Thanks ... I'm such a dumbass. Motor set to 220 Supply is 115. Moved the switch on the motor to 115 and all is well.

I have a 1hp pump wired for 220 and it is running slow. It runs full speed until it primes and then slows down. Can only get to 5 PSI on the filter guage? Changed the capacitor with no change. Checked centrifugal switch. Wondering if a winding burnt out? Anyone seen this?

I have a pool with sub 7.0 PH. FC is 11pm. It has green algae and I want to shock it. The CYA is around 50ppm. How much chlorine can I safely add? Obviously I have added PH Up and will wait but wondered what the tolerance or risk is in this case to the liner.

When you have low to none CYA and you use pucks is the chlorine bound to the CYA from the pucks themselves. Is the chlorine dispensed already stabilize or will the sun burn it off until the overall CYA level is increased?

How long does it take to damage a liner with high Chlorine and Low PH? Put another way how long do you have to correct the balance before it's too late?

Thanks Jason, I appreciate that its not that much difference in the pool. (5 grams in my pool for 1ppm FC) In the end I realized I just needed to extrapolate what you were using for 100% and take 70%. I edited a local copy of the page and added the 70% option to both the fc and eff functions...

Costco in Canada is selling Cal Hypo 70% this year. Up from 65% last year for the same price. Bless their hearts. The calculator does not have 70% as an option. I have emailed the folks at poolcalculator.com and asked that it be added but if not I'm wondering if I simply reduce the factor used...

This pool had a liner failure the winter before last and was left partially empty this past winter (Toronto Area). I have no idea if these cracks existed before but now we need to fix them before a new liner is installed. Any advice is welcome. One side of the section crack is about 1/8" higher...

I think the trick was letting the water get below 60 before closing and opening it before it got above 60. Well that and not using a closing kit full of junk. Just a little algae around the water line ..vacuumed the bottom to waste...shocked to 12ppm using calhypo. PH was 7.2 raised to 7.8 /...

There is also a set of contact points on a centrifugal for the starter circuit. They might need cleaning or stuck partially open.

I think the heat pump is the culprit ..how much do you run it?

I've heard of someone thinking of using solar panels in reverse in that they run them at night to dissipate the heat. Need to find a good heat sink I would think and modify the design.

Are they ignorant pool owners or just lazy? Is it the pool store's job to educate or to supply the most dumbest down solution available? You obviously have some business sense since you own such a large pool ... sometimes it's just the nature of the beast ... I'm just saying that they have bills...

You can do it chemically by taking a measurement of say PH and then dosing a specific change and then re-measuring for the result.

I read that Fiberglass pools floating out of the ground is an old wives tale. Makes sense to me that if it's filled with water and surrounded with a concrete deck it's not going to pop out of the ground. On the other hand any empty pool surrounded by interloc might float.

I would bid on a chemical cost plus basis.

It might eat your suit and could cause some skin irritation but yes it's safe enough |WITH a CYA of 60 or more.

Re: First time pump/filter startup..Do I NEED to ground it ? Bonding is the process of electrically connecting all the components to each other. This keeps their electric potential equal to each other. Grounding is just that ...the components are attached to a ground rod deep in the earth...
