New pool owner - Filter leak

I run my VSP at 2200 because I have to trigger my heater, but when I get an air bubble forming I know it’s time for a backwash 😁 I mean, I do trust my pressure gauge, but that air bubble always has indicated backwash time.

SLAM Process - Chlorine Staying High

I replaced ZeoSand that the previous owners had in the filter with regular ol’ pool sand and I’ve been much happier with filtration since. The pool is the clearest it’s ever been.

Pool closing company left drain open on my 36,000 gallon inground pool. Liner dried out and shrunk, not sure my options.

Yeah, I thought I recalled reading that as well, but couldn’t remember for sure. It makes sense. EDIT: Well, that’s a dumb response, of course that’s part of it! 😝But I think I also recall that they have to redig the hole as well because they’re structurally very different.

    Persistent dirt above the waterline

You may want to do some searching about polyester pools on the internet. I had never heard of a polyester pool so I did a quick search. Here’s one quote I found: “Polyester pools are ephemeral pools because of all the disadvantages that we explained above. The exposure to the sun will...

Pool closing company left drain open on my 36,000 gallon inground pool. Liner dried out and shrunk, not sure my options.

Everything I’ve read online says it’s a “start over”, no less expensive than starting from nothing.

I think I found a leak! Pool renovation beginning.

It’s a beautiful pool, 🤞it all works out well!

    Persistent dirt above the waterline

Also, I wouldn’t use a pressure washer on a vinyl pool, so plaster assumption seems appropriate.

    Persistent dirt above the waterline

Is that a vinyl liner? I assumed from the photos it was plaster and ‘polyester’ was an autocorrect for ‘plaster’. It would be good for @zoltym to clarify a few details about their pool.

    ABG Pool repairs after winter

As a fellow northerner I understand the ground “heaving” from frost/cold that others are talking about, see the buckling you’re talking about in your photos, and understand your concerns. I don’t have an above ground pool, but I can tell you, you can trust Mdragger and Casey’s advice, they...

Anyone open in NE yet and have lower water than usual?

Not even close to MA, but I’ve experienced the same issue this year, opened yesterday. Usually I’m up to the top of the skimmers (or higher!), this year took me about four hours to fill to halfway up the skimmers before I could turn on the pump! And we had record snowfall this year.

    Fill Water Alk

I think my fill water TA is about the same. I’m just committed to having to add about 1/2 gallon of muriatic acid every couple of weeks to knock my pH back down.

Please share how you collect water for testing....I'm curious how everyone else does this...

knew my balance was off I totally thought you knew your chemical balance was off just by putting your arm in the pool! 😝

All the kudos and congratulations are well deserved. I only hope I can pay it forward like you did some day. 🍻

At the very least you probably need to replace the spider gasket. Otherwise, lookin’ pretty good!

    FAS DPD really necessary?

At least now they’re being honest about their business! 😝

    FAS DPD really necessary?

You got a lot of answers about pool store testing and test strips, but I’m not seeing any answers to the title of your post. Is the FAS-DPD really necessary? I would say yes. Free Chlorine (FC as we abbreviate it) is the most important parameter of a “balanced” pool. If you use test strips or...

    Muriatic Acid Use

I can attest to this. I slacked this year and got lazy. Now I have bleached liner around my main drain which I thought was worthless for water circulation 😕

    Muriatic Acid Use

A clarification, yes, don’t mix muriatic acid and chlorine together. I’ll add acid first, then chlorine an hour later with the pump running throughout both additions. I think some here say 30 minutes minimum, but I’m not usually in a hurry to add chlorine. There is probably something documented...

    Muriatic Acid Use

Do you have a Home Depot anywhere near? In MN I get 32 baume muriatic acid from HD. I don’t trust Kleanstrip, I researched it once and decided it wasn’t what I wanted, but I don’t remember why. I think some here have said it’s ok, but I’d look around a bit more, a local hardware store may have...

Pool green for over a year.

Probably need to get all the “gunk” off the bottom, raise CYA to 30, then SLAM. All that chlorine with 0 CYA and a lot of organics means a lot of wasted chlorine. I’m assuming there is still 0 CYA?

Can I add any sort of "protective layer" on top of my pool's pebble finish?

Just to be clear, there is no such thing as “old” water. Your current water could have issues that require draining, but you won’t know that until you test it yourself. Get a good test kit (as suggested above), do some reading (also as suggested above) and come back with the results of your...

Reading the recommendations on TFP makes me concerned pool care is too difficult.

I’ve seen enough of your posts to know that you know your stuff 🙂 it’s easy enough after a hard day of work to mix something up on a forum doing your best to help others. Much ❤️

Sorry, but I felt compelled to say something. The tests can be confusing to people new to testing, so I wanted to make sure. 🙂

Reading the recommendations on TFP makes me concerned pool care is too difficult.

To do it the way you’re suggesting, you’d have to dump back into the bottle on every fill. If you fill to 100, see dot, 90, see dot, …, 40, see dot, 30 don’t see dot, call it 40 you can do the test without having to dump back in the bottle. That said, you can repeat the test a few times by...
