Follow directions or bad things happen

I'm getting a pumice stone tomorrow. Thanks for the help.

Follow directions or bad things happen

Thanks for all of your replies. I added 55 lbs of Duda boric acid. I bought it a year ago and finally added it after a partial drain. Also added stabilizer but I just leave it in a sock in the skimmer for a couple days. I do add a lot of acid but only 20-30 ounces at a time in front of deep end...

Follow directions or bad things happen

I have always added stabilizer for CYA in a sock in the skimmer. I also sprinkled the boric acid around the pool. I don't think the plaster changed color overnight. My wife said a couple days after "What the heck is going on with the pool." I thought it was mottling but it's too much of a...

Follow directions or bad things happen

This is what my pool looks like now. It was re-plastered in 2018. Just wanted to say read the directions and follow them for anything you add to your pool. This is no doubt one of my biggest screw-ups. I added 55 lbs. of boric acid to try to slow down the pH rise. (it didn’t) I brushed once and...

Pool mottling 4 years after re-plaster

That would be great if it became even a little uniform in time. So it's possible that the white sections in the pool now could be a thin layer of calcium over the original gray? If I rubbed it with a pumice stone I might see gray plaster? Thanks again for all your responses, I'll try not to ask...

Pool mottling 4 years after re-plaster

Thanks. I'm still trying to get a decent picture to show how the whole pool is blotched. In the attached picture the white plaster color on the left gets narrower and goes the length of the pool. There's a jet in the shallow end right below the rock that points in that direction. As you can see...

Pool mottling 4 years after re-plaster

Thanks for your input. I do appreciate it. Now we think the gray plaster turned white. (evidently we don't know what are pool looked like; old age memory?) The spa is a uniform gray and all the sides of the pool are too. I threw the boric acid in walking around the pool and I don't think I ran...

Pool mottling 4 years after re-plaster

Hi, I swear my pool didn't look like this 2 months ago. My wife agrees. Looks like mottling to me. Re-plastered 4 years ago. Partial drain 2 months ago to lower calcium. Added 55 lb boric acid 6 weeks ago to try to slow pH rise. I always try to keep CSI between -.2 and .2. Add chlorine and acid...

Pool mottling 4 years after re-plaster

I always keep my CSI stable and add liquid chlorine and acid slowly in front of a jet in deep end. Stabilizer in a sock in skimmer. The boric acid I brushed and ran pool cleaner. I keep my pH around 7.8 because it rises much faster when its any lower. My pH still rises the same even after boric...

Pool mottling 4 years after re-plaster

Hi all, Pool re-plastered in April of 2018. The mottling seems to have taken over in the last month. Is this something that can happen 4 years after re-plaster? I did add 55 lbs. of boric acid 6 weeks ago to try to slow down the pH rise (that’s another post to come) Also some of what I think are...

    HDX Chlorine

Last question. Bought 121 oz jug of style selection bleach at Lowes. Says 6% available chlorine on back label. So do you think this 6% and the wt. is actually higher?

    HDX Chlorine

Thanks again mknauss. I am going to assume that any company selling chlorine/bleach is going to use the largest % number they can in their labeling which would be trade and/or weight.

    HDX Chlorine

Everyones out of liquid chlorine so I'm trying to compare available amount in bleach. Get a little confused with previous posts. Home depot HDX chlorine shows 10% and 90% other ingredients. SDS says 10% by weight. Is this 10% available or less? When I put 10% in pool math it changes...

Salt level in bleach pool surprised me

I bought the Taylor K-1766 salt test kit and it retested at 4000 ppm. So it is the test strips that are inaccurate, just like mknauss said.

Salt level in bleach pool surprised me

Is there something more accurate than the AquaChek strips?

Salt level in bleach pool surprised me

I've added at least 240 gallons of 10% chlorine since I had the pool replastered a little over 3 years ago. If a gallon of chlorine has 17 ppm of salt that would be 4,000 ppm in the pool. Does this sound correct?

Salt level in bleach pool surprised me

I haven't swam in a long time but I will taste it. Tested twice with new AquaChek strips.

Salt level in bleach pool surprised me

First off a big thanks to all the users and contributors to this site. Maybe I’m alone here but I never thought about testing for the salt level in my bleach pool. Always put salt at a 1000 in pool math. I used the strips and it tested between 6000 and 7000. That lowered the CSI over .2 which...

Adding Acid Everyday To Stay Under 8.0 PH. Should TA go Up Or Down?

Pool math is showing .33 for 20 oz unless I'm doing something wrong. If I skip a day now it will drop over .6 I think. I don't run the spillover. Just circulate the spa water to refresh the chemicals. My pool jets break the water tension on high speed which is for about 2 hours a day for...

Adding Acid Everyday To Stay Under 8.0 PH. Should TA go Up Or Down?

I'm adding 20 oz. 31% Muriatic Acid everyday. Plaster is only 2 months old and I realize the PH could rise for a long time but I'd like to try to see if I can stabilize it a little. I bought some Baking Soda at Costco (13.5 lbs for $6.59-good deal compared to other places) to bump it up but...

Air Release Valve Sucks Air When Opened With Pump Running 1500 RPM Or Less

Thanks for responding. The pad for the equipment is about 4' above water level. It looks like it's at 0 psi until I ramp up the rpm's to about 1600 to get the gauge to move. Is it ok to run it at a 1000 rpm's.

Air Release Valve Sucks Air When Opened With Pump Running 1500 RPM Or Less

!st time owner of variable speed pump. Been running it @ 1000 rpm except when chemicals are added or using vac. Just noticed today that when I checked to see if there was any air in the filter it sucked air when opened. Ran rpm's up until water started coming out @15oo rpm. Does anyone know if...

Is staying on the positive side of CSI sufficient for newer plaster

Hi to everyone, I've seen on a few posts to get CSI close to +.6 for new plaster. My plaster is 1 month old. Seems high to me and pool math shows potential to scaling. To even get to +.3 I would have to max out on the goals on pool math. Is just being on the positive side ok for new plaster...
