    PoolMath Question

Seems to be a glitch in the app (@Leebo FYI). It works properly as long as the last value I change is the Target FC. (Android) In any case, I added the right amount. Thanks everyone. P.S. I know that cal-hypo raises CH, but in my experience, using cal-hypo, it takes a couple years to get...

    PoolMath Question

So with a CYA of 60, I wanted to raise my FC from 1 to 8. PoolMath said to add 29oz of cal-hypo 73%. Then just for kicks, I set CYA to zero, and it said for that case, I would only need 9.6oz. Is that right? I understand why you want higher FC when CYA is high, but I wouldn't think it would...

    Is it safe to swim?

I said CYA=65 b/c I had the pool store do a test a week ago, and they reported 60, but there have been pucks in since then, so I estimated 65. I do have the TFP test kit, I just forgot that it has a method to test Cl levels above 5. I'm going to do that now.

    Is it safe to swim?

I saw green in the pool a couple days ago, so I shocked to kill it, and crossed my fingers that by today the Cl would be low enough to swim for people coming over. CYA was 60, so PoolMath said SLAM level is 24. I skimped a little and added CalHypo such that it would get to 20. Now I'm testing...

Are leaves in heater exhaust flue dangerous?

Great point about a cinder. Hadn't thought of that. There's no way to get around there being leaves in the area; my neighbors have big trees and these are small lots. Ultimately, the exit point of flue has to point up, not down or parallel to the ground, right? So unless I rig up a whole bunch...

Are leaves in heater exhaust flue dangerous?

This may be the route I go. If it's heat-resistant and doesn't restrict air flow, then that seems ideal.

Are leaves in heater exhaust flue dangerous?

I have a Jandy JXi400N gas heater for my outdoor, in ground pool. It was installed a few months ago, and just the other day finally got the gas and electric lines hooked up and fired it up. Some leaves had collected in the exhaust flue, and it smelled like they were burning. The installer got...

Just can't get the dead algae out

No, I have not yet bought one of those kits. I got my CYA level from Leslie's. I don't know the sand type, invoice says "Filter grade sand and pea gravel". I've decided to do a professional drain and fill, but I will make sure they do a SLAM.

Just can't get the dead algae out

Yes, I have a muliport valve. When I vacuum, ~10 seconds later I see green clouds from the jets. When I had the cartridge filter, the theory was a crack in the manifold. Now I have a brand new sand filter. I read that sand only goes down to 30 microns, so maybe that's why. If I drain everything...

Just can't get the dead algae out

Hi everyone, thank you so much for replying, and so quickly! Even thought this was my first post, I've actually been on TFP for a while, but maybe now I'm actually going to convert to your way of thinking. My thoughts now: 1) Since I need to drain 50-70% of the pool to get the CYA down, I'm...

Just can't get the dead algae out

After going through Leslie's algae removal procedure 3 times, each time we could not get the dead algae out of the pool, and then it bloomed again. We would see it all there settled on the bottom, but when we vacuumed, it came straight back out through the jets. BTW the Leslie's procedure is: 1)...
