    Power Outage, Pool Freezing

Rolling Black outs wound up being 5 hours because of equipment failure. Thawed out the pump, pulled drain plugs in it and the sand filter, used unions to break up lines to and from the filter. Pool is freezing solid about once an hour, any advice other than being vigilant about busting up the...

    Hayward Knock Off Replacement Pumps

Thanks for the reply mas985, I found a Pentair 2 speed on Amazon for $275 that was new from Amazon but said it had a cosmetic defect. Crossed my fingers and bought it with an extended warranty, it came with the blank plate which was where the defect was, and the plate with the switch which was...

Pool pad plumbing arrangement & thoughts on flexible PVC

I would think that the flex PVC would offer less of a restriction if you are replacing elbows with a sweeping radius turn using flex, but I'm an old electrician and not an old plumber.

    Hayward Knock Off Replacement Pumps

I just noticed from another thread that the Hayward pumps are assembled in China, with that in mind, has anyone had luck with the cheaper Hayward knock-off pumps listed as several different brands?

    Difference in Pump Diameter

No water features, and I just replaced the Polaris with a Dolphin S200, so I'm not running the PB4 booster pump anymore.

    Difference in Pump Diameter

My pump info is long gone from the nameplate, and I didn't do well on documentation when we first moved in, all I can remember is that it was a Sta-Rite 1HP. What is the difference between the older pumps (1992) with the thin, larger diameter impeller casing and the newer version of pool pumps...

Flooded pump motor. Repair or replace?

Usually protocol for submerged motors is drying the windings in an oven by an electric motor shop, went through this in the 90's for an industrial customer. In time it might dry out itself, but the capacitors and centrifugal (start winding) switch might need cleaning or replacement.

    Skimmer Throat Tile Collapsed

The tile on the roof of my skimmer throatjust collapsed. When we moved in 20 plus years ago, the tile was held in place by RTV silicone. I reset it but now there is more thinset that has come loose. I was told by a pool company that wanted $400.00 just to send a crew out without repairing...

    Doheny's Discovery, S200, Active20, Triton owners club

Thanks for 82 pages of reading, I just called Margaret and joined the s200 club, can't wait to pull my Polaris 380 out of the pool for good, it's been a workhorse, but after looking at parts cost for a total rebuild and an aging PB4 booster pump, this seems to be the way to go.

    Acid Wash

Thank you sktn77a, Thank you for the reply, this could be from abnormally frequent torrential rains over the last 3 to 4 years and letting the PH get away from me, I've tried Scaletek without any success, I can scrape it off but I'm not committed enough to do the whole pool. It is scale, running...

    Acid Wash

20,000 gallon in ground pool, was re-plastered in 2014, now I have scale buildup on the plaster, the buildup feels like 80 grit sandpaper, probably started about a year after it was re-plastered, I've treated it during the colder months with Scaltec with little success. Where can I find the...

Using Air Conditioner as Pool Heater/Condenser

Cutting down chain link fence posts

Our sign crews remove damaged posts the way davelinde suggested, they will almost always seperate from the concrete with a little help from a sledge hammer at the base of the post and usually most of the concrete debri can be removed by hand after the post is removed.

I've had good luck with pressure washer as well, but like mumstheword said, be careful, it can damage the plaster and remove the grout between tiles.

    Skimmer Lines

That's what I'm assuming, after I excavated the area around the 90 you could definitely hear a hissing sound with the pump on.

    Skimmer Lines

Late update, on project. Female mini schnauzer had found the leak for me, just didn't realize it. She had dug a hole about 8 feet from the pool on the opposite side from the power line and what would have been the logical route. As I was attempting to blow debri out of the line my son saw water...
