I owe these forums a lot of money. Fixed my heater, now I need to address the cover.

Between fixing my swamp condition, getting advice on 'alternative' chemicals to my local pool store's pricing, and now saving me at least $150 by replacing a $15 sensor in my heater, I think I'd be one frustrated pool owner otherwise. Now, what to do about my cover? A large branch fell onto it...

I’ve put in 2lbs of CYA, my last test still came up 30, and that’s only because I can’t get a lower reading. Just added 2lbs more.

Hooray! I made it! Now I have a new problem; a hostile force has invaded.

So I'm going for OCLT tonight; shut my SWG off an hour ago, and just did my testing. Water is nice and clear. My CYA is too low to measure with my kit, so it's at least 30. Assuming I pass, I'll add stabilizer tomorrow, but I only have four pounds and the app says I need 9 to get to the...

    Swamp Fever

My CYA is too low to measure. My chlorine levels are too low on the SWG. My salt is too low. My water is crystal clear, except for all the oak tree pods that keep falling in; I've skimmed a lot of them off, the skimmer baskets get clogged with the things within a day. I've only added...

Didn't do the OCLT last night, going for it tonight. FC was at 3 this morning, CC was .5, so safe for swimming. I anticipate OCLT failing because despite it being 50 and rainy here: I made him be useful and pick up the rocks from the bottom.

Consistently high pressure after just an hour

I was in the same boat as you. I'm still working my filter. It took a month of work because I had a lot of debris in the pool that took time to remove, but once all the debris was out, my water cleared up very nicely. I followed the advice given here and my results have been spectacular.

Consistently high pressure after just an hour

My DE filter has a 6-way valve on it; Filter, Rinse, Closed, Backwash, Recirculate, Waste.

Any issues with Pleatco universal grids Pentair FNS Plus 60?

I was looking for this answer in case cleaning my grids doesn't solve my water pressure issues.

Cleaned my grids again and my clean pressure is now...11. The water is nice and clear. I didn't put anything in the pool today and had no real time to test. After getting the grids cleaned I reassembled and recharged the filter, so we'll see what the flow is in the morning when the timer...

Bypassing the heater won't help to diagnose the problem with the heater. The heater is only a problem when the water is going through the filter. So the filter is the first thing you remove from the equation.

    Swamp Fever

The heater works fine when the filter is bypassed. I thought it was something with the filter, because even when the filter pressure barely moved up from 12, you could see less turbulence in the water near the returns. So I bought the wash for the filter elements, and I'll try and take care of...

    Swamp Fever

So I didn't pass OCLT. But my water is clear enough that I can see the holes in the drain covers from the other end of the pool. Spoke to my pool company that installed my heater, they tell me I need to chemically clean my DE grids because my clean pressure should be less than 10.

I'm 8 or 9 feet deep. Didn't have the diving board reinstalled. Going to save up for a slide, much more fun for my kid once she's capable of doing more than crawling and drooling. My older one is more interested in SCUBA than diving.

How do you determine that it's "gin-clear" I look at it, and it looks pretty Darn clear. Especially compared to what I started with, or even what it looked like a week ago. Today I installed the new 'precise' gauge, which is giving me the same reading the Hayward gauge did, 12psi@2200RPM...

THe problem with that is the SWG relies on its own reading to function. When my test kit showed 3400ppm, the SWG had read 4.2gpl, and threw an error code at me that said the salinity was too high.

    Swamp Fever

Well it turns out I did it wrong anyway, I left the SWG on overnight. Results are good, CC is 0 right now and FC went up. SALM says add another gallon of Chlorine, so he's doing that now. I'll see what it looks like when I get home. There's nothing visible to manually vacuum, but we're...

Drains! The other thing looks like an itchyball, and several shadows of leaves. Filter was plugged up again this morning, so another case of DE is needed tonight, since I only have 6lbs left. I hope that the twice-daily backwashing will be done with soon. My son will be doing a FC/CC test...

    Swamp Fever

When I originally filled it two years ago, my water bill was $300 higher than usual for the quarter. I spent $75+tax on DE, and probably $100 on liquid chlorine. I'm not counting the new leaf rake, vacuum, or other supplies I needed anyway. I still have 11 gallons of chlorine left, I'm sure...

So close. Still not clear. Seeing the bottom clearly is a big boost. I've been keeping the SWG on 25%, and set the heater to 86. THe salt testing is weird, as the SWG reports 3.2, but the test reports much lower.
