    Zodiac MX8 Hose Weights

I was shopping for new hoses for my MX8, and I saw lots of posts for weights. Any experience with these? I'm not as much interested in the claims that they improve robot navigation (though that would be nice), as I am with having the hose not floating on the surface, where it tends to block the...

    Aqualink-compatible VS pumps - alternative to 011056?

Thanks! What are the aux relays? For hooking up JVAs to shut off rooftop solar/pool cleaner/etc when it's in low RPM mode? So, if * I don't need a control panel (plan on hooking up to aqualink control panel) * I have 240v service * I am interested in the added safety of SVRS, if possible...

    Aqualink-compatible VS pumps - alternative to 011056?

Thanks Allen! Do you know anything about the different pumps Jandy has? I can't find a comparison showing differences between the multiple VS 2.7HP pumps they are showing on website (all as "New!"): VSFHP270DV2A (VS FloPro) VSSHP270DV2A (ePump) VSSHP270AUT (ePump) JEP2.0SVRS (ePump) VSPHP270DV2A...

    Aqualink-compatible VS pumps - alternative to 011056?

I did a whole lot of research and was going up upgrade my Aqualink to a iAqualink v3, and get a 011056 Pentair VSF pump which is apparently compatible with it. But, my installer has told me that his supplier says that Pentair's factory is shut down and that they can't get the 011056 or other...

    Replacing Pump with Pentair Intelliflow

    That shows as 120V - don't I need a 240v breaker?

    Replacing Pump with Pentair Intelliflow

Left to right - Lights, Aqualink, (blank), Pump phase 1, Heat Pump phase 1, Heat Pump phase 2, Pump Phase 2. (Pump are the ones switched off because it's leaking). I do hate this panel, but do I want to spend thousands replacing it?

    Replacing Pump with Pentair Intelliflow

I already had to upgrade the subpanel to 100A service (0 gauge wire) for the heat pump. The pool circuit has a 70A breaker - do they even make GFCI breakers that large?

    Replacing Pump with Pentair Intelliflow

Thanks both for the responses. Suppose that my breaker box is an old GE TPL412R, which I believe has the 4 slots split by phase (left 2 one phase, right 2 the other) so it can only have one tandem breaker spanning the two phases (ie 240v). That slot is currently occupied by a 50A breaker for the...

    Replacing Pump with Pentair Intelliflow

Mine isn't GFCI. I'm being told I should upgrade the whole panel to be GFCI. Sound right? I have a GFCI breaker on the pool lights, but the other slots won't accommodate a GFCI breaker (it's a really small box, GE I believe).

    Replacing Pump with Pentair Intelliflow

Will the existing 20A split breaker be sufficient?

    Replacing Pump with Pentair Intelliflow

I'm tired of the drama with my current 2HP Super II pump. Having the case leaking issue that doesn't seem to be fixed with seal replacement. * I have a heat pump, rooftop solar, and a suction-side cleaner, so the pool (<10k gal) still has a pretty big pump. I'm assuming the current pump was...

    Cost of Automation - Why?

Just to clarify, "automation" here refers to the systems housed in a box next to your pool equipment that trigger relays to turn pumps on and off, configure valve actuators to switch between skimmers, heaters, pool cleaners, and between pool and spa modes. So that you can press a button and/or...

    Cost of Automation - Why?

I am an engineer, and looking at the Jandy automation systems, I can tell you that this is 1970s/1980s technology. Newer boards add processors, but the requirements are minimal. I can understand why a control board would cost >$500 in the 1980s, but nowadays this tech should probably cost $100...

    Economics of Two-Speed Pump Operation

Well, what I have now is achieving a GPM of 0. (it's dead, Jim) :)

    Economics of Two-Speed Pump Operation

I believe it's Revision G (that's what's printed on the back of the circuit board, Jandy Industries Power Center Rev G)

    Economics of Two-Speed Pump Operation

Other question: I looked at the manual, seems like I turn a DIP switch and it turns AUX2 into a relay control for the special dual-speed relay switch I need to add. The original relay still gets the main pump relay wire, it feeds one leg of the output to the pump and the other leg to the DS...

    Economics of Two-Speed Pump Operation

Upgrading to a two-speed pump. Have heard it will be a big energy savings, but not clear as to how this works, how I should configure it. My system is set up as such: I currently run 6 hours on pool, then 2 hours on spa (allows solar heater to get spa hot-ish, in case I want to use it). It...

2.5HP UST1252 pump - repair, replace, or upgrade?

Side question regarding the variable speed - how does that work with the cleaner etc? Right now, as long as the filter is clean, there's enough suction to keep the pool cleaner moving with the diverter set to about 70% cleaner, 30% skimmer/drain. (the main drain is closed, so the 30% is all...

2.5HP UST1252 pump - repair, replace, or upgrade?

Would you not recommend taking the bolts out to see if the impeller is broken or something? (could that be happening/would it cause circuit breaker to blow, ie if the pump was encountering resistance or complete lack thereof?) I'm always afraid of unbolting things with gaskets in fear the gasket...

2.5HP UST1252 pump - repair, replace, or upgrade?

Would VS require a whole new assembly? Or can I get a variable motor only? Are the VS adjustable top speed - I have a 2.5hp and my pipes route through a rooftop solar heater, which I know from experience can burst if there is backpressure due to the pipes being too small to accomodate the flow.

2.5HP UST1252 pump - repair, replace, or upgrade?

I have a 2.5hp pump that *seems* to be turning, but sounds weird, and almost immediately trips the breaker. Noticed a burning smell the first time it happened. I think it might be toast, though it's odd that I saw it moving still when I tried starting up with the skimmer lid open. Any...

Jandy Aqualink to control heat pump

#14? Is that the recommended gauge? Seems like overkill for a non-power wire? Just making sure that wasn't supposed to be 24# - most of the Jandy is using 18 wire, even the JVAs which are actually driving motors.

Jandy Aqualink to control heat pump

This is fantastic! Thank you so much! I was worried it would be like the gas heaters, where you have to change up all sorts of wires inside - looks like they have a terminal you can just plug into? No firemen's switch or anything like that?

Jandy Aqualink to control heat pump

I am trying to figure out where to locate the control wire that I am supposed to use to have my Aqualink control panel control my new heat pump. It sounds like the correct wireset is "Pool Low Voltage Heater" on the green terminal bar, but I am not seeing any voltage (AC or DC) appearing across...
