May be a dumb question. why to add all these chemical when closing? we need to slam anyway after opening. In spite of slamming last fall it was deep green when I opened. I am planning to maintain PH and close . Any thoughts?

Just checked Cl and it staying 15 fc after 30 min. My CYA is registering very low or below 20 .Need to raise it so sunlight don't remove Cl. Hence add solid cl product. I used liquid Cl before that.

It was 15 fc after addition of liquid chlorine and its 0 by next day evening.

I checked for CYA while slamming was in progress . It was 55-60 last year. Filled to the top and I can still see the black dot clearly . So kind of showing that it is way below 20 Pool was filled to the brim when I opened this year. Had drained 0.5 feet below skimmer before closing lasy year...

Draining the pool(diluting) is the only way as I learned from experts last year.

I had backwashed same day as I noticed pressure going up by to from 19-26 psi. With skimmer closed psi used to be 15 ppm. But now it is 19 psi. With skimmer opened psi used to be 19 psi . Now it is 21 Wondering why this discrepancies with addition of DE . Its should have gone up...

The PSI went up by 1 only after adding around 14 cups(8oz) of DE. I guess its too much. After 15 min I see PSI going by 2.5 psi. Is this too much? Do I need to backwash?

Have read about DE and that its carcinogenic. Wondering if its safe, https://www.amazon.com/Diatomaceous-Earth-Food-Grade-10/dp/B00025H2PY I also read that you loose it when u backwash. It rained pretty heavy in my area . Lot of debris in pool. I am sure FC is way low now.

Is that possible with just slamming. I have sand filter. Do I need to add clarifier? . Hoping to use pool on the weekend..:)

Thanks What order do check for these criteria? First get CC lower and then do OCLT ? Pool is bluish now but is cloudy . cannot see bottom yet.

Thanks for the pointer. I did 5 ml test yesterday and it showed FC @18ppm. Added another gallon of LC.

Thanks guys. Only question is how to measure 5 ml with test kit... Water looks god but is not clear. Do I need to continue slamming until water is crystal clear? Is it early to do OCLT?

Drained around 3 ft and refilled the water . CYA reading stands around 80-90 now. So drained another 3 ft and is refilling now again. Expect it be in the range of 40-50. Pool math says that I need around 4 gallons for liquid Cl(10%) . I have stocked up 12 gallons. This is the my first time...

Thanks a lot .. My shallow end is 3 ft and deep end is 8 ft. Is it safe to drain till 2 ft for a pool with vinyl liner? Read somewhere in this forum not to drain more than a foot at a time.
