There is no way these numbers can be right!

ok, 17.5 now. which likely means my test kit and bleach are not at fault. Based on the nature of the CYA test I ran another and got 45, so that would require a shock FC of 18 which could explain why I lost so much FC in 1 day since I had jacked it up to 24 or 25.

There is no way these numbers can be right!

Thanks, I'll test again later. I guess adding chlorine during the day isn't optimal but I'm frustrated and want to get this resolved NOW :). This pool has been FAR worse than owning any boat or plane, nothing but trouble and money with almost no enjoyment as payoff. I pretty much hate my pool...

There is no way these numbers can be right!

I guess a better question would be, is there a way to test the efficacy of my bleach? I just put 2 more bottles in which should've given me a 6 FC rise but I only got a 4 FC rise. It's possible I didn't let it mix fully; however, I tested in the exact area where I added bleach. If anything...

There is no way these numbers can be right!

I don't see how that is possible. I estimate a normal summer month to run me $120, there is no way I can get $200 to stretch all year. Unless you are getting your chlorine for significantly less than I'm paying or your pool is in a hermetically sealed bag with no outside contaminants or...

There is no way these numbers can be right!

You lost me with OCLT. You are correct, I was going through a bottle of bleach per day which felt like too much considering nobody is using the pool. In the event there was some lurking presence I decided to make one swift killing of everything. Nothing scientific behind my shock, just an...

There is no way these numbers can be right!

Trying to shock my 30,000 gallon pool. FC was 13 yesterday and CYA is 50, I put 4 121 oz bottles of 10% chlorinating liquid in yesterday, today the level is 12. My TFT-100 is less than a year old. Is it possible my test kit is bad or perhaps I got a bad batch of chlorine? I just can't see my...

Is there a normal bleach consumption?

No thermometer, it's chilly :). Even in the winter when it was near freezing the pool was consuming about a bottle every 2-3 days. The pool water was likely never near freezing but we had a couple sub 32 nights. Thanks. The TF-100 test kit says shoot for 90-110, I probably dumped 50 lbs of...

Is there a normal bleach consumption?

I use a TFT-100 kit, just added it to my .sig as you suggested. The water is blue and clear, although I wouldn't call it crystal clear -- there is so much pollen in the pool there is some slight cloudiness that I don't think can be helped. I'm running the main pump 8 hours/day and the vacuum...

Dead Chipmunk in pool over winter

That's it? In the past 6 months I've fished out 1 possum, a couple squirrels, at least a dozen moles/mice/chipmunks, uncounted frogs, toads, and salamander type thingies, as well as a few snakes. Maybe I should put a cover on it next year :).

Is there a normal bleach consumption?

This is my 1st pool and I've been maintaining it myself, this summer will be my 3rd season of maintaining the pool. 1st year no issues, 2nd year turned green and couldn't get rid of it until I learned about this site and determined that 150 stabilizer level was my culprit. After a couple 50%...

    Polaris owners read!

Thanks for this post. I've got a 3900 that had been acting really sluggish, basically it would find a corner and chill for 3-4 hours. 8 new bearings and it's as energetic as new. Took longer to go to the pool store and drive back than the repair itself.

How important is hardness in a vinyl lined pool?

My CH reading was only 50, the laminated instruction sheet on the test kit says 250-400 is normal. Considering I have no masonry directly touching the pool at any point, is this something I need to worry about or can I leave the water nice and soft? As I mentioned the walls and bottom of the...

Is my pump motor power supply 1 or 2 phase?

This was the recommended kit: Amazon.com: Hayward 6060HKIT Hose Replacement Kit for Hayward Booster Pump: Garden Outdoor The flanged end is forced into the flexible tube leaving a female threaded end to connect to my existing PVC. I purchased a male threaded/female 3/4" coupler to match up...

Is my pump motor power supply 1 or 2 phase?

update: both pumps replaced without too much headache. I went with flexible 3/4" hose on the booster pump as recommended by Heyward, and it appears the 3/4" pvc I originally had installed is a mm smaller than 3/4", or the adapter I purchased to mate the flexible with the existing pvc is a mm...

