    Black Staining

Thank you very much Kelly! If you look at the first step in the picture, all the way on the right side (i.e. towards the baja shelf) there is a long black line from about the middle of the step towards the spa. I have a couple of these streaks as well as some big rounds spots.

Bringing this to back to the top. 99.9% sure our stains are not organic, but otherwise still not quite sure what these stains are. Results from Leslie for minerals are: 0.1 Iron 0 Copper 93 Phosphates They are recommending their Stain & Scale Remove, but given the $42 a bottle (I would need...

    Black Staining

I did drop 5 crushed up vitamin c tabs in a sock on one of the spots and no change. Also put a Chlorine pick on another spot for a few minutes and nothing. The stains feel like they are in the plaster, i.e I can’t scrape anything off. Should I still slam to make absolutely sure it’s nothing...

    Black Staining

Hello TFP Family, It's been a minute since I last posted, mostly because everything has been going swimmingly (pun intended) since we built the pool in early 2018. No issues at all really until about two weeks ago when I started noticing black marks/streaks showing up. They are most visible on...

    school me on CSI please

Ladies & Gents, Been reading a lot of posts regarding CSI and been "modeling" on the pool math app to see what impact CSI in what way, but still struggle a bit to understand how I can get my CSI number closer to 0. Here are my numbers from last night: FC 4.5 CC 0 pH 7.5 TA 80 CH 225 CYA 60...

And we're off in SE Houston

Re:  And we're off in SE Houston Are you serious??? The tile job sounds horrible and you should def demand a do over, but that last part is just about the height of unprofessional behavior. Time for a serious heart to hear with the owner in my book.

SWG reading vs Taylor salt water test an tips on how to dial it in

Ladies & Gents, Would appreciate your guidance or affirmation that I'm on the right path. Brief history, PB added salt a day earlier than originally planned and I was not there to witness, but was told that 7 bags of salt were added to our 15k gallon pool. SWG is a Hayward T-15 cell. They...

Richmond TX new build; 2 days in and Gunite is already done

Thanks Marty; very good to know that the test can't read below 30; since the vial has a 20 line, I would have assumed it's reliable down to 20. But absolutely, I will increase CYA over the next few weeks (don't want to do it in one big load and potentially overshoot). Going back to my...

Richmond TX new build; 2 days in and Gunite is already done

Understood; so do you call it 20 even if it's much closer to the 30 line? I mostly wanted to show that it increased after my initial adding of stabilizer as it initially was likely below 20 (i.e. the vial was full and could still see dot)

Just a quick update on how things are going. Took the tabs out Tuesday night, but left the inline chlorinator system on to continue water flowing through it. Had the following measurements last night (results from two night ago in parenthesis): FC 1.5 (3) CC 0 (0) CYA 27 (27) PH 8.2 (7.5) TA...

    Cypress TX Pool Builder Recommendations

We just finished building with Grand Isle Pools out of Cypress and could not have been happier with them. John and team were great to deal with, communicated very well and moved quickly despite a lot of rain. You can see their work/progress in my build thread Richmond TX new build; 2 days in...

Day 3 of "self managing" the pool. Added 3 lbs of dry stabilizer last night (hanging sock in front of return) and 6 lbs baking soda at lunch. Got the following results testing the water at dinner time (yesterday's result in parenthesis) FC 3 (4) CC 0 (0) CYA calling it a 27, def closer to 30...

    LED Light Upgrade

We just finished our build and decided midway through to upgrade to color LED (2 pool / 1 spa). Upgrade was I believe $1600 with about $600 credit for the white Halogens originally on the quote, so I guess $ 2200 really. That also included three transformers. So far we are very happy that we...

:D Don't give me any ideas... Retested today after adding the 10% liquid chlorine yesterday and updated results below (with yesterday's in parenthesis) FC 4 (1) CC 0 (0) CYA below 20 (below 20) PH 6.8 etching towards 7 (below 6.8) TA 20 (20) CH 225 (200) I plan on adding the about 3 lbs of...

Thanks again everyone! Dumped 38 oz of 10% liquid chlorine and also bought some dry stabilizer, but am waiting until after my second round of testing tomorrow to see how it goes. Will then also see how the pH is developing. Since it was way off the charts just the day before, I'm thinking it...

Thank you very much Jim; makes a lot of sense. I'll focus on the FC and CYA and leave the rest as is. Will of course retest frequently at this stage. Thanks again!

Richmond TX new build; 2 days in and Gunite is already done

Ladies & Gents, Yesterday was a big day as we had pool school and I also finally got my TF-100 (post office delivered to the wrong address at first). So I did a quick PH and FC test (from the little blue box) before pool school and not too much of a surprise that the levels were not great...

Very nice design! Best of luck with the build, hope it goes as smooth as ours just did. BTW; the spray on the yard looks like an upside down happy ghost :D

BRUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! Sorry, could not help myself, huge Springsteen fan here. While I agree that bigger in your case is likely better, probably also worth considering how many people you think will be using the pool and how, as well as what other activities...
