MYSTERY MEAT OF THE MONTH - CHEMICAL SLEUTHING:
Was that the mystery meat of the month that needsajet posted there?
Looked pretty tasty to me though.
Those folks from Down Under know how to BBQ too!!!!! Almost (but not quite) as well as we folks in Texas!
I think that we really do have a...
It was called Instant Conditioner and it is touted as being “a salt, not an acid”. It says that it works instantly to stabilize chlorine - protect it from UV rays.
So ,,,,,,,, What do you Chemical whiz kids think???
Yes, I am running my pump 24/7 right now.
I am curious, if someone did add a non-CYA chlorine stabilizer, how would you know how much was in the pool at any given point? How can anyone test for such. Glad I avoided it.
POOL STORE BORDERS ON USELESS!
CHANGE OF PLANS - GOING WITH SOLID CYA:
When I went to get the CYA, I asked for stabilizer and the guy handed me the liquid and I asked "This is CYA, right?" and he said "um hm".
So I thought I had a gallon of liquid CYA and that is what I intended to put in...
THANKS ON THE CYA ADVICE:
I am going to use the liquid but in accordance with Marty's instructions. You just saved me from a pool stain and once again I am in your debt.
:lovetfp:
Actually I changed my mind - see the next post for why.
ADDING CYA - Can I Save a Sock?
Liquid vs. solid?
I was able to obtain some CYA but it is in liquid rather than solid form. So my wife’s cat sock may be spared. But is liquid OK to use and, if so, is there any special procedure for introducing it into the pool? If not, I will go with...

S L O W Chlorine Build Up - And A Question
In the morning of January 29th. one of the crew added 4 Tri-Chlor Tabs to the Pentair inline chlorinator.
I have run the pump almost 24/7 since then but at varying speeds.
Chlorinator has been set at Max most of the time since then.
I have only used...
Oh my bad, I posted my TA where my CH should have been and vice-versa. My TA is still high.
I will go back and fix the post. Sorry.
pH = 6.8
CH = 325
TA = 240
My test kit for TA says to use 25 ml of water
Then add 2 Drops of R-0007 and mix (I use the automatic stirring device)
Then add 5...
Chemicals Round Two: Phunky Ph Phindings
This morning my numbers were:
TA -325 (error) actually it was 240 - corrected now
pH - 7.2
CH -240 (error) actually it was 325 - corrected now
So my PB's guy came again about 2 p.m. and added another gallon of muriatic acid - but no other...
Sadly I did not look at the water meter - which would have been the perfectly sensible thing to (:hammer:) but NOOOOO I was too preoccupied with hoses and watching the water rise.
Being a day late and a few brain cells short, instead I took my pool plan and imported it into Sketchup then...
CHEMICALS ROUND 1: "But They Gave Me The Super Blues"
Just around midnight last evening the water level in the pool hit the mid point on the skimmers!
:sunny: WE HAVE A FILLED POOL! :sunny:
First thing this morning I tested the water - with NOTHING it.
These were my numbers:
CH - 275
PH -...
Plaster went in yesterday so Magic was "grounded" all day yesterday.
She didn't get to go out today until water was already going into the pool
and the paster seemed very hard after the completion of the acid wash.
(I touched it in one place and it felt very hard a little after the noon hour)...
STARTING NUMBERS:
OK - I got out my new TF-100 test kit and ran a few tests on the water coming out of the hose into the deep end.
I saw no need to run chlorine tests or CYA tests, but I thought I would check calcium hardness, total alkalinity, and PH. This is what my testing showed for...
GETTING OUR FILL:
The crew came out this morning and installed the covers on the main drain pipes, installed the lights, and acid washed the pool.
We then took 2 garden hoses, tied a cloth around the end of each and dropped them into the deep end of the pool next to each of the main drain...
GETTING TOTALLY PLASTERED!!!
After days of rain and freezing temps, the weather was actually nice and so we really got plastered!
In this case it was Stonescapes Aqua Blue that was our substance of choice.
Also the rope anchors were installed. We wanted a rope because we have a 3 year old...
