    CYA images

I agree that the test is best interpreted in indirect sunlight. If I had to guess based on the photos provided, I’d just call it 80 CYA. The standard solution is used in place of your pool water. Perform the test in the same way, but use the solution instead of your own pool water.

    Algae Recurrence after SLAM

Twenck, I’m in Orlando and I’ve had the exact same experience. I kept FC in range and would inevitably see a green/yellow cloud when I brushed the pool floor. It never accumulated on the sides, only the bottom. I would SLAM, pass all the criteria, and yet a week later I’m seeing green stuff on...

    Seeking advice on tree debris

The manager at Leslie’s told me to turn off the main drain and have all the suction come from the skimmer when I’m expecting heavy rains. Going to try that to see if it helps.

    Seeking advice on tree debris

Hello all! I have this problem where my pool gets cloudy after heavy rains. I have a screened in pool and three gigantic oak trees whose limbs extend over the pool. I intend to have them cut back, but the door to my fence isn't wide enough for the arborists to drive their cherry picker back...

    Raising CYA with tablets

Thank you everyone! I‘ll keep an eye on pH and TA and go back to liquid chlorine once my CYA gets to a good spot. I seem to need to add muriatic acid once a week or so, so the acidity of the tablets may be a blessing in disguise.

    Raising CYA with tablets

Current test results: FC 4 pH 7.6 TA 70 CH 375 CYA 20 CSI -0.02 Temp 76 My CYA is getting pretty low and I don’t have any on hand to add to the pool. I am limiting my trips outside the house and was wondering if it’s a bad idea to use tabs for a while to gradually raise the level up. I have...

    Crystal clear water secret?

In the Lake Mary / Sanford area. The pollen is bad enough that my water looks hazy from time to time right now, especially following a rain. Not sure if this is the same thing you are seeing with "white flakes" but after a rain I'll see some white, foamy stuff that disappears once the pump has...

    Speedstir Problem

I’ve had a speedstir since last summer and have used it daily since then. In the last month or so the bean tends to get stuck on one side of the vial and just shakes there and I have to repeatedly shake and tap the vial to get it to finally spin in the middle. Today I couldn‘t even get it to...

algae that doesn't go away no matter how high the chlorine

Hello! I’m no expert and have owned a pool for only a year now. Just tossing out an idea as I can sense it’s been a frustrating experience for you. Reading through your thread, it seems you’ve maintained some really high chlorine levels for some time. I also notice that your location is listed...

Suddenly getting algae on pool floor. Why now?

This will be easy! Just keep the FC at the shock level for your CYA and then maintain it until you pass the SLAM criteria. Brushing daily is important as well. I have kept my pool at or above target FC levels for my CYA for months and just got a patch of algae on the pool floor a month or so...

Water exchange - just want to confirm I have the right setup

Curious, is there something in tap water that shows up as CCs? After the exchange last night, I got a test result of 1 CC. I also got that result this morning when testing. Both times, the test turned pink immediately after the first drop of R-0003. Tonight, the CC test went back to typical...

Water exchange - just want to confirm I have the right setup

Success! Ran the water exchange for 12 hours or so today. Ended up with CYA of 50 (down from 70) and CH of 375 (down from 525). TA went up by 10 ppm. I added some MA to counter that and the resultant pH level. Also added some FC to stay at target.

Water exchange - just want to confirm I have the right setup

Hello everyone! I'm doing a water exchange to bring my CH and CYA levels down a bit. I think I have a good grasp on the process but wanted to share a photo of my setup to ensure I'm doing it correctly. Fill water hose is on the right going into the bucket on the steps. The submersible pump is on...

Burning eyes of all of a sudden

So, I’ve certainly experienced the inaccuracies of the pH drop test when FC is high. It’s what spurred me to buy an electronic tester, which I understood wouldn’t suffer the same chlorine interference as the drop test. As an example, I tested earlier today with both and my electronic tester read...

Burning eyes of all of a sudden

I am not maintaining it at 70 on purpose. When I bought the house the CYA was at 180 and I’ve been lowering it over time with rain dilution. It’s an older house and the layout of the property isn’t great for draining the pool. It’s come down quite a bit (180 down to 70) and I’ve never let it get...

Burning eyes of all of a sudden

Hello all, Last night, my wife told me that her eyes burned when she swam in the pool. She also had a cut on her leg that burned. I've been pretty busy at work and haven't been able to jump in and experience it for myself. This is the first time I've had a report of discomfort in the pool and...

Stabilizer dropped from 60 to somewhere below 30 in a little more than a month!

I’m in Central Florida and bought a house with a high CYA pool. As of May, my CYA was 180. As of my last test this past weekend, it was at 80. I’ve had to drain approximately 12” due to rain during that time, but it doesn’t fully account for the CYA loss. I believe, as stated above, that warm...

Questions about effects of dilution due to rain

Hello! I'm a relatively new member to the forum and have been maintaining a high CYA pool as described here in my introduction post: First time posting My pool is still amazing (thank you!), but I'm encountering some results that I can't fully explain. As I stated in my intro post, my strategy...

Dry Acid and Impact On FC

I’m not an expert on the site, but my personal experience has been that dry acid has had no measurable effect on my FC levels.

    Prep for vacation

I also live near Orlando and I take a lot of 3 day trips for work. I’ve had great results by dosing the pool with liquid chlorine to account for my typical daily FC loss for the time I’ll be gone plus 1 day (to account for significant rain events, organics getting in the pool, etc.) For...

Puzzled..... periodic slight cloudiness, despite SLAMs & high-ish CL levels

Not sure if this helps, but you mentioned performing multiple SLAMs. When you performed the SLAM procedure, you lowered your pH at the beginning. Which leads me to the following thought: I have noticed in my pool that as pH drifts toward the high end, the water seems slightly dull. I wouldn’t...

    First time posting

Hello everyone, Last fall, I bought a house with a pool and became a first time pool owner! I knew nothing at all about pools and as we were moving in, the pool looked great so I didn't pay much attention to it at first. Perhaps 3 days or so after we moved in, I started to see green stuff...
