

I'm new to hot tubs and did my first purge and refill about a week back. The only regret I have is not doing it sooner. I am using half the amount of chlorine to sanitize and it doesn't drop as quickly, and the tub feels better on my skin. You are doing the right things :) I let CYA get ahead...

    Oak pollen

Hey sorry to hear, you will square it away soon. I had to SLAM and just passed OCLT. Water clarity wasn’t bad but I could tell something off and higher FC usage. Crazy catkin and pollen season.

How to do SLAM with chlorine shortage

Nice! good to know about the wholesale place. 16 gallons should do it? :) I'm not recommending this, but why I asked about calcium is you could use cal-hypo which also increases your calcium number. Seems you have some wiggle room at 288 if you had to go that route.

How to do SLAM with chlorine shortage

What are your cya and calcium numbers? Would help to know see if room for powder forms. I was able to buy pool chlorine at Walmart near 290 and mopac

that is a lot of tree over your pool!

    Oak pollen

There are definitely more qualified folks to answer that one :) Algae spores are constantly entering the pool through wind, swimsuits, etc. Chlorine is eating through them along with these flora organics. Algae also now has more phosphate food from the organics, but also a place to hang out and...

    Oak pollen

Did your FC ever go below the minimum based on the FC/CYA chart?

    Oak pollen

I am also going through this. I can't trust the OCLT as catkins are falling into the pool 24/7. Just keep FC above normal and then do the OCLT after. We are almost through it. Your SWG may not keep up and could need to supplement with liquid chlorine. And if it is indeed algae you'll want to...

Cant decide on which brand hot tub and water filtration system

The Frog system is a nice idea. Getting to the holy grail of hot tub maintenance. It falls short. I see it as insurance in some cases.

Cant decide on which brand hot tub and water filtration system

They made my short list, I wet tested one of their Vortex tubs and then the Epic which is 6 seats, 390 gallons. Fits our goal of family time, or socialize with 1 or 2 other couples. We also ended up getting the microsilk feature which sounds like a gimmick. However, we love it. my wife's skin...

    Heater questions

I have a HP 140k (Pentair Ultratemp). My pool is a lot less volume than yours coming in around 16,000 gallons. First season with the pool, so only playing with the HP for the past few weeks. The other posters are spot on with the advice. So far I've learned to run it when temp is 60 to 85+...

Cant decide on which brand hot tub and water filtration system

Hi , I'm a new spa owner this year. It took about a year to get my spa from order to delivery. I deeply considered a hot springs, however the dealer wouldn't allow a wet test. I ended up getting a Marquis and we love it! The dealer can make or break the experience. Mine has Frog system...

Advice on Reliable Outdoor Kitchen Grills

💖 Fire Magic. There are many tiers of grills. I was torn on getting Blaze, which is in a more economical tier. Nevertheless I ended up with Fire Magic and do not regret spending the extra money. Twin Eagles is a comparable brand to fire magic.

    Refill or treat?

You’ll have a much easier time learning water chemistry with a fresh fill. No brainer on a hot tub with a few hundred gallons of water.

Decking - Finally our pool build

We're in the 9th inning. The plumbing leak was fixed, leak test passed, and we waited quite a while for the deck crew to pour concrete. But it happened! Water *should* be in the pool in 3 to 4 weeks. Here's a pic: What's next: * Lay the travertine decking * compact rock down for the hot tub *...

Decking - Finally our pool build

You know talking face to face is the way to go. Feel much better and aligned on rest of the pool project after an impromptu 30m face-to-face chat with the builder today. We'll darken the grout. The plumber will come by to replace the elbow soon, and the deck and kitchen start next week...

Decking - Finally our pool build

I agree Kimkats. I'll be watching the rework closely. I did a poor job saying it upfront. The only involvement in this pool for her has been picking tile and grout :). She could care less about the other things as long as she gets that and the sundeck. So we'll have to fix it. I am fine either...

Here's the latest look with tile and coping installed. We really love the ceramic tile on the raised wall. Water feature at the top. Outstanding items: * quite a struggle to get leaky PVC elbow replaced. I'm waiting to hear back from builder and their plumber. I started a thread for more help...
