Going away for 2 nights maintaining FC

I am so grateful for the advice which has me maintaining my pool on my own all summer. CYA 40. During this hot spell I have Been targeting FC 8 rather than 7 and it usually ends up losing 3-3.5 so the FC is 4.5-5. If I am going away for 2 nights and I bring it up to a SLAM level of 16 before I...

    DIY Solar Cover Roller

I read through this thread a couple times trying to figure out what’s best for a rectangular pool. I have a 16 ft wide x 32 ft long mostly rectangular pool except for the cutout of the stairs. If I cut the cover in half like the thread has said I would have 2 16x 16 squares. 1)Would you run the...

    Pool opening

No piles of algae. Didn’t add anything yesterday. Tested this morning and FC 11, CC 0. So I think I’ve passed the SLAM right? Now let the FC drift down to a target of 8?

    Pool opening

Yes it is a Hayward sand filter. So after maintaining at FC 12 overnight and CYA of 40 do I now let chlorine level drift down to target of 7

Filter pressure went up about 6 PSI when I vacuumed and added CYA. Should I wait like another 24 hours then backwash?

    Pool opening

PH 7.6 FC 12 CC 0 CYA between 30 and 40. so FC stayed 12 overnight, water is clear and CC is 0 so we are good to start the heater and go swimming when it warms up?

    Pool opening

So since it was 19 this morning and 12 now should I add chlorine or leave it at 12 and test again in the morning?

    Pool opening

Just tested again. CYA still not dissolved. I’m squeezing it every once in a while FC 12 CC 0 TA 75 CH 300 PH 7.6

    Pool opening

Sorry for the multiple posts in a row, for the dirt at the bottom should I vacuum to waste or just into filter? Probably should have vacuumed to waste before I added chlorine and CYA! At this point I’m thinking just to the filter and can backwash later. Learning lessons from opening and closing...

Also cloudiness is gone! Just need to vacuum the bottom. After that should I turn the pump off for a bit after running for 24 hours?

    Pool opening

So I added half the 5 gallon container of 12.5% and filled a sock with 1.5 lbs of CYA powder. The sock didn’t dissolve much. Only seems to be coming out when I squeeze it. Ran pump over night FC 19 CC 0.5 PH 8.0 Should I wait until CYA dissolves to test again?

    Pool opening

I’m trying to use pool math to figure out both. I have liquid chlorine 12.5% in 5 gallon container so a little less than 1/2 gets me to 12. For the CYA you said 10 ppm so do I put in like my CYA is 20 and try to get to 30?

    Pool opening

Cya less than 30 (still Saw black dot but blurred). At closing last year it was between 30 and 40. FC 0 (didn’t turn pink at all after 3 scoops of R-0870) TA 75 CH 250 PH 7.2

    Pool opening

Also for the heater I don’t think it has a drain plug and is plumbed into filter. Do I just turn the gas on even if I’m not turning it on yet?

    Pool opening

Can you give me the steps I need to do before turning the filter on. I took the plugs out of return, Gizmo out of skimmer, took plugs out of filter basket, plug on sand filter is on, put pressure gage and filter glass on. I think prime the pump basket and reseal, then turn on filter?

    Pool opening

Hey I used this forum for the second half of last season and to close last year and had great success , I just pulled the cover off the pool and it is fairly clear just a little cloudy. Now I am looking for help on the steps for getting the filter going and then will post test results?

    Loose pool anchors

With replacement anchors is there any product you recommend use to anchor them in?

    Loose pool anchors

I closed myself for the first time today. I previously had the pool company close last year and open this year. They used a power driver to tighten and loosen the brass pool anchors. Today when I went to loosen ( pull the anchor up) using a hand tool about half came out easily, 1/4 I had to...

The concept of closing an in ground swimming pool

I went back and reread again and realized after blowing out the return lines I never put the MPV to closed. After blowing out the suction side I now put a black plug in both suction and return lines but I know that was out of order. Is this why water is continuously dripping out of sand filter...

The concept of closing an in ground swimming pool

I reread your post and had success after threading the gizmo in first then putting in cap. I did “air lock” the main drain with the Cyclone blowing for 30 seconds then shutting the Jandy but I thought I remember something about hearing it lock? I took off the sand filter drain last and a good...

The concept of closing an in ground swimming pool

I see what you mean now about the hose. I had some adapters that all worked great to attach to end of vacuum hose/Cyclone which then connected to a cone adapter and then of course all this attachments did not fit into the pump basket so I had someone hold the hose in the basket while I put...

The concept of closing an in ground swimming pool

Also if you didn’t lower the water level below the skimmer and you are blowing out the skimmer, you thread the gizmo in quickly while water is still in the skimmer? And do you put caulk wrap on the gizmo?

The concept of closing an in ground swimming pool

Why work from skimmer and not the inside of the pump basket like you said you do if the hose is a flexible one? I am going to give it a try but as you can tell am nervous to start but appreciate your feedback. I just want to make sure I have this idea right before starting. When you say you set...

The concept of closing an in ground swimming pool

No I didn’t create a modified cover. The hose can be cut to whatever length but I did 5 ft. Is there any reason not to use that hose?

The concept of closing an in ground swimming pool

I kept an old vacuum hose I was going to use for the pool cover pump but I cut it and rethreaded a cuff on the end. Also I posted pictures of the heater I have... I do not see any drain plugs but if I am understanding right the water gets blown out of the heater and out the returns so you don’t...