Is my pump motor power supply 1 or 2 phase?

I appreciate all the responses, I am confident there are no wiring or electrical problems with my last pump motor, just a leak which trashed the motor. BTW, my boost pump is wired as you stated -- if the main pump is not on the boost pump won't run either.

    DIY when my liner fails?

Is pool liner replacement something I can do myself, with no experience? I've had my sand filter and a couple pumps die this year and I've been shocked at the prices the pool company quoted to repair each of these items. I ended up doing the filter myself and am in the process of replacing my...

Is my pump motor power supply 1 or 2 phase?

I'm not sure how it would run dry without my knowledge. I never run the motor with any of the covers removed nor do I change the position of the sand filter's handle while the pump is running. Whenever I clean the basket the water level drops a couple inches, but it refills within 5-10 seconds...

Is my pump motor power supply 1 or 2 phase?

Just the motor was replaced, I purchased the home in 2015, the pool was already there and have no idea how old the pump is. I have ordered a new motor/pump combination from Amazon, they had a pump identical to the one I already have so it looks like it will be a very simple job. Also on the...

Is my pump motor power supply 1 or 2 phase?

Thanks. My guess is 230 would also explain why I have a double circuit breaker instead of a single. There are no other wires going into the motor other than the external ground which is a pretty heavy gauge.

Is my pump motor power supply 1 or 2 phase?

If it helps, here is a picture of the main motor wiring. I don't really know much about being an electrician, but would this be 2 hot and 1 neutral? The case has an external ground wire. No idea why this picture is right side up and the last one was rotated :).

Is my pump motor power supply 1 or 2 phase?

Thanks! I called the installer and they have mysteriously not called me back... They wanted $155 to just come out and look at my set-up which is perfectly understandable considering they're all of 7 miles away and probably pay their guys $10/hour. I told them no, you replaced it, I can tell...

Is my pump motor power supply 1 or 2 phase?

thanks! There is a pretty good leak where the motor and pump are attached. I took it apart, inspected and lubricated the gasket with no luck. The pump is making an atrociously loud noise but is still pumping. It has never been run dry. BTW, thanks for the comprehensive answer. I plan to...

Is my pump motor power supply 1 or 2 phase?

I have a 1.5 HP main pump which was replaced 19 months ago and it is already failing. The pump is labeled for 1 phase power but there are two switches on the breaker panel to control the pump. Is it possible I have 2p power and they installed a 1p motor, or would that have fried instantly and...

Pump about to die, freezing temperatures!

Thanks! I had forgotten about the pump drain. When I go to replace my motors, is that a fairly easy remove/replace? I need to replace my auxiliary pump as well, that one died when the vacuum hose got clogged with sand after my sand filter failed. Been one heck of a fall!

Pump about to die, freezing temperatures!

My main pool pump motor started getting louder about a month ago and I didn't think much of it. It has progressively been getting worse and tonight it sounds so bad it made me think it might explode so I had to turn it off. Well, of course this is the coldest night of the year and temps are...

    Pool return shooting out sand?

I had this problem a couple months ago. I had a bad stand pipe inside the sand filter which was allowing sand into the pool. The unfortunate side effect of this was it clogged my pool's auto vacuum and destroyed the pump. If you've got a lot of sand going into the pool you need to fix the...

All levels normal, pool still dark green

Already done and strongly considering doing it myself. The entire process looks simple on youtube when it was done right in the 1st place, but of course mine wasn't. Previous owner didn't use unions so I'm going to have to cut. The filter has plumbing coming off 2 of the 3 ports that have 90...

All levels normal, pool still dark green

Our Heyward sand filter is on the fritz, been pumping about a pound of sand per day into the pool for the past couple of days. My internet research led me to believe that I've got a cracked pipe inside the unit and after calling the local pool store he agreed that's likely the case. We were...
